Marriott Enjoying Training With First Team
Thursday, 24th Oct 2013 06:00

Boss Mick McCarthy says young striker Jack Marriott is enjoying training with the first team. The 19—year-old, who scored for the U21s in their 1-1 draw with Bristol City on Monday, has regularly been on the bench since Paul Taylor rejoined Peterborough on loan but is yet to add to his debut as a sub at Burnley on the final day of last season.

“He’s enjoying it,” McCarthy said. “He trained with [the first team] today and scored a good goal. He has the happy knack of putting the ball in the net. He’s loving training with the first team.”

With Taylor due to be away for the next two Town games, the academy product will be hoping to have further involvement at Bolton on Saturday or in the live Sky game against Barnsley at Portman Road next Friday.

Also spending time with the senior squad is 18-year-old winger Jordan Adekunle, although McCarthy says the former Crawley youngster isn't yet ready for match involvement: “Jordan has trained with the first team quite a lot and he doesn’t look out of place. He’s definitely got something. He’s not ready for the first team, but he’s got something.”

The Blues boss, who spent yesterday winning the Town staff and players competition at the club's golf day at Ufford Park, says 19-year-old winger Jack Doherty, who was signed for £20,000 from Waterford United in Ireland in the summer, has had a more difficult start to his Town career: “Jack’s had a lot of injuries unfortunately, which has hampered him.

“I think he’s felt it being away from home as well, so he’s not really progressed at all. He needs to get himself fully fit and we’ll see.”

This was an ideal time to give him some time on the pitch instead of sitting on the bench , I do not agree at all with putting Nouble on ahead of him , he could well turn out to be the ideal strike partner for McGoldrick. We won't know unless he is given the chance

I love our fans who know so much more about team selection than a very experienced manager!

bluelady-it seems MM knows little about team selection, substitutions etc despite his experience which quite honestly baffles me how he got it

Oh well Hegan if that's the case let him to to Ireland and good ridence!!

I'm not saying I wouldn't like to see Jack given a run, but I'm sure it will happen - his is regularly in the squad now and getting on the bench so his time is quietly clearly imminent.

Blue lady I'd agree with you IF Nouble was not being brought on instead of Marriott

Useless player

MM must see something more from Nouble in training, than I, and most other supporters have seen when he's been playing. Give Marriott some more game time please Mick. One thing we really need is a natural goalscorer

I see something in Nouble still think he'll Come good, I know I'm going to get slated for this, if he can go out on loan when Taylor gets back from Peterborough i think it will do him the world of good. I agree with blue lady, marriott needs to be nurtured and mick will know what's best for him, he has developed talent before, he knows what it takes.

You're so football savvy Hegansheroes. Maybe you could re-vamp a squad, save us from relegation and steer us to mid-table safety in under a year for £175,000 too one day! But in the mean time, back to FIFA on your play station, Sky Sports and the tabloids for you!

Why bring on Nouble when the scores are level or Town one down with 20 minutes to go when on the bench is a young player who "has the happy knack of putting the ball in the net"?

I have always been the best manager in the stands, Jack Marriott should be given his chance if only in the last 15 minutes he has to get real pitch time. Now back to the day job!!

I think he should be given a chance for the last 20 minutes in one of these games. Nouble has provided very little and doesn't look a goal threat at all. It can do more damage than good playing him too young (Dean Bowditch) but i can't see much harm in gradually blending him in and giving him a chance.

You have to play Nouble in my opinion. He has a strike rate of 1 in 10 at the moment and therefore should be due a goal any day!

Looking at the broader picture it could damage the player but he should be given a chance and eased in so sitting on the bench for a few weeks getting the match day experience will only help.
On a separate how can you fools say Good Riddance to McCarthy he saved a team destined for relegation and finished mid table with virtually no money to spend if Mick had the budget Keane or Jewell had we'd be in a fantastic position. Jump from behind your keyboards and come to few games watch the football then comment because most of the people bemoaning mick haven't seen the great transformation.

Nouble might have peaked already at the tender age of 22 - so that 1 in 10 stat might be useless. Give Jack a chance, I bet he's gagging to get on.
