Anderson and Hunt Return at Huddersfield
Tuesday, 8th Apr 2014 18:56

Town boss Mick McCarthy has made two changes for this evening’s game at Huddersfield with Paul Anderson and Stephen Hunt coming back into the side in place of Anthony Wordsworth and Frank Nouble.

The Blues are otherwise unchanged with the back four together for the 25th league game in succession. On-loan Manchester City winger Alex Henshall is on the bench for the first time with Paul Green dropping out of the 18.

Green, Jay Tabb and Paul Taylor all travelled but are left out of the matchday squad.

Huddersfield: Smithies (c), Lynch, Gerrard, Smith, Dixon, Gobern, Clayton, Norwood, Hammill, Ward, Wells. Subs: Bennett, Woods, Clarke, Hogg, Scannell, Holmes, Bunn.

Town: Gerken, Chambers (c), Berra, Smith, Cresswell, Skuse, Hyam, Anderson, Hunt, Williams, Murphy. Subs: Loach, Henshall, Wordsworth, Nouble, Ebanks-Blake, Richardson, Mings. Referee: Mark Brown (East Yorkshire).

Ipswichbusiness - they don't play with width though, its a fallacy. Anderson and Hunt are always briefed to play narrow which is why playing one up front in this system is ridiculous as we run out of options 25 yards from goal. We never get behind teams playing like this and we never stretch teams. Its methodical and dull relying on the creativity of Williams of the industry of Murphy...

Two outlets. Or set pieces of course...

bobya - because MM knows far more about football management than I do, but that doesn't mean I can't be frustrated with his team selection! As I said, I hope we win, of course I do, but I'd really like to see a more positive set up with both Woody and Taylor in the team. IMHO of course.

Surprised with the team selection - looks like an admission he got it wrong on Saturday , especially with Anderson . But still enough to grind out a win with impact players on the bench

I think Paul Taylor's time at Ipswich Town is over, unfortunately.

Anderson has been very poor in recent weeks, and to be totally honest I think Hunt has no footballing ability. Would love to see Woody involved, but he's not going to be put in over Hyam or Skuse, Mick quite clearly has favourites. I think that combo would work better if we had pure class down either wing in almost a 4-2-2-2.

Skuse was poor when I last got to watch us against Forest.

Anyhow, COYB!

I thought the player who lost us the game at Blackburn was the goalkeeper. His reactions wre very slow. Loach in should have been the only change for tonight!

I begin to wonder if McCarthy wants to avoid promotion to the Prem. As things stand he can keep a team in the top half of the Championship and he's got a cushy number long term; settled for him, settled for his family.
If he achieve promotion then Evan can recover his investment and bailout or Town will struggle and as some not too distant point be relegated and then the Manager's job is in jeopardy.
Could be McCarthy has settled for the comfy option.

It's only early days isn't it? But I'm sure the majority of us would like to see all the whiny boys eat humble pie. COYB!

But fair play to Keanish who's already popped his in the oven, just in case. I'm having spaghetti with squid, fennel, cherry toms, chorizo and garlic. What's everybody else having?

So RegencyBlue says he would like to see Skuse and Wordsworth in middle. I say selecting Hyam is a joke = exactly same thing I get -ves Regency gets +ves. Probably the same people voting that way. Intelligent ?

Maintain my stance Luke Hyam nowhere near good enough for the championship. Skuse and Hyam play in same position and Skuse is miles better. We will not succeed in this league with Hyam in the team!!! Fact.

Queue more -ve votes but it's the truth !!!

lonelyblue - it's Qatar whiny boy here (I assume that comment was aimed at the likes of me?). No need for me to eat humble pie fella and I will go on expressing my frustration whenever I feel the need to do so. It would be a boring forum if we all agreed with everything MM did, but just because we proffer a comment it doesn't mean we're whiny boys - we're just passionate about Town and have an opinion!

Maybe Taylor was ill AFTER being in Colchester town centre Saturday night!

Think Wordsworth opened his mouth to the wrong people and has paid the price.

Currently 2 up so something is going right with the side that everyone seems to think is CRAP!

Still we all think we are a better manager than MM and that he knows nothing.

Still keeps this board ticking over with the pathetic ramblings of a few!

Qatarblue, it was aimed at anyone who's having a go at a manager who has managed to get a moderately good bunch of players within a sniff of the play offs, before a ball is kicked. Passion can take various forms. We don't have to agree with everything that MM does, sometimes his decisions seem perplexing, but before a ball is kicked it might be an idea to have a look what he's getting at first. This I think: he's quite happy to play a flair player - Williams - if he thinks he'll do the proper business. Otherwise, all those 'crappy' points when we 'should've gone for a win' throughout the season, they don't look too bad at the moment.

It doesn't look like McCarthy is the ome looking a complete and utter moron.

I was at Blackburn on Saturday. Wordsworth is NOT a right sided midfielder. It's him or Skuse. Nouble is an impact player - probably the best we've got on the books. Definitely NOT Hunt, Anderson or Tabb. Still hoping that Sylvan EB gets that elusive first goal real soon!

Lonely Blue and Langdon Blue - fair enough. I hold my hands up and in hindsight I should have been more measured in my criticism of MM. I still find him to be pretty thick and his team selections and tactics frustrate the hell out of me but I do accept he's done a decent job to get us where we are with the limited resources available. I just feel that with a bit more flair, that we have in Woody and Taylor, we may have reaped dividends over the course of the season but we will never know. And I really do despise the way he sticks with his favourites no matter how badly play.

Never mind, we're all friends now. Taylor is obviously, well maybe I oughtn't say anything libellous but maybe his favourites are his favourites because they're team players? Sometimes great but often a pain in the bum - on and off the pitch - ain't going to please MM. I totally back him in this. Even if it seems a frustration.
