McDermott Rules Himself Out
Thursday, 12th Sep 2013 11:41

Leeds boss Brian McDermott has ruled himself out of the running for the Republic of Ireland manager’s job.

McDermott, whose parents are Irish, said he would like the role one day but not yet: “I feel I have been kind of adopted here at Leeds and I owe these supporters.

“The Ireland job is for the future for me. I owe this club and the supporters. I am 100% committed."

McDermott had been viewed as one of the frontrunners to succeed Giovanni Trapattoni, who left his job by mutual consent yesterday, along with with Martin O’Neill, Blues boss Mick McCarthy, former Town manager Roy Keane and Norwich's Chris Hughton.

McCarthy is due to hold his regular pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

Thanks for saving us, but to be honest, it might be better you take the job now Mick

it's clear your rigid 4-4-2 isn't working, I'm happy to bring in someone younger who knows football in it's current state.

Hope McCarthy does the same tomorrow and rules himself out of the role, but I suspect he will keep his options open and basically not commit himself either way

Would be gutted if mick leaves. Results will easily start coming, it's not as if we played bad at Birmingham.

It will all be wrapped up before tomorrows press conference.

I wonder if Mick would be sneaky enough to use this as an opportunity to say to Evans: "if I stay, can I have some funds to spend in January?"

If he says 'I'm just focusing on Saturday's game.' That usually means he'd want the job, the only way i'd think he doesn't is if he says exactly what Brian McDermott has. Either way, I don't think McCarthy will get the job anyway.

I'd love Mick to stay with us & finish the job of turning us around. Target promotion is still there to be shot at surely. Though if the IFA want him & he wants to go back, which is always a no,no then so be it! I don't want us to become like so many clubs & go through managers like no tomorrow though. We'll have to wait & see what Mick wants most. If he stays or takes Ireland job again, either way more money is needed in the transfer market. Get your wallet out Evans & at least buy us a striker that can score goals for a kick off! Come on Mick, what's your answer!

We've provided England with two managers in the past. Why not groom someone for Ireland?

As long as it's Roy Keane of course!!

Reference for Roy Keane

Dear Mr Delaney.

Re - Roy Keane

In 2009 the above named became manager
of Ipswich Town FC.

He took no time in settling in to the club
and Immidately won over both the players
and Supporters with his vast knowledge of
professional football.

It wasn't long before the club was riding high
in the leauge and that Roy had weeded out
the dead wood in the club like Jordan Rhodes
and David Wright.

Friendly and always keen to listen We
Would have no hesitation in recommending
Him for the vacant Irish post .

Yours

ITFC

Best manager we've had since Royle - good results are imminent. If you're happy for him to leave you're a moron.

I am sorry to say that I think this all depends on O'Neil. If he turns it down then C'est la vie.......

Why would anyone be open to losing our best manager in years and years?

As I intimated in a blog some months back Mick McCarthy is very likely to take the Irish post. He has already implied before the vacancy became available that he would "love another crack at it." Now is his chance and if he gets the nod it is good bye Ipswich Town. I was ridiculed for suggesting as much at the time I recall.

I quite agree that the club and mick need make no comment at all.
How ever, I think most fans would like some indication as to the club and micks intentions?
Still who gives a f**k about the fans.

Would be sad to see Mick go. Agree with other comments that he is the best we have had since Royle. We were unlucky to only draw at Birmingham after dominating for 60 minutes, but we failed to take our chances. McGoldrick was excellent but needs a good partner up front, but Nouble or Murphy don't do it for me.

I'm finding the silence deafening from McCarthy!

It would be disastrous if he left in my view, a real setback.

Let's hope tomorrow he rules himself out, but something tells me he won't, really hope I'm wrong though.

However I also wonder how high on the list he is, it may be they have bigger fish to fry.

Although would be gutted if mick leaves, the reality is he wasn't backed in the summer. ME really needs to wake up - most expensive football at this level, but just £20k spent all summer. Evans is taking the, erm mick out of us.

There is some rubbish put on this site.
Perhaps we could have a prize of a big wooden spoon for the biggest stirrers.
When did giving someone their old job back ever work.

Personally feel it will be between Mick and Martin O'Neill, I'd be surprised if Mick comes out and says along the same sort of lines as what Brian McDermott has said about Leeds.

A big "Martin O'Neill 4 Ireland!" banner is what we need for Saturday.
