Nigeria Go Through Monday, 28th Jan 2002 19:54 Finidi George and Nigeria have qualified for the second phase of the African Nations' Cup after winning their group. The Super Eagles beat Liberia 1-0 in Mopti this evening. Nigeria are now likely to meet South Africa in the next phase of the competition. Finidi played a more orthodox role on the right-hand side of midfield, but was quieter than in previous matches. His major contribution to the game was a first half penalty which was saved by Liberian keeper Crayton. He later hit a shot just wide of the post before being substituted after 65 minutes. Nigeria's winner was scored by Julius Aghahowa, who only managed six somersaults in his goal celebration this time around. The match marked Liberian superstar George Weah's last appearance in international football.
