Town Announce Season Ticket Price Rise
Thursday, 20th Mar 2014 17:16

Town have announced a slight rise in season ticket prices for the 2014/15 campaign. An adult seat in the lower tier of any stand purchased before the April 14th early bird deadline costs £399 compared with £390 for the current season, only the second time prices have risen in the last eight years.

That works out at £17.35 per game at Championship level, a saving of more than £230 compared with the club’s current matchday prices.

Upper tier prices around the stadium for a standard season ticket have gone up by around six per cent.

Season tickets for concessions are available from £289, while fans under 20 will pay from £231.

The under-11s season ticket is frozen at £10 for the year, while the cheapest under-16s price has increased to £113.

Town, who had around 12,000 season ticket holders last season, have added an incentive to sign up to the Academy Association. Season ticket holders who purchase before the Early Bird deadline of April 14th and who are investing £10 a month in the Academy Association will receive a free Premier League season ticket for 2015/16 if Town go up.

This replaces the Premier League Price Pledge which has run for a number of seasons and gave season ticket holders 50 per cent off a Premier League season ticket if the Blues went up.

The 12-month interest free direct debit payment scheme with continue with those that used the facility last season automatically renewed for 2014/15.

Joint-managing director Jonathan Symonds said: “One look at the Championship table illustrates the progress we have made over the past year or so.

“Under Mick, we are heading in the right direction and striding closer to our ambitions of Premier League football.

“While success at first-team level is obviously the priority, we are also committed to investing in homegrown talent through our Academy and we hope to reach category one status by the end of the season.

“That will put us in the best position to find and develop our own players and see them progress to the first team.”

Season tickets go on sale from ITFC Direct on Monday with more details on the club site.

a £9 rise what are people moaning about I'll be renewing again, why don't a few of you part time fans on here buy one, you might enjoy watching games live, rather that listening to commentary on the radio..

Progress has been made this season, thats without question, with the emphasis on results over entertainment and in the main fans have tolerated this to a certain extent, because it has achieved results, especially over the festive period, but purely from an entertainment point it has been negative and poor at times from a footballing point of view. The club dont often raise prices but I feel when attendances are dropping week on week it is possibly not the right decision with regards to fans who are sitting on the fence over renewing their season ticket. Especially as the entertainment hasn't been great

My decision not to renew is not due to finance its due to boredom and watching direct football straight from 80s and 90s , am intending to watch local lower league next year unless MMs ethos somehow changes from now until May

I really don't understand this. The rise in price is so small that even if everyone renewed the additional revenue will be minimal. As it stands if between 300 & 400 do not renew the overall revenue will fall. Wouldn't it be better to to try to attract more season ticket holders by reducing prices slightly? After all the match day ticket pricing policy is totally discredited and currently the lifeblood of the club is in its season ticket holders. We need more not less of these; price increases at this point in time is not the way forward.

Yes the price rise is minimal but the prices need to go DOWN

agreed with some posts...about time that the powers that be want to start knocking their heads together on how to get more bums on seats - they can start by reducing the match day tickets, but obviously that might make some of the season ticket holders angry. Simple don't renew and pick the games you want to go to, let's face it the quality has been poor - for £17.50 each saturday I could play an 'average' golf course for a bit more and have 4 hours of entertainment (not that my golf is entertaining).

What backward thinking by the club again-a little progress so lets try and reap the rewards whilst were still in with a tiny shout. The football has been poor the entertainment level very low,its not always about points its the whole experience from before kick off to getting in the car and at the moment the only move for ticket prices should be down as watching that every week is getting torturous.Watching live football is a gamble ,my money is safer in my pocket.

I am a season ticket holder and in my opinion they are good value if you can get to every game. The problem as I see it is that not everyone can make every game and therefore the keen but casual supporter gets left high and dry. Only 3,000 extra people turn up on the day, this could be significantly increased with lower on the day prices. Yes a season ticket holder should get a bit of money off but 30% or so? The match day ticket prices are the thing which needs addressing to get PR rocking again.

.......... the worries and concerns some of us have about the well being and direction of our 'great club' certainly don't seem to be easing unfortunately. Maybe we just have to accept that everything in the game has changed for the worse, and be grateful for small mercies that (argueably) we are still better off than some in terms of ownership anyway.

What the future holds tho' - is indeed anyone's guess. Who knows ?.........

Blackmail the fans why don't you Invest in the academy or pay full price for a season ticket if we get promoted
This club is starting to stink.

It's not the price rise that will stop people renewing or buying season tickets it's the entertainment value. This has been seriously lacking.

We don't see pulsating games anymore and by this I don't mean the lack of Spanish style 'tippy tappy' football, I mean the blood and guts one end to other, coming back from the dead to knick it in the end, type football.

I want the atmosphere of the play off semi final second leg against Bolton.

I want the 2-0 down to Sheff Utd, get a player sent off and still win 3-2 type of football.

I want the Counago goal after 7 minutes of added on time to beat Coventry type of football.

I want some of the atmosphere that we had when we demolished Norwich 5-0 with a Alex Mathie hat trick or when Gunn missed the Ullathorne pass back.

Its the atmosphere and excitement, win or lose, that will bring back the crowds and we haven't had that for a very long time.

If we had that excitement week in and week out people will pay double what they are paying now.

Bergholtblue I agree. I have been trying to rack my brains as to when the last time we had a real hum-dinger at Portman Road. Perhaps Tamas Priskin's goal against Arsenal in 2011? We certainly haven't had any with Mick McCarthy that's for sure. Although the results have improved under MM the entertainment has been woeful.

I have a 100 mile round trip to PR and go abroad at the weekends quite a bit. That's a personal lifestyle choice but I cannot justify renewing my season ticket next year unfortunately. The problem is, match day tickets are so expensive that I probably wont bother going full stop anymore - Its a £70 afternoon out including fuel etc. Is there a problem with actually providing good value these days?

I am going to watch FC Koln on Saturday (£45 return flight and £14 match day ticket = £59!) They get 45,000 every week by the way in the second tier.

Agree with most of the comments, it's not the price but the lack of entertainment provided, we enjoy a few beers before and after the game, and now see the game as the boring bit in the middle, and as for the younger fans, I have a teenage son who stopped watching 4 years ago as have most of his mates, they say it's rubbish at Portman Road, and to be honest they are right

The drive to the game's good, the walk to the ground's good, the football's crap. The half time entertainment is embarrassing, the program's are expensive, so is the food and drink. Try to book extra tickets online - complicated so give up. So many things that could be made better for value for money. Do the joint managing directors listen - no. If the football was better I'd not worry about any of the other things at the ground. What is the club doing to encourage supporters to want to go? We hear absolutely nothing from Evans. After going since the 60'' it's really starting to loose it's appeal to me as I no longer feel part of the club.

Going by the general vibe I wouldn't be surprised to see attendances of 13,000 / 14,000 next season.

I dont think it will make any difference to supporters re-newing or others considering buying, as many have said, match day prices are the problem.

Pretty sure we all agree the Club has moved in the right direction, the team and future of the team im not sure..... if we have no real money to spend and nothing special coming thru the academy, we will need to do a very good Del Boy job in the summer.

Back to my point, value for money. A Mick Mcarthy team HAS to be winning, because playing like this and losing isnt much fun at all, no flair, imagination, pace etc etc truth be told, we arent that interesting to watch in my opinión.

Having said that, we are 3/4 players off having a go next season in a very ordinary league so lets see! COYB

After being a steward for 6 year and a current season ticket holder for last 2 years I can't see myself renewing it. The football on show is so boring I spend most of the time talking to the blokes behind me. The last home game against wigan pretty much made my mind up playing one up front in a game we really needed win if MM had any hopes of getting in the playoffs was abysmal I've seen more flair and creativity in my son's lego box and I can't see it getting better anytime soon.

You wont be missed then The Gov, try being a season ticket holder for over 5 years then come back! What a load of moaners! 75 pence extra a month not £75 extra get a grip! People who vote down this post are one of the moaners, so this will tell me how many moaners there are!

It's a kick in the teeth to season ticket holders, I'm incensed that you support the club year after year and they treat you like this. Up the price by a reasonable amount, but don't play on people's emotions and get them to put their hand a little deeper into their pocket.
However can anyone honestly say that we have any chance of being promoted next season with the current squad and tactics being employed by the management team, do the majority of fans believe it, I don't think so. Do we hope it will happen, of course we do. I am beginning to think that MM just does not have the vision to be able to deliver a promotion winning side. He is becoming so concerned with not losing the game that he has lost sight of what he actually wants to achieve.
