Cresswell's Agents Unaware of Palace Bid
Tuesday, 20th Aug 2013 16:47

Aaron Cresswell’s representatives have said they aren’t aware of Crystal Palace having had a £3 million offer for the left-back turned down by the Blues. According to widespread reports, the Eagles had made a move for the 23-year-old, apparently prior to adding former Bordeaux left-back Florian Marange to their squad.

A spokesman for his representatives SEM told Sky Sports that they know nothing of a Palace offer but revealed that Aston Villa, who it was known had made enquiries regarding the former Tranmere man, had bids rebuffed a year ago: "Aaron has made substantial and continued progress since signing for Ipswich Town and is possibly the best left-back in the Championship.

"Ipswich turned down substantial offers from Aston Villa last summer and they obviously rate him very highly.

“Aaron is very ambitious and of course wants to play in the Premier League. It would be great for him to achieve that with Ipswich Town as he is happy playing there. If not, then every player has his price and at some point he will move on."

In addition to Palace and Villa, Southampton, Fulham, Blackburn and Wigan have all been mentioned in connection with the Liverpudian this summer.

No need for them to comment really. Doesn't it make you hate agents (sorry, his 'representatives' and their 'spokespeople') when they come a mouthpiece for all the thoughts and concerns of a player? Cressy could do with some better company imo.

Time to offer Cresswell an extended contract.

I have no doubt he will move on at some point, if we cannot get back to the Premiership, so we may as well work toward the best deal possible. The longer he is contracted to us the more we have to bargain with.

I wouldn't have an agent, as I can speak for myself, bloodsucking idiots are the ruination of football!!!

Agents comment translates as " being the bloodsucking leeches we are, we feel betrayed to not have been able to hype our client and prostitute ourselves for the largest percentage possible"
Sooner these scumbags are forced out of football the better.

I really think we shouldnt entertain any bids for Cresswell. He is clearly one of our best players and one we should build a team around, together with our other younger players currently in the team/squad.

I appreciate what others have said elsewhere regarding the fact when we sold Dyer we bought players that gained us promotion. That is undeniable. But i honestly think Cresswell is different. Why? Because a settled defence is crucial and any disruptions to that can easily send things crashing down.

A solid defence is by no means negative. Every team needs one in order to be successful. Our current four of Hewitt, Smith, Chambers and Cresswell should be our cornerstone for a number of years yet!

I think we are getting closer to be a very competitive team in this league. Keeping our best players is paramount to this continuing...

Keep Creswell. Simples.

Take nothing below £5m and if we do get that then buy 3 or 4 very good players with it.

Haven't Tranmere got something like a 25% sell on clause on any profit made, so if we were to sell him we'd have to factor that in. If we got £5m for him, we'd only be getting about £3.8m of that. Is it worth selling him for that? Could we replace him with someone of equal promise or ability without disrupting the team for that? Or put faith in the likes of Mings or October and pocket the money for Evans to recoup some more money from the Keane/Jewell era.

Shut ur cake hole agents!! The only reason they are gobbing off is to keep him in the spotlight in the hope someone else makes an offer for him and they might make a few bob from the sale.
They are right up there with traffic wardens, bailiffs, speed cameras and jobsworth traffic cops.

Think the clubs need to agree a fee first before agents get to hear about these things??

I may be wrong, but I would imagine that if there is a serious bid the player should be informed even if it isn't being entertained rather than risk that he hear of it somewhere else. Also that way there can be some dialogue as to whether the club have a certain valuation or are not interested in selling etc. and the player himself can be clear on where he and the club stand. It is then up to the player whether he passes that information on to his agents. I am sure many of them would encourage the player to but the more astute players should be aware the agents' interests are not always the same as their own.

We need to be realistic. Cressy wants to achieve promotion with Town in the next 2 years (as he has said). But beyond that he would rather be playing Premiership football than Championship football with Town however much he loves the club. We cannot realistically say under no circumstances should he be allowed to leave in this day and age. If we do not achieve Premiership football in 2 years, he is likely to leave. Therefore any offers will have to be considered and the nearer it gets to the end of his contract, the more seriously offers will have to be considered - to avoid a Bosman. That is modern football, sad as it is.

I think Cressy's a switched on young man who knows that playing first team football with us and hopefully gaining rave reviews along the way, is better than doing a Wickham and leaving too early and sitting on the bench.

He is enjoying his football and has settled in the area so I don't see him wanting to leave. Would be a good idea to extend his deal beyond next 2 years though.
