Town Fans Championship's Best Behaved
Wednesday, 9th Oct 2013 18:48

Town were the Championship club to have the fewest fans arrested during 2012/13, according to figures released by the Home Office.

While no Blues supporters were arrested at Portman Road, four were detained at matches away from home, two for alcohol offences, one for public disorder and one for violent disorder. One Town fan was handed a banning order.

In the same report for the previous year, 2011/12, there were two Blues supporters arrested at Portman Road and none away, again the lowest total in the division.

Club spokesman Steve Pearce welcomed this year’s figures: “Ipswich Town fans have a long-standing reputation as being among the best in the game and this is further evidence of that.

“Portman Road is regarded as one of the safest grounds in the country to watch football and the supporters should take great credit for that.”

Ipswich Town - 4 arrests.

Next on the list: Leeds United - 101

There's rarely reputation without reason.

Nice to see us get some positive news. Think Marcus Evans should cut the prices by 50% and get more well behaved supporters to come!

It's because our football is so boring it sends everybody withing the ground and surrounding area to sleep. That and the yobbo's can't afford to watch us because the prices are so damn high.

Do we get promoted then?

they should start a fifa fair watch award - and the winning team could play in UEFA cup. We'd be in Europe every season. sorted. Something to be proud of though. I wonder if those numbers will change once Norwich are relegated this season...

Jokes aside, I've lived and watched football all over the world, and this makes me SOOO proud. Never been happier than when I've been surrounded by Town fans, particularly away.

First we have the best pies, now the best behaved fans..........all we need now to complete the set is the best team on the pitch!
Well I can dream can't I?
Seriously though, this is very pleasing.

Well done Colchester, only one arrest in the whole season. I think the move from Layer Rd has softened them.

Never mind the fans - i want the team to do some damage to the opposition's goal difference.

So were we the only club in the league that year with more arrests among the players than the fans?

SE1blue added 21:27 - Oct 9
It's not just the players...even the hooligans don't turn up for the 90 minutes.

The biggest surprise for me was Nuneaton - 87 arrests for violent disorder! I'm assuming this was either one big incident that got completely out of hand, or else they have got a hardcore that cause trouble at most games... Anybody know the story?

was there any doubt we are the best behaved? We are the best ''full stop!''

CertainIberianlady - fantastic observation!

To show pride in our title of nicest fans may I suggest a new chant of

'Come and have a go if you think you're soft enough!'

Nocanariesallowed you mention Leeds are top with 101 arrests but to look at the stats you could argue that Bolton are the worst offenders with 52% of there 46 arrests being for violent behaviour compared to only 9 percent of Leeds 101 arrests being for violent disorder.

Sxblue - it was one incident early this year. I can't remember who against but there was loads of trouble in the town centre and a pub got trashed.

Not surprised with this. Most of our clown fans prefer taking out their excitement on message boards ;-)
