Anderson: Next Four Games Massive
Wednesday, 19th Mar 2014 20:12

Midfielder Paul Anderson believes the next four games will dictate whether the Blues will be in the running for a play-off place come May.

Town travel to eighth-placed Brighton on Saturday before Derby and Nottingham Forest - who are both currently in the play-off zone and who meet in an East Midlands derby at the weekend - visit Portman Road, then April starts with a trip to Blackburn, who are 10th just behind the Blues in ninth.

“We have got some massive games coming up, starting with Brighton,” Anderson told the club site.

“Leicester and Burnley look like they have gone but the other places are up for grabs and we are still in there.

“Our next four games are against teams in the play-offs or around them and you’d think they are likely to dictate whether we are in with a chance of finishing in the top six or not.

“Hopefully we will be right in there but whatever happens, it’s still a massive progression for the club from the last four or five years.”

Brighton are expecting a 30,000 crowd at the Amex Stadium on Saturday with almost 1,800 fans following the Blues.

Meanwhile, Town’s U18s are in action away against Bristol City on Thursday afternoon (KO 1pm). The Robins play their academy games at SGS College in New Road, Stoke Gifford.

Lets hope for the best , but the forwards certainly have to score more than the one goal they have managed between them in the last six games , maybe the midfield could manage a goal as well ?

ian207 added 20:43 - Mar 19
firstly there is no hope of reaching play-offs and if they do I have more chance of me winning lotto. ps I don't do lotto, than this team reaching premership

The price on Ipswich getting promotion is 40/1, but I suspect the bookies have built quite a lot of profit into that price!

Let's just enjoy the rest of the season and hope that in the summer we sign some midfielders who can create and score goals.

Chalo-bah added 20:49 - Mar 19
Stop. Please stop. With the likes of Anderson at right mid will see us nowhere near top 6. Our season ended the minute McG got injured. Cressy woeful since October. Top 10 will still be massive for us. Evans to put up or sell up, signing the likes of Green when you're so close to the top 6 is a disgrace. Our best manager in 10 years deserves more than that.

Shineyblueknives added 21:13 - Mar 19
Sir alf. To be honest I totally agree with you. I think our season is over.
If ME had splashed the cash a bit more like he did with the previous managers we could of possibly been a lot higher than we presently sit

Getting so tired of all this playoff nonsense, even promotion talk, for christ sake please get reall! i shall say this once more.....WE JUST AIN,T GOOD ENOUGH ! YET!

Our season was over ages ago when we gifted points, played totally lack lustre games, with little bite nor interest!

Now some may give me minus for telling the truth, but for all things precious in life someone has to say it!

I may add i,m a town supporter of some 30yrs, and shall continue so, but of all things i,m a realist!

TimmyH added 21:49 - Mar 19
God! wasn't Mick and somebody else saying this last weekend and the weekend before? - the 'massive games coming up' shouldn't that have started with Wigan?

NoCanariesAllowed added 21:51 - Mar 19
But I thought Luke Hyam said there were three massive games starting with Wigan? Now I'm all confused as to which games I'm supposed to think are massive and which are just dead rubber end of season gubbins...

Garv added 22:12 - Mar 19
Footballers are dull.

RaymondovicBlue added 22:14 - Mar 19
No - Luke Hyam also said there were 4 massive games ahead ... my post in response was to say that they WOULD have been massive games had we not just lost the "must win" one.

we will need MAXIMUM points to be in a play off position .,.. not just from the next four games, but all season

Sorry - but next year will be in the championship!

Cloddyseedbed added 22:21 - Mar 19
Karls dad, a realist is a pessimist with experience and getting used to what is dished up at Portman Road. I agree we are no where near good enough and the football is embarrassing.
Will it change next season - not unless the mentality of Evans and McCarthy does.

marshallmania added 23:09 - Mar 19
No chance with play offs but great effort this season. Hopefully Mick will get his team spot on for next season

Robbie12345 added 23:09 - Mar 19
Haha looks like the moaners are back out in full force! Clueless half-fans who don't understand progress, are forgetful of how we were before Mick (with players like Soko and Higginbottom in defence), have absolutely no idea about the FFP rules and have no concideration of the clubs finacial well being.. Morons.. Down arrow please 😏

riley26 added 23:10 - Mar 19
Cambers. Berra. Smith. Cresswell.

Taylor. Hunt.

Ebanks-Blake. Murphy.

I imagine we'll go up to Brighton looking to be stubborn, and fair enough Mick has made us a solid team. But at this stage in the season we need to be winning all of these games, let's get at these teams, I can't see us winning the next four games 1-0, we need goals. At least at home let's put out a team with attacking intent.

riley26 added 23:12 - Mar 19
The shape of that formation looked a lot different when I posted! But you get the idea, let's play two strikers, two wingers who can actually beat a man and have one midfielder in the centre with creative spark. Skuse is a good player, let him operate as the lone defensive midfielder.

dannyrr added 23:19 - Mar 19
We have failed to win some of the already 'massive' games and the games that we should have been winning easily when teams have been on a bad run which has normally ended when they have played Town. Too many experimental teams have been fielded and they have not been driven enough to win nor defend these games. I would love to see us go on a winning streak but can't see it happen with a setup of non game winning players being given games ahead of others.

Some weeks I watch Town play and think that we could win with the players that we currently have but we either play the wrong team or the wrong formation or don't have a winning mentality.

I hope that we will improve next season and maybe sometime in the future return to the Premier League hopefully sooner rather than later.

If we win Saturday who knows?

essexboy added 07:25 - Mar 20
Riley26,are we playing without a keeper on every game is important, not just these next four, why do we keep saying this.If the right team selections had been made earlier in the season I doubt we would be chasing the last position now.In fact other teams would be chasing us.It's all if's and but's now.Shame but that's the way the cookie crumbles.COYB

To little, to late.....

Keaneish added 07:58 - Mar 20
That's weird, I thought last week was a must win massive game?

TrabzonBlue added 08:10 - Mar 20
Can we all just drop this playoff fallacy and accept this season for what it is, i.e. an improvement on last season. The players just need to come out and tell us they will try their best, if in the unlikely event that leads to playoffs - great! if not, thanks for you efforts but lets make sure next season is the season where we make a genuine push.

Steve_ITFC_Sweden added 08:19 - Mar 20
The "next four games" have been "massive" for quite a long time now. We shall soon be running out of games. Still, it would be wrong to give up and sound negative while we still have a mathematical chance.

Jimmyonthewing added 08:40 - Mar 20
Brighton are in pretty much the same boat as us, perhaps a slightly better team and with a much larger support. And they will also still be in the championship next season. My prediction is a draw which will suit neither, but of course any winner will look forward to the next 'massive' game, the loser accepting that the season is over. Our only real hope is to develop some youth - look at Southampton with whom we always used to be comparable

brittaniaman added 08:47 - Mar 20
How the Hell did Yeovil manage to score 3 goals away at Wigan ???????
Must be more of an attacking force than us ???

Kesgraveblue57 added 09:33 - Mar 20
I ask you how many of the current squad do you want to see in a Town shirt next season ? most of them and MM talk a great game then something seems to go wrong week after week
