Cresswell Signs New Deal
Wednesday, 11th Dec 2013 16:46

Left-back Aaron Cresswell has signed a new contract with the Blues, extending his terms to June 2017.

The 23-year-old has been repeatedly linked with Premier League clubs, West Brom were said to be watching him earlier in the week, with manager Mick McCarthy believing he is the best left-back in the Championship.

The former Tranmere player told the club site: “I had about 18 months to run on my contract so obviously I’m delighted to have extended that.

“I am really enjoying my football here. There is a good feel about the place and it’s enjoyable coming to work every day.

“I feel I have progressed as a player and like any professional, I want to get to the top and that means playing in the Premier League. Hopefully I can do that with Ipswich.”

The Liverpudlian, who is 24 on Sunday, joined Town on July 1st 2011 at the end of his contract with Tranmere. A tribunal set terms which eventually saw the Blues pay Rovers £420,000 after a number of top-up clauses were triggered. The League One club are entitled to 20% of the profit Town make on any future sale.

Fantastic news!
I know this doesn't mean he'll stay here forever, but hopefully he will stay put for a few more seasons, if not more.
Great player, and brilliant to see some loyalty from the boy :)
He could go on to become a club legend along with Smith and Hyam if he keeps getting matches for the Town!

Great news, hopefully he will be hear for years to come but if premier league big boys come knocking, this will help us get better price for him

"Delighted to have signed new deal with ITFC. Hopefully push on now and have a good six months.”

Hope this doesnt mean he'll move on in the summer. It might be me just looking to deep into those words, who knows.

Great news! This is why I hope we get into the premier league sooner rather than later, as we need to keep hold of these type of players. His crossing is deadly at times. Hopefully a higher price on him now, so well done for getting him signed up!

Had a stressful day but this news has helped alleviate some of it - top effort to all concerned, club and Cressy - onwards and upwards. COYB!

Great news! As others have said it doesn't mean he will be here for sure until 2017 but he clearly is enjoying his time here. It's great to have a settled side for once. I remember the days with Jewell when we had five or six loan players in the squad. Great to have a much more stable squad.

Great news. Clearly Cresswell is very happy here. No doubt just got a decent pay rise too. Good that ITFC have shown their intent. Only a silly offer from a Premier league club (a la Connor Wickham or Titus Bramble a few years ago) will see him leave us.

Great. Says alot about the club, Manager, & fellow players. Seems to be a good vibe around the place.

I'm probably being optimistic but does the fact he's signed a new deal, void the sell on fee's etc from Tranmere. Probably a daft question as if that were the case you'd just get him to sign a new deal after a few months and wipe the slate, but was just wondering??? Also, one of our most rated players (probably our number 1 rated to be fair) signs a new deal, showing to me that the club is expressing passion, vision and genuine progression to our players/team. Can't remember the last time this happened!!! Really good news!

Extended contract adds to his transfer value ;)

I suspect this is just a move designed to raise the inevitable transfer fee. I have a feeling he'll be off in the January sale.

Fantastic news! By far our. Best player in our squad by a mile. I imagine that includes a big sell on fee too!

Fantastic news, not because it means he'll be here any longer, but because it means we're certain to get a good fee for him. Town are right not to let such a valuable player get into the final year of his contract, too many of our better players in recent years have been allowed to do so and then have walked out the door on a free.

There is every chance he'll go in January or over the summer.

Nice that we have people in charge who seem to know what they are doing.

If we keep up good results over Christmas/ until window shuts hopefully convince him (and Town) to resist any offers.
