Tunnicliffe at Town
Friday, 26th Jul 2013 13:31

TWTD understands that Manchester United midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe is at Portman Road today and looks set to complete his loan move to the Blues this afternoon. Yesterday, we revealed that Town were the frontrunners for the 20-year-old, who will become Mick McCarthy’s 10th signing of the summer.

Tunnicliffe, who reports elsewhere say will sign until January, is likely to be involved in a strong Town squad in the final friendly of pre-season at Notts County on Saturday (KO 3pm).

Brighton were amongst a number of other Championship clubs who were also believed to be eyeing the England U16 and U17 international, who spent time on loan at Peterborough United during 2011/12 and at Barnsley last season.

Heywood-born Tunnicliffe plays in central midfield, an area where the Blues would still appear to require cover. Speaking on Tuesday, Mick McCarthy said he was looking to add only one more player to his squad ahead of the start of the season at Reading a week on Saturday.

Tunnicliffe has made two sub appearances in the Capital One Cup for the Red Devils, in addition to 15 senior starts and 18 games from the bench for his loan sides.

In April, Blues boss McCarthy confirmed that he would utilise the loan market to augment his squad.

Tunnicliffe played for United’s reserves in their 1-0 friendly victory over Club Brugge last week, a game which was watched by the Town manager.

Elsewhere, the Blues are reported to be the probable destination for ex-loanee Guirane N’Daw, however, that seems unlikely with Tunnicliffe, who plays a similar role, set to sign and with McCarthy having said he was after only after one more player and playing down his interest in the Sengalese international earlier in the week.

The Daily Mirror did report this chap as being free to leave Old Trafford... Still, a loan move would seem a good start - maybe with a view to something longer if he performs okay?

Yup, try before you buy I reckon. Nothing to lose, cheap outlay for the loan period, "I'll have him" if he does well otherwise nothing lost. Well done Mick.

Was he at Barnsley at 12/13, the report says 12/11 so just checking.

Sounds like a decent player to have whether it was until january or for the season.

Maybe Mick was only referring to Permanent signings when he said "just one more", and loans could be extra?

Wait so does this mean cole skuse is seriously injured ? Because he got injured at ? I can't remember it was in the friendly matches I think it was Barnett so does this mean he is just a replacement for skuse in the mean time ? as he is injured

I reckon this could be with a view to a permanent deal. Usually at United if you're 20 years old and don't have a sniff of the first team, even in cup games, then it's highly unlikely you'll end breaking through there. I would still like to see us sign another proven goalscorer before the start of the season, just not sure if Nouble or Murphy are prolific enough to bag us 10/15 goals a season.

Just saw this on Sky Sports news, yes we actually got a mention!! But good luck to Tunnicliffe if we are looking to secure him for longer after his loan spell. Midfielders often do the most work, so as many options are welcome.

ITFCOYB the reports in Manchester are he's free to go out on loan, but they have high hopes for this guy at old trafford.
The Daily Mirror could just be picking up on the "Free " bit

Also i think the link with N'Daw will be whether or not he goes to prison or not.

Just on another subject concerning signings, I have tried my best to watch every Look East report; to see if any of MM's signings got a mention. If we have had a mention then it was so small I missed it. Scum have just signed Gary Hooper from Celtic. lets just see what they broadcast tonight shall we?

Let's hope so Len Brennnan. One more forward would help.

On average 6/1 for Town to get promoted - 20/1 to win the Championship (not hugely good odds but that says it all about our league). QPR are the favourites but I won't be putting a punt on them.
