McGoldrick Out for 10 Weeks
Monday, 17th Feb 2014 12:53

Town’s play-off hopes have been dealt a serious blow with 16-goal top scorer David McGoldrick ruled out for around 10 weeks - all but the final week of the season - with a knee injury. The 26-year-old suffered the problem in the closing minutes of Saturday’s 0-0 home draw with Blackpool.

“Didz [McGoldrick] has suffered a partial tear of the medial ligament in his right knee,” physio Matt Byard told the club website. “He had an MRI scan this morning and will be wearing a brace for the next six weeks.

“After that, you are looking at the rehabilitation of around four weeks, so in all we’d expect Didz to be out for 10 weeks, which obviously takes us up to the last week of the season.”

Byard says there is better news regarding keeper Dean Gerken, who missed Saturday’s match with a stiff neck, and midfielder Paul Green, who took a heavy knock.

“Gerks has a neck strain but it’s improved today and if that continues, he should be fit to train later in the week,” he added.

“Paul took a bad kick on Saturday but again he should be fine for later in the week."

Midfielder Luke Hyam was forced off in the early stages of Saturday's game with a hamstring problem.

Horrible news. And with a squad already as small as ours, our main goal threat and creative force out it does look very bleak for Play Offs now (what chance there was left).

Let's hope SEB can get match fit and stay fit and chip in with a few goals, maybe it will give Taylor a chance to prove his worth before the seasons over as well.

I doubt there's any proven goalscorers out there in the loan market.

Time for Paul Taylor to get a game as a central striker?

Terrible news. I would write play-offs over, but realistically I think they were already after the weekend's results.

McGoldrick now needs to focus on recovering and get himself ready for the start of the next season. He and the club need to sit down to work out a new contract too, as we can't have such a star player going into the final 12 months of his contract.

Step up, Ebanks-Blake and Taylor. Show us what you can do please.

Do you use Byards comments twice, or does he think six weeks is fine; "“Paul took a bad kick on Saturday but again he should be fine for later in the week. He had an MRI scan this morning and will be wearing a brace for the next six weeks.""

Putting it out there - what about a recall for Marriot - good time to get him on that bench and get him out there for some last 10/15s?

Let's face it, we weren't going to reach the play offs anyway. Good chance for Taylor or SEB now

And Nouble is certainly not the answer!

This is very bad news.Perhaps the owner will now help the club out with getting in a top quality loan striker,or is that just wishful thinking. I hope not.!! Three points is now a must for next Saturday,we can still do it.COYB.

I make that a good shout timmy2guns we have nothing to lose and if Taylor and SEB do their bit who knows, and it's been a while since Murphy stuck one away but notice no mention of our prolific midfield chipping in with any

terrible news but if we were to be positive an actually attack and try and win games we could play ebanks blake and taylor and all may not be lost
this should be taylors moment to step into the team-if he dosent we will know for sure it is down to a personality clash with MM

Really disappointing for us as he was realistically the one person who could fire us into 6th place and really disappointing for him as he could have easily scored over 20 goals this season. Absolutely gutted.

Well then, time for the others to step up. Murphy is more of a target man and has some good touches but will only score a few. We won't see the best of Ebanks-Blake for a while yet, Nouble is wildly inconsistent and like Murphy, isn't an out and out goalscorer, surely time for Taylor to play more, doubt Alan Lee's the answer to our problem and perhaps, in agreement with timmy2guns, a possible recall for Marriot?

Should have read :-

Perhaps Paul Taylor will get to play after all, however losing Mc'Goldrick is going to be a massive problem I think
