O'Neill Watches Blues
Monday, 17th Feb 2014 09:21

Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill was a guest of the club at Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Blackpool.

The Blues squad contains several players with Irish caps or hoping to break into O’Neill and assistant manager Roy Keane’s squad.

New signing Paul Green played in their first two friendlies against Latvia and Poland in November, while Daryl Murphy and Stephen Hunt are keen to add to their appearances.

Top scorer David McGoldrick recently confirmed that he is eligible for the Republic of Ireland, while defender Luke Chambers also qualifies and Jay Tabb won Irish U21 caps.

I was thinking exactly the same thing, Formerly Chico. When Paul Green joined, it was inevitable that O'Neill and Keane would start watching us. I wonder if our Roy will just pop along to our away games.

Well - Chambo will probably be the only one to have done himself any favours on that performance. Unless ROI are really desperate.

Something that I have always struggled to understand. Those players are playing to get back in to the top 6 AND know that they are playing in front of O'Neil. What more motivation do they need to play out of their skins? I remember feeling the same way when we played Derby fairly early on in the season under BFJ to go top of the league (I think). We lost and put up a really poor performance. I don't mind the losses or the draws. Its the nature of the performances. Maybe for the players its all about the cash and they just need to be on a bigger win bonus...

Only Chambers from that list did himself justice on Saturday. In fact, he seemed to be the main man putting in crosses. When you're relying on the delivery from a centre back you know something is not right with the team!

Green tried hard, but is he really a better option of the right of a four man midfield ahead of Anderson, Edwards, Taylor or even Richardson?

He wasn't there to watch McGoldrick he was there to see MM's tactics on how to park a bus at home against the mighty Blackpool.

Feel sorry for him ... but probably would've been more entertaining (for us at least) if Keane had come along to this one ... him and Chopra to boo (on a day where there was little on offer to cheer).
