Marriott on Target
Saturday, 22nd Feb 2014 22:33

Jack Marriott netted the second goal of his current loan spell with Woking as they beat Macclesfield 3-2 at home in the Skrill Premier. The 19-year-old, who grabbed the Cards' first of the afternoon, has now scored 11 goals across his two loans at the Kingfield Stadium.

Elsewhere, Elliott Hewitt was in the Gillingham side which lost 1-0 at Oldham in League One, while in League Two Freddie Veseli’s Bury scored a last minute goal to win 1-0 at AFC Wimbledon.

Veseli’s loan spell with the Shakers is now up but he is keen to stay at Gigg Lane and manager Mick McCarthy has said he would be happy for the Swiss U21 international to remain with the Lancastrians.

We really should get him back here get him on the bench get him on for the last 15 minutes of the next few games work him in slowly and towards the end of the season Give him a few 90 minutes and we can all see if he can cut it at this level would love to see the lad given a change got nothing to lose have we hate to say it but play offs won't be happening now so get him ready for next.season:)

Nouble Not a hard decision no offence to Nouble but he just isn't good enough

How do you know Marriott will be any better than Nouble? He's scored a lot of goals, yes, but in a league 3 divisions lower. I'm sure if Nouble was playing for Crawley he'd be banging them in too... Marriott is also very small and light weight. I think MM would have question marks over whether he's ready for the physicality of the championship.

Josh The Lad how will you ever know if you do not give him a try. There have been a lot of 'small and lightweight' strikers that have been a success at the highest level.

The key thing about Marriott that I feel would make him a success at this level is he will make his own chances and go on impressive runs instead of relying on build up play; so with questionable midfield play he can still create chances for himself. Something we need in the 1st team in my opinion.

Josh the lad.... what has size and weight got to do with it, Eric Gates ,Kevin wilson and David Johnson 2nd were all good players who scored lots of goals and were the same size or smaller in an era , especially Gates ( never wore shin pads) when i would argue the game was more physical ! Bring Marriot back i say and get him some game time here.... lets start looking towards next season.

This is a catch 22 situation.when can you ever say a player is ready for the first team, but I do think he deserves a chance even though he is scoring goals in a lower league. If his confidence is high then he could be fine.Perhaps he would be better in a 4.3.3.If it was up to me I would give him a game next sat, what do we have to loose. The play-offs are a long way off for me.We are not ready to go up,as much as I would like it.best to get the team settled in the summer ie; midfield, and got for it next season.

Nouble , quite clearly is not ready for the first team , hasn't stopped our wonderful manager playing him every week though. I don't think marriott is ever going to get his chance here. Only a change of manager will save us from losing another promising striker.

Muccle. This time last year we were 3 points off relegation and 18th in the league. What do you want? Change the manager every 2 seasons?

Josh the lad its a good job Zola wasn't considered too small and light weight and surely that guy Messi is too small and light weight.

No I am not comparing Marriott to those two just saying small and light weight players can make good but unless they are given a chance we'll never know.

He must be given a chance surely MM can't be that arrogant that he will stick with Nouble to prove a point. MM seems to show bias towards the players he bought in and seems imo to think the only way to play football is to not get beaten rather than create chances attack and score we need change somewhere be it at board level or management or we will wallow in the championship for many seasons more.

Marriott is scoring goals at non league level, not the Championship. Having said that, is he worse than Nouble? Probably not. Although I remain ambitious and expect us to do well, the stark reality is the season is over, so maybe it's time to bed in a youngster like Marriott? For me, even the likes of Murphy ( a trier, but not a regular scorer) are not the future of ITFC.

And what would you want asamink. To keep a manager for ever more just because he saved us from relegation ? Even though he plays the most boring form of crass football I have ever seen.

He has turned this club around from a struggling team facing relegation to a team in the top half of the league in 12 months. Why get shot of him now? We have a few bad games and the the idiots who expect a miracle start calling for his head. The overall long term trend is on the up and until that changes then cheer on the team and the manager. Simple.

We love Jack Marriott! We love Jack Marriott!

If he is as good as some here suggest, I don't think he would be playing for Woking now, he would still be at Gillingham banging the goals in there.
I would love to see Marriott become a goalmachine at Ipswich and he might be in the future, but I think it's better to give him time to mature at the right level, than to throw him in at the deep end in the Championship when he had to be rescued off the bench in League One.

C'mon Mick, stop being so turgid with your team selections..get Marriott back here and play him for the remainder of this season rather than persevering with Nouble.

We've nothing to lose now..not many of us realistically think we're going up so give him the experience at this level ahead of next season.
