Tottenham Eyeing Cresswell
Thursday, 23rd Jan 2014 09:36

Tottenham are the latest Premier League side reported to be eyeing Blues left-back Aaron Cresswell.

The 24-year-old, who recently signed a new contract until the summer of 2017, has regularly been linked with top flight clubs over the last 18 months with West Brom, Fulham and Southampton frequent visitors to Portman Road this season and Aston Villa having made an enquiry in the summer of 2012.

According to the Daily Mail recently appointed Spurs boss Tim Sherwood is keen to build his squad around a core of British players with a new left-back and striker amongst his priorities. Cresswell, Southampton left-back Luke Shaw and Burnley striker Danny Ings are said to be amongst those being watched.

A fortnight ago, TWTD reported that Tottenham were one of a number of Premier League clubs to have sent a scout to Town’s 1-1 FA Cup draw with Preston.

If Cresswell were to be sold, the Liverpudlian’s former club Tranmere Rovers would be entitled to 20% of the profit Town would make on the £420,000 they paid for him in the summer of 2011.

A Football League tribunal set a compensation figure of an initial £240,000 plus milestone clauses with only a £100,000 payment on promotion to the Premier League not triggered.

Sell him an invest the money in other areas that need strengthening.

This would be a huge loss. But could Tyrone Mings be a capable replacement going forward? I think he might well be and we could use any money to get in some decent midfielders. Mixed feelings over this. No doubt he has Premier League class though.

If we sell, like the Wickham deal, Evans will not spend the fee. We have to keep him.

This could be one that tempts him. European football and all that.

Bit of a myth that the Wickham money wasn't spent on the team, it covered the annual operating loss for that season.

You are one of the numerous people on here that believe all the crap you hear from the Evans camp ITFC is being ruined by this company just look at the figures debt of £32 m 5 years ago now £82m and what is there to show for it.
I will tell you nothing

At least Spurs will pay over the odds, hopefully the £6 million he's worth.

And when we sold Wickham we bought JET and Taylor for £3million combined innit

Agree buey123. I have heard that all is not what it seems with Evans and the club etc.

As regards with the Spurs rumour, If we can get 6 Million+ then sell him as long as the club uses every penny to invest in new players. If lower than 6M then forget it!

Not sure what to make of yet another link. Usually I ignore speculation, but at some point with Cresswell I feel it will eventually come to something and he'll go to a good club (would you begrudge him?)

Until then, let's just be blissfully unaware! No point speculating and arguing about what we'd do if Cresswell leaves until it is confirmed that he actually will. One thing for certain is that Mick isn't stupid and that he knows how to spot a decent defender.

I just read some more comments: SIX million?! You guys are living in dream land, surely..? The player remains untested at the top level, and finances are getting tighter and tighter in the PL bar the top three or four clubs.

I'd value him at about 3m. A very good attacking fb, but not the finished article yet...

Mings is fine as a backup and has a brilliant attitude, but he does seem fairly injury prone and does not have the skill (yet) to replace Cresswell. If we sold Cresswell we would definitely need to invest in a quality replacement and some more attacking threat in the middle.

2 million is all it will take ,we cant pay our bills ,finance is as tight as our MDs trousers. Wake up and smell the tractor , we have declining income , low match gates and an operating annual loss that would support the majority of league one. Things are not rosey in the garden. There is even a florist with a bill outstanding from October of 128 quid. Quick sand springs to mind.

We should be looking for an absoloute minimum of 5 million for cresswell to start with, 1. He is the leading assist maker in the championship from left back!!! And 2. We owe a sell on to tranmere, so if he went for 3 million id be fuming!!!

He won't go in this window possibly in the summer and only if we get a £5million plus offer Mings is a capable replacement but we would definitely miss his set piece abilities, he is definitely our best player reminds me of a young Jamie Clapham who ironically we bought from Tottenham, can't see him going to Everton as Baines is signing a new deal so he would more than likely be cover for Baines, IF he goes I see him going to someone like Stoke, Southampton, WBA or Fulham maybe.

Michael has been shouting for a club to buy him for quite a while.

it would be worth keeping him if the team was likely to achieve something this season. It's mid table again, so let him go.

He'll be off if we receive a decent offer. That is why MM has been banging on about how good Tyrone is. So that we all believe we have an able replacement waiting in the wings.

Cannot let him go if we are to progress as a club , I would like to see him play as a wing back for us with 3 at the back Berra, Chambers and Smith with Edwards on the other side as for me he is our most creative player . If not play him left midfield with Mings behind has to be a better option than Tabb,Tunnicliffe ?
For all of Jewells faults good signing ability wise and profit if resold ,not many signings in recent Town history can match from last four managers ?

Was merely quoting the facts re Wickham and where the cash went. I'm sure ME is as aware as anyone that a lot of money has been spent without making any progress, probably more so given that it's his money that's been wasted.
