Manchester United Keeper Linked
Wednesday, 18th Jun 2014 21:13

Town, opening day opponents Fulham and Birmingham City are reported to be amongst the clubs keen on signing Manchester United keeper Sam Johnstone on loan.

Sky Sports claim the trio are considering making moves for the 21-year-old, who impressed while on loan at Doncaster Rovers last season.

Preston-born Johnstone came through the ranks at Old Trafford and has spent time on loan at Oldham, Scunthorpe, Walsall and Yeovil in addition to spending the second half of last season at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Capped by England at U16, U17, U19 and U20 level, Johnstone is contracted to the Red Devils until June 2017 having signed a new deal in January. Despite having made the first-team bench on two occasions, United are said to be willing to send the 6ft 3in tall keeper out on loan again next season.

Town boss Mick McCarthy seems certain to bring in another keeper ahead of the new season with Scott Loach having moved on to Rotherham.

Ideally, he would want a permanent addition to compete with Dean Gerken for the number one shirt but has said he is keen on loaning youngsters from Premier League clubs, expecting them to become available later on during the summer.

Would prefer a permanent signing and new number one. I really hope that we don't go back to relying on just loans, particularly as four peranent players have already left this pre season.

That'll do me. Use what little money we have for wages of players who'll be in the first team. We're not going to get better than Gerken for next season.

Here we go again, i,m totally p_ssed off with loans, we as a club will never progress with half the squad not ours, it just does not work, it a sticky plaster on a wound that will never heal! and thus the club stays stagnant,
i would rather a squad of our players playing for the shirt and pride in our club that is mid table than a squad doing better but not ours and likely to be recalled once we have helped the individual progress, grrr

Just media talk, personally I don't see the point unless he's going to start ahead of Gerken. There's no use in him coming here to warm the bench and I would rather see Crowe used as back-up, rather than someone elses player.

where is the logic in paying up loach's contract to make a loan signing to sit on the bench? and who can be recalled

if we had kept loach we would have saved a years salary and kept a perfect no2 goalkeeper.

MM is p*ddling around while most of our forwards can't score more than 2 goals in a season

Another mid table finish beckons, i predict at least 30% of the squad being loanee,s, Gerks is a good keeper not a great one, with Loach gone we need a either a first class number 1 or a decent back up, i can,t see us getting the former!
Our forwards just have not got it, Nouble will still not be able to hit my garage door with a wet cabbage at ten paces, Murphs is not clinical enough and goldrick will not be enough especially as our midfiled is not creative to give him the service he needs,
Looking at last season our defenders would seem to be more interested in scoring a few goals?
Another poor season ahead, mid table at best, a lousy start for us, and absolutely no new blood in as of yet, they SHOULD be in now, training and getting to know each others play! i can see a few humpings in those first games, which leaves an icy shiver,
Back to the loanee thing its not the answer never will be! AND WE NEVER LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKES!!

Karlsdad chill out, the players haven't returned yet so not sure why you want new ones in at the club on their own?!

Not sure a loan signing is the way forward - and unless he's actually going to play why would Utd allow him to come here? He won't develop sitting on a bench. Keiran Westwood would be my choice, released by Sunderland and a very good 'keeper who would provide excellent competition for Gerken. The other 'keeper who I wouldn't be surprised to see in a Town shirt next season (loan or permanent) is Stephen Henderson. 3rd choice at West Ham and we know MM's a big fan. Either of those 2 would do for me

Sorry, did I not see numerous posts at the end of the season talking about how good this bloke looked and how he exactly the sort of player we should sign? Now doom and gloom. I know Vinyl is making a come back but change the record ppl. Lets at least wait until kick off. If no one is in place then fine, whinge and moan as much as you like. I will join you.

I doubt MM et al are all sat around expecting players to grow on trees, I'm fairly sure they will be sounding out targets, talking to agents and all that jazz.

Christ its like suicidals anonymous in here

Camonbleu I agree about westwood, but sadly not henderson, who in my opinion is no better than gerken or loach. We need better than what we have got. Id even say almunia on a free

............. really !! ...... as if.

Can't believe this quote ; 'lets at least wait until kick off' !!!!????? - no wonder we are where we are, and likely to remain, with that attitude.

Typical example of lacking ambition, and desire to succeed.

So much doom and gloom, I'm looking forward to the new season, MM will add decent signings to an already decent squad, so stop spitting your dummies out the pram enjoy the summer start saving your pocket money and get down to portman road and support the team.....

I don't know why people are surprised at the loan situation, it's been made clear many times over the last couple of seasons that Evans will not be investing cash for players.

If we are going to be starved of cash, i'd rather play a team of academy products that are desperate to wear the shirt....couldn't care less if that's in the championship or league 1.

Doom and gloom what do you expect when you see our club waiting on dreagens from others to survive .The joke is on us ,get a bloody decent team together for this season for gods sake.I dont care were we finish up but get a balanced team on the pitch and see were we go from there. The transfer market at this club is not exceptable and when you see players going to other clubs I ask myself what the hell is going on..

Blueboy, all I am saying is until we kick off none of us actually know what the squad will look like. I am not going to whinge about something that is as yet not known. As I say if we reach the start of the season with the current squad, fine I'll join in your parrot like chorus but until then I'm not going to cry over unspilt milk.

Do you think the entire club is sat around shrugging their shoulder going well im sure some signing might turn up at the gates soon? I don't. I think things are happending and the vlub is trying to add to the squad.

Lets look at who has left- SEB left, but Marriot returned. Since you are are one of many who wants to see more of Marriot this should please you? Why are you whingeing (especially since SEB was not fit for his entire stay with us that loss looks rather less worrying)

Richardson Left, Hewitt (and Veseli) returned since you are one of many who wants to see more of Hewitt this should please you? What are you whingeing about.

Hunt Left, Hensahall offered terms, Henshall being the sort of young player you keep demanding, why are you whingeing.

Loach and Green fair enough, but Loach is no better than Gerks and Green is hardly loss off the year.

You are getting more hysterical than a housewife who has just caught her husband cheating with a giant spider.

I for one will wait to see if there is reason to vilify people before actually doing so, a more measured approach if you will. If you prefer to blow your load early that's up to you but the deadline is kick of on the 1st game of the season and so that is when I shall judge.

Do I want players in? yes. am I prepared to show patientence and humility? yes

BlueandTruesince82 .................. you pays your money ??? ... and takes your choice, as indeed I DO - and have done so for more years than I care to remember as a Season Ticket holder.

What I expect, for my money from the Club, is AMBITION and PROGRESS - the length of time we have graced !! ... the Championship, would indicate a question marks needs putting against both.
This I duly apply.

Bottom line is : Some expect NOTHING (Satisfied Charlie's) - Some expect LITTLE - Others expect MORE, of which I am proud to be one.

In Mid Table Mediocre Mick we have to Trust I guess - for now. Time will ultimately be the telling point.
