Foley to Return to Norwich as First-Team Coach
Thursday, 22nd May 2014 23:30

Town academy coach Steve Foley is set to return to Norwich City as new manager Neil Adams’s first-team coach. Like Adams, whose appointment was announced this afternoon, Foley will sign a three-year contract.

Foley, 60, previously worked at Carrow Road in a number of roles between 1996 and 2006, during which time he coached his new boss, having initially been brought to the club by Mike Walker.

After his Norwich contract as Nigel Worthington's first-team coach was terminated following the 2005/06 campaign, Jim Magilton added the former Colchester United stalwart to his Town staff in a specialist skills coach role.

Foley left the Blues in 2010 during Roy Keane’s time as boss but was brought back to the club by academy director Bryan Klug as a youth development coach in the summer of 2012 working with 12-16-year-olds.

Last season he was also coaching part-time with Ryman League Division One North Needham Market.

Brilliant Adams & Foley, may as we'll be Terry & June. 6 easy points for them this season, are we? Lol The Budgies are doomed :-)

Not too bothered as first team coach is a significantly more senior role than working with school kids. I'm sure we can get an adequate enough replacement and he can join the demolition crew at Carrot Rd.

What some strange stupid comments on this subject.
he is off to a club that must be favorites next year for a straight return to the premiership.

Unbelievably childish comments.

Steve Foley is a thoroughly good human being, who is actually a Colchester United supporter. He was a school friend of my late brother - in - law.

Foley is a good coach, but I trust B.K. and team to find an adequate replacement.

Not that i care but Adams appointment seems strange. Got be one of the early contenders for the sack next season. Can't see him making xmas tbh. Why didn't they go for an experienced manager like Mackay or Lennon its not like they can't afford their wages? The championship is a tough league to get out of and you need an experienced manager whose been there and don't it before. A good coach doesn't necessarily make a good manager.

Let's not make any judgements on Adams, people dismissing him so early is a dangerous thing to do. All good managers have to start somewhere, he could end up, for all we know, being one of the greatest managers of all time (unlikely granted).

Caution needed here guys, don't write off our yellow neighbours.

Steve Foley was football coach at my school with Roy Massey when they where both at Colchester. He's a top bloke & a football man through & through.
I cant wish him luck at Norwich but I certainly wish him no ill.
Thanks for your work at Portman Rd Steve.

As some have commented above, Steve is a good man, whose experience will help Norwich greatly. He was popular and successful at Norwich before he came here, but was made the scapegoat for Worthington's failure, and was the same again here before RK dispensed with his services. BK brought him back as soon as he came back himself. I wish Steve nothing but good luck and best wishes for the future, as long as he doesn't engineer any points from us next season.

I can't believe that Norwich have appointed Adams as manager when Malky Mackay is currently out of work. Didn't they learn from the Brian Gunn fiasco, or is Mackay holding out for a bigger club?

PS Am I right in thinking Adams once injured himself by jumping into an empty swimming pool? Does anyone else remember this, I think it was when he was playing at Oldham?

Not sure this affect us too much but some of the comments are a little harsh. Ive had numerous training sessions from Foley over the years at my local club and he is an excellent coach and i have learnt a hell of a lot from him. Genuinely nice bloke with a passion for coaching.

Wish him well but hope his sessions dont help the first team too much ; )

And im sure BK will find a suitable replacement. In BK we trust.

Stupidity , a lot of people last season werw saying what a good squad they had , asit turned out they got relegated. Anyone expecting them to struggle this season will be disapointed. Let's concentrate on what we are doing and leave them to get on with it.

As for Foley (any one else hear Axel F?) fair enough its a step up, im sure hes done a good job, im sure Big Mick knows someone else who will do a good job IMO (and according to some press reports) Adams got the job coz Malky wanted to much dough. Lennon is off to WBA (I think he would have been a bigger disaster) Zola's time at West Ham and Watford (plays pretty football but to prone to losing) meant the fans would lynch their useless board who are already on thin ice and Sherwood has just come though a mugging at Spurs and is not prepared to put his faith in the inept upper echelons of city (Plus Brighton is run by his mate) and City's board can only think outside the box on the back of a 5-0 hammering (which in itself was luck more than judgement, had they lost 1-0 Gunn would have kept his job a little longer and brought them even more grief)
