Mauritian International On Trial
Sunday, 20th Jul 2014 17:29

Mauritian international midfielder Kévin Bru is joining the Blues on trial this week, according to various reports in France.

Paris-born Bru, a 25-year-old free agent, was a youth player with IFF Clairfontaine and Rennes, where he made his break into senior football when he made two Ligue 1 sub appearances in the 2006/07 season.

Set-piece expert Bru, who is 6ft tall, continued his career in the French second division, spending time on loan at Châteauroux and Clermont Foot before joining Dijon FCO on a permanent basis in January 2010. He moved on to US Boulogne a year later and then spent 2012/13 with FC Istres.

Last season, after a reported €250,000 move, he scored one goal in 26 appearances in Bulgaria with Levski Sofia, with whom he played twice in the Europa League, before leaving at the end of the campaign.

Having won U18 and U19 caps with France, Bru switched international allegiance in 2011 and has won two caps with Mauritius. His older brother Jonathan has also played international football for Mauritius and is also a free agent having been released by the Melbourne Victory in January.

Boss Mick McCarthy gave his squad the weekend off but the players are due back at Playford Road on Tuesday to continue their pre-season preparations ahead of Wednesday’s friendly at Colchester (KO 7.30pm).

Meanwhile, former Blues loanee Stephen Henderson will join Charlton having left West Ham by mutual consent.

Two things:

1) We paid no money in transfer fees for our better players last season (McGoldrick, Berra, Murphy). We've spent big money in the past for duds. Large fees do not necessarily equal player quality.

2) We don't need a "creative, goalscoring midfielder", we need a "creative midfielder". Leave goalscoring to the forwards, it's their job - we need someone to provide the service.

1 goal in 26 appearances and yet he is described as a "set piece expert". How?

Still at 6 ft tall even if he can't jump he will be better at heading a ball than Nouble.

He's free and only on trial, we haven't signed him yet. If he's not up to it then no harm done and who knows we have unearthed a gem.

Jason0999 - Has to be said - the same old .... are on here again agreeing with all and everything the Club does.

We're not allowed to challenge anything - THAT'S WHY WE ARE WHAT WE ARE AS A CLUB - AND PROBABLY ALWAYS WILL BE.

Another 12 years in the Championship (or worse) would suit some of these people fine, and they'd still be satisfied with EVERYTHING.

Well if he has played for Dijon FCO, he must be Mustard!
Sorry I could not resist that comment.

Hope he's better than his brother. Watched him play for Melbourne victory last couple of seasons and he really wasn't very good.

There are few players coming out of the A League that would be worth a look:
Adama Traore (right back, just moved to Europe, real class), Luke Brattan (attacking midfield, Brisbane), Youssouf Hersi - (midfield - Western Sydney Wanderers), James Troisi (attacking midfield, Victory) Marcelo Carrusca (midfield - Adelaide), Gui Finkler (midfielder - victory).

It's hard to know if these players would be any good in the Championship, but they're all very good players in the A League, which is improving year on year.

Charlton have signed a good keeper there.

Having read the trialist's CV I'm rather underwhelmed at the prospect tbh :( :(

If we are looking at players like this then things are worse than I thought, Seriously though COME ON, I remember the days when we spent £6 million on Mateo serini and £4 million on Herman heridason and now look at us, This is what you call scraping the barrel!!

@ormey75

Spending £6m on players like Matteo Sereni is why we're £80m in debt and can no longer afford yo buy any decent players. It's depressing but unfortunately we're not in anything like the good condition that we were 12 years ago.

Agree with Aussieblue

Seen Luke Brattan play twice- he should be the kind of player we have on trial. Know nothing of this guy Bru...

That is partly why we went in to administration ?? wasting money on the likes of Mateo Sereni and others whose names are a distant memory now, thank goodness !!

Why all the moans? The deadline is nothing like over. Nobody has heard of Bru, who may or may not be on trial, so it's a bit daft to comment: though I'm going to anyway - I like his name, bring him on! Let's trust MM here, he's signed a nice new contract, he's obviously got something in mind. This is the first time this century that the club has in place something that sounds like Sheepshanks' 5 year plan.

These "loans" rarely come to anything, and I doubt this one will be any different. But no harm in having a look.

I wonder if Steve Foley can muster up any Trialists from the Caymen Islands this week ???

Perhaps we could all wait and see how his trial turns out, and what MM actually thinks of him before pre-judging him from his CV. MM has a decent reputation at unearthing gems - i'm sure Wolves fans weren't salivating at the signings of Matt Jarvis and Michael Kightly but i'm fairly sure they weren't complaining 2 or 3 seasons down the line

jas0999 and others. yes, we were told that the money would be used to bring in new players, and that is whats happening. at no point did anyone at the club actually say that the money would be used for transfer fees. whether we sign some1 for a fee or on the so called "free", we will be paying out a fair amount of money. as ive said to people on here many times now, if there is no transfer fee for a player then you still have to pay agents fees, plus a significant signing on fee goes to the player. even if you sign a player on loan nowadays you pay a fee to the club you loaning him from too, so as the club have stated ,the money is being used to strengthen the squad. have to say, that like many, I did presume it could mean we might pay the odd transfer fee, but wasn't what was said.

I don't really see the problem with him. He doesn't score goals but if you have a look at his Video CV the way he plays is something we need. All of you who we're moaning about us playing sideways too much in midfield last season should take a look. It seems to me he plays in the hole between defence and midfield or between midfield and attack and is always looking to play a forward pass. I'd guess he get quite a few assists.

I agree with fat boy, I'm bored so spent 10 mins of my life watching a player will prob never sign. this guy looks tidy on the ball and is capable of replacing either hyam or scuse because he's not the same type of player!

Comments on here are pathetic you can't be proper fans just trolls, arm chair supporters and wannabe know it all football managers, stupid comments from muppets. Start supporting the club if your proper fans, rather than moaning and whinging!

blue-moon09 .................. if that's all you can come up with - I suggest you don't bother.

Just keep being satisfied 'happy chappie' - and stew in your obviously contented juice.

@blueboy1981 - How exactly do you manage to see the very worst in everything? I really don't understand it...

J4ck22 .................. maybe you should read - and understand what's read more.

Had you done that - you wouldn't have needed to ask that Question.

Blueboy1981 - Maybe you should actually explain instead of dodging the question. I've read your comments enough.
