Town Target Garvan Return
Wednesday, 5th Feb 2014 12:28

TWTD understands that Town are looking to sign former Blue Owen Garvan on loan from Crystal Palace. Boss Mick McCarthy wants to add another midfielder to his squad to replace loanee Ryan Tunnicliffe, who joined Fulham from parent club Manchester United on the final day of the transfer window.

Garvan, 26, has not been included in the Eagles’ 25-man squad for remainder of the season, also having been omitted during the first half of the campaign.

The Dubliner came through the academy at Town - he was a member of the 2005 FA Youth Cup-winning squad - before making his debut in August 2005.

After making 134 starts and 40 sub appearances, scoring 15 goals, he moved on to Palace in the summer of 2010 during George Burley’s spell in charge at Selhurst Park.

Contracted until 2015, the Irishman has made 71 starts and 15 sub appearances for the Eagles, scoring 11 goals, but has played only three games this season, all in the opening month of the campaign.

Town boss McCarthy hoped to add to his midfield options before last Friday’s deadline but pulled out of a deal to sign a player believed to be Leeds United’s Paul Green having been unable to come to an agreement regarding wages.

Speaking after the Bolton game, the Town manager said he would look at the emergency loan market when it opens on Saturday, expecting other players to become available with clubs having made additions during the transfer window. Football League clubs can sign loanees for up to 93 days.

A fortnight ago, http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/24461/mccarthy-watches-palaces-u21s>TWTD reported that McCarthy was spotted watching a Palace U21 side including Garvan beat Bristol City 2-0.

DO IT mick!!

Fair enough, he may have lacked that little extra quality, but he's a lad of our own traditions and is at least as good if not better than what we have. Not seen him play in a while, so just hoping he still has a decent touch!

Personally I would welcome Owen back with open arms , but I'm sure that he would be a MM type of player.

Too similar to Skuse, not what we need.

Its got to be a good idea. He has to be at least as good as we have in midfield.

would be happy with this. Always rated him and at 26 is a good age. From what I remember he had a good eye for a pass. Could do with a bit more pace but cant have it all!

I always liked Owen but not my 1st choice.

If Skuse is out for a bit it makes sense.
Just hope he doesn't get the fear at PR 21 minutes in, after that odd Keane substitution.

I think this could be good! He wasn't the best player for us but in Palaces promotion year he was a key player in there midfield! He's a good age and maybe coming back to us he has something to prove, He also scored a few and assisted a few as well.

It`s not quality he lacked, it`s pace that he`s short of

good signing though

sign him, then send him out on loan to get match fit. absolutely pointless. he'll just about be fit for when his loan is over.

more moving deckchairs. mid table here we come.

Get him in!

Decent player who would of matured and improved so much since leaving Town (when he was an alright player anyway). Play him alongside Skuse who would sit and do the defensive work, leaving Garvan free to spray the ball around. Hopefully this would make us a little more attacking (if we sign him) - something we desperately need.

Hyam could then be used as back-up, which in fairness is about his level!

Better than Paul Green and certainly not similar to Skuse

You lot on here can comment all you like about Garvan's shortcomings or whatever, but at the end of the day MM knows more about football than you ever will. If he decides that Garvan is suitable and signs him on loan, then accept it. Mick knows. Carry on now you cocks.

A good addition to the side. I feel that we are lacking some creative quality in midfield based on recent performances.

Always liked Garvan and was sad to see him go. We desperately need a bit of creativity so I can't see many reasons against this move.

Good signing. Slow but good attacking vision. We don't need someone quick in midfield just someone to pass it to our players on the floor.

I would prefer Owen to Paul Green. He would bring a bit of creativity with him, which is what we seem to be lacking at times.

If this is true its the best news we've had for a long time.
He was always one of my favourite players when he was here.I can't wait to see him supplying the bullets for Didsy.
he does lack a bit of pace but has more vision and passing ability then the rest of our midfield put together.
