The Kit’s Out the Bag
Friday, 18th Apr 2014 09:19

Town’s new adidas away kit has been leaked online and as previously reported is a return to the orange worn on several occasions in the past.

The club put out a Twitter teaser for the new strip, which is due to be officially released on Monday, this morning but a number of fans found their way to other photos of it in full, including one where it is worn by Blues legend Frans Thijssen, who was back in Suffolk this week for an Evening With… event.

Town's director of retail operations, Lee Hyde, later explained the thinking behind the return to orange, initially worn late in the Sir Bobby Robson era and also during the 1991/92 and 1999/00 promotion campaigns amongst others.

“To be fair, we have been offered the choice of orange for the last three years but with the club joining up again with adidas for the first time in 25 years and the Dutch connection of those glory days with Arnold and Frans, it clicked into place," he told the official site.

“Whenever we speak to fans and gauge their opinions of what colours they like, orange comes out on top so we knew it would be a popular choice with the supporters.

“We have enjoyed some good seasons when we have worn the orange kit as our away colours and the club has had a fair few Dutch players down the years, some of them very popular, players like Martijn Reuser and Fabian Wilnis, as well as Arnold and Frans obviously.

“I also knew that with all due respect to the other brands, no one would do orange like adidas so with all that in mind and the history element of working again with adidas, it fitted perfectly.”

It’s not the first time Town kit has been leaked ahead of schedule. Last year, the Football League published both the Blues’ new kits on its official app ahead of Town’s planned release date.

There is a guide to pre-ordering both new kits on the club site here.

Love it. I even prefer this one to the 1989 Umbro and the 2000 & 2004 Punch ones. Quality!

I think they should have done the badge in black, but other than that- it looks nice. #WeAreOrange

The shorts should have been black too.

Think it looks really nice, and the home should be decent if this is anything to go by.

On a related note - I was intrigued as to how people had managed to find this image so I thought I'd go hunting myself. Well, let's just say its no wonder it got leaked! Three clicks I believe in total from the tweet to the full image. The club really need to try harder if they want to keep things under wraps.

I quite like it, maybe black shorts and black badge would be better as it would look more consistent with itself but other than that it's nice

It was deliberately made so easy to "leak" as this is good publicity and gets the fans talking on social media etc. Its all clever marketing.

Yeah it's ok, but shorts and badge should be in black as per early 80's I believe or was it late 70's? - is that Thijssen modelling it?

Actually, I do recall an early 80's third choice Orange Adidas strip - with black shorts. Anyone remember it?

Wonder what colour the socks are? Also, black badge would have been better, as has been said. Anyone think the badge looks small?

Sorry to be negative but I think it's absolutely awful. Ghastly orange. Not for me. Maybe I'm just getting old, but give me a classic white and black any day.

can not believe some people want a black badge, that use to really annoy me about the previous kits,to me the badge is sacred and should never be changed/altered and having said that I prefer the original badge which should never of been changed

Black shorts would look awful! Black badge would look better though I agree.

I don't like it, and I am not a fan of continually changing the away colours. We are the blue and white army, so for me we should be blue at home and white away.

Hopefully this is also a leak that Frans Thijssen is coming back to play for us again. We could use him.

I think it definitely needs black shorts as it just looks like a short sleeved goalkeeper top as it is. Perhaps a sign we've got another Dutchman on their way in the summer?

Would've preferred to be sponsored by Adnams or Aspalls and had Marcus Evans logo on the back of the shirt like continental teams do?

Can't believe people like this...it's awful

I like it just the way it is. To me too the badge should be sacrosanct and always be there - the same. I wonder if the original kit in the background is a leak of the new home kit?
