French Striker Hints at Town Trial Monday, 21st Jul 2014 21:40
French striker Achille Campion has hinted that he is on trial with the Blues.
The 24-year-old spent a fortnight on trial with Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the month before joining up with Yeovil at the weekend and scoring in a friendly against Reading.
Born in Levallois, 6ft 4in tall Campion was with USL Dunkerque as a youngster before moving to the US and joining Baton Rouge Capitals and college side the Belhaven Blazers.
A spell with the University of California, Santa Barbara followed, during which time he was eyed by MLS scouts, before he briefly joined fourth tier Swedish side Norrby IF earlier in the year.
Town already have Hungarian striker Bálint Bajner and French-Mauritian midfielder Kévin Bru on trial this week.

No harm in giving players trials. The only things that concern me are that Sheffield Wednesday don't want him and not do Yeovil. Also he hasn't got much of a cv. I mean the fourth year of Swedish football!! But I really don't mind giving players trails. Never know it might be a MM gem!!
COACHES' BREAKDOWN: "Very good with back to goal, holding ball up ... got good size. Has some ability on ball ... Injured a lot but when he was there he always produced goals ... got some quality ... Kid definitely scored goals when on field but missed a lot of games as well. Movement and feet very good. Found spaces in the box and could finish when he got opportunities ... He's not a superstar. But goal scorers are always a premiium. ... Size and touch... Strong. Runs well. Holds the ball up well. Good in the air. Has a mean streak. Can serve a ball from wide, and thread passes forward. Can be cheeky, sometimes too cheeky ... Battler. Athlete. Makes good runs. High soccer IQ. French. Flashy, but not always terribly efficient. "He fancies himself." If he committed himself to being a target striker, he'd be unstoppable, but he chases the game so that he can get on the ball for longer stretches. He floats wide, drifts into midfield, takes some stepovers to show off his dribbling. When he decides to destroy CBs, he can. He's used to pro-style coaching: "He just needs to be told what to do to earn a paycheck." ... Great at holding ball. Good finisher. Never reached full potentnial because of hurt. Great player."
Worth remembering Shefki had a far from impressive CV before arguably his best two seasons of his career with us. Always worth looking at rough diamonds!
I dont think we need another big man. Murph does that job ok. We need somebody to play off Murph. We keep saying we need a creative midfielder who scores goals, im my opinion Didz could play there with ease. Play a quick man up top with Murph coming in from the left, and Stewart on the right with Skuse and Hyam/Wordsworth mopping up in front of the back four. Solid with a bit of creativity thrown in. Its just getting that quick little finisher to play right up top that we'd need. Marriott maybe?
I have no idea if he's going to impress or not but if we are serious about a promotion bid and we are going to play with a target man (not saying we are but we are having a few on trial) then we need backup if Murphy gets injured.its not good enough to say we've got Murph so let's move onto something else.
Couple of vids from the US on you tube. No clue how to post them from my Android. Not the best quality vids and hard to tell given the opposition. Couple of good finishes. Stuart Gray got him in on a tip. Thats all I know
Wow he looks ten times the player of the last guy. Well from the clips anyway. Oh and my theory with Murphy was that he isn't getting any older and this will be his last season at good enough.
I have this feeling that we will not be seeing much of McGoldrick. Couple of weeks away from the start of what will be a very important season and our leading striker is still not fit enough. More to the knee issues than the club are saying maybe!!
Theycallmecrook: From the coaches breakdown, he sounds like Frank Nouble (big, strong athletic), but with goals!! I like the fact that he is described as having a high football IQ. I believe that Didsy has this as well. This could well be worth a punt. If it worked it would be like the days when we had Bent & Kuki up front.
Don't take any notice of the knockers on here. MM & TC are looking for cut price gems & if anyone can find them, it will be them.
Its just a trial, we have our first team strikers sorted. I think MM has back up in mind if Marriot goes out on loan, we sell Taylor and/or we have an injury to (Murphs /Dids/ Frank/ Marriot). Loan players will not come here to be back up so MM going this route for a back up is probably the best option we have.
Just looking at the clips above, and I appreciate this is quite an unscientific way of judging him, but the standard is clearly WAY below the Championship. The marking is appalling, the goalkeepers look abysmal and the time he gets on the ball in no way reflects what he would get at ITFC. I suspect he only looks decent because of this.
