Marriott Hits Hat-Trick And Signs New Deal
Saturday, 7th Dec 2013 22:28

On-loan Town striker Jack Marriott hit a hat-trick for Woking as the Cards beat Halifax Town 4-3 in the Skrill Premier. Marriott, whose spell at the Kingfield Stadium has been extended until January 2nd, has now scored seven goals in five games.

Marriott, who netted in the ninth, 13th and 73rd minutes, tweeted after the game: “Great result at a difficult place to come, always nice to get a hat-trick as well!

Asked about the 19-year-old’s hat-trick after Town’s victory over Huddersfield, boss Mick McCarthy said: “Great. A young kid said to me today when I was signing his autograph ‘When are you going to play Jack Marriott?’. I said when I pick him. I’m delighted, he’s doing well.”

The former academy striker, who you can hear talking about his hat-trick in more depth here, was recently offered new terms with his current deal up at the end of the season and in his post-match Radio Suffolk interview McCarthy confirmed that he had put pen to paper: “He’s signed his new contract.”

The Blues boss, who insisted on including a 24-hour recall when the loan was extended earlier in the week, will catch Marriott in action on Tuesday when the Cards face Kidderminster at home.

Elsewhere, David October played the full 90 minutes for his loan club Histon as they lost 4-1 at home to Stalybridge Celtic in the Skrill North.

Academy second-year scholar Rory Thompson was in action for his loan club Haverhill Rovers as they beat FC Clacton 4-0 at home in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division.

Great news about the deal, hoping he can break in to the first team one day, although our strikers seem to be doing a good job at the moment.

Also, either i need glasses, or you're missing a close italics after 'Radio Suffolk' Phil...the whole rest of the page looks italic to me!

Horry - dunno, but Andy Kiwomya scored a lot of goals for them in the 90s.

The last Town player to score a hat trick against Halifax was Mick Lambert in the F A cup 3rd round in 1976

Mick Lambert in an F A cup match in the "70,s. I was at that game. ......... Jack Marriott will hopefully get his chance in the 1st team if an injury to our strikers occurs then we will have a better idea of how good he can be, in the meantime, he is certainly taking his opportunity at Woking, so well done for that.

Some have commented about the fact that Jack is 19 and hasn't broke through into the first team.
I would contend that that could be down to the Manager's lacking the willingness and courage to give him an extended run in the team. I feel that MM lacks that risk taking dimension it does mean that although he is a good manager he will never be a great one.

Natural goal scorers are a rare breed. They're not always great footballers but they just have that natural instinct to be in the right place at the right time and they hit the target. He'll be up against better defenders in the championship but he'll still have those instincts. The main point of this game after all is to put the ball in the oppositions net. Rhodes has it and it looks like Marriott has it too. We must give him a try before disgarding him as we did with Rhodes. Wickham is a talented striker but not a natural goal scorer in my book and we got good money for him anyway.

Good work Pinewood and Dundee -
John Noakes from Blue Peter used to be a
big Halifax Town Fan and can remember how
miffed he was after Lambert's Hat-trick.

As for Jack - Really exciting player in waiting - think we
should leave it to Mick and Terry to decide when he is ready.

Woking FC web-site's headline reads "Sweet Marriott". I haven't heard it yet but I can only assume they are singing "Swing low sweet Marriott"! Will be nice to hear that at PR.

IF he has signed this 'offered contract' - great news for everyone - if not, then we all need to be VERY concerned.

And let's hope the offer was for more than the standard 'paltry' one year offer, that this Club is renowned for where youngsters are concerned.

A natural goalscorer - just like a certain JORDAN RHODES - who is still a 'true blue' at heart.
If he keeps his head Jack will be just as successful - mark my words.

michael11. what do you mean, theres no mention of him signing a new deal on here. even if you haven't read the whole story, I think the headline to it tells you that on its own.

We've had 1 hat-trick since 2007 (Wickham -v- Doncaster in 2011)... the luxury of having a player to remove that drought would be such a boost.

Keep it going Jack, at 19, getting time on the pitch is the most important thing.

Wickets - .......... can't do that !!! - he'd probably score another hatrick and embarrass certain people who said / or still thinks he's not up to it yet at this level. And you think I'm joking ? - I'm NOT.
