Jones Would Consider Chopra Move
Monday, 22nd Jul 2013 17:00

Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones says he would consider re-signing Blues striker Michael Chopra. Jones was Chopra’s manager at Cardiff and says he keeps in touch with the 29-year-old frontman, who was made available for transfer by Town at the end of last season despite having a year left on his contract.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, Jones said: “If Chops is available, it’s something that we’d consider.

“I know Chops well and I know he’s had a lot of problems over the last couple of years and I’m sure there would be plenty of questions asked whoever took him.

"But Chops on his day is a quality goalscorer and it’s something that I would have to sit down with the chairman and the player and look at if we were.”

Regarding reported talks with Chopra and the Blues, Jones revealed that the striker is amongst a number of his former players he keeps in regular contact with: “I spoke to him in the summer, we didn’t speak about signing or whatever. He phones me up now and again to see how my family are, I’ll do the same with him.

“That’s just a conversation, if that then leads on to people saying we’re after him or whatever, I can’t do anything about that.”

Meanwhile, Chopra is reported to have held talks with Barnsley today, the Tykes also having been linked with a move for the former England U21 international over the weekend.

Dear Dave Jones,

While Michael has been here he has been a model professional.

A real 100% who gives everything. His scoring record of about 17 goals in 70 games or whatever it is is badly scewed by the lack of chances we created.

His banning from BHA was down to their fans over reacting to a silly banner we had and he is a real gent who often engages with the fans via social media.

We would all be devasted to see him leave and hope you don't offer him terms. It'd be a real shame.

KuqiCoup.

PS. I am driving to Sheffield this week and will happily bring the lovely Mr Chopra, free of charge for his fine service to the football club.

Just watch Chopra sign for someone else and do a Scotland and start scoring again.

The man has had massive addition problems which have totally affected his life and therefore his performance on and off the field.
I hope he gets a new fresh start that does not cost ITFC too much to facilitate. Like others have said, I am proud that we have tried to help the guy, and as disappointed as any that it has not worked out positively. Hope he does well wherever he moves to, but not when they play us ... that said, our defence will keep him in their pocket just like any other forward line we face next year.

We can afford to be gracious, can't we?

I seem to remember Dave Jones quoting Chopra as high maintenance after he came to us from Cardiff, so I very much doubt he will be stupid enough to take him on again!

Go on Chopra do one you waste of skin, see if Wednesday will prevent you getting two broken legs the next time ,you wont find another club that will stick by you like we did and you had the stupidity to fall out with the fans off with you ,next time we see you will be rolling in the gates of the sporting chance saying how its everyone else s fault

RaymondovicBlue, due to his money problems "addition" is apt too

Let's hope the rumours are true and he is on his way. It would be good to have a side concentrating on matters on the pitch instead of off it.

Mr Jones he'll score you 30+ this coming season, just ask him - he'll look a real dynamo in the pre-season and won't need to go to rehab in the USA to get over his gambling addiction as he's now 'clean'. Go for it Mr Jones.
