French Striker Hints at Town Trial
Monday, 21st Jul 2014 21:40

French striker Achille Campion has hinted that he is on trial with the Blues.

The 24-year-old spent a fortnight on trial with Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the month before joining up with Yeovil at the weekend and scoring in a friendly against Reading.

Campion has kept his Twitter followers up with his movements while in the UK and this evening enigmatically tweeted “Ipswich Town”.

Born in Levallois, 6ft 4in tall Campion was with USL Dunkerque as a youngster before moving to the US and joining Baton Rouge Capitals and college side the Belhaven Blazers.

A spell with the University of California, Santa Barbara followed, during which time he was eyed by MLS scouts, before he briefly joined fourth tier Swedish side Norrby IF earlier in the year.

Town already have Hungarian striker Bálint Bajner and French-Mauritian midfielder Kévin Bru on trial this week.

Well,he looks like a decent finisher, let's hope something good comes from it...will we have to provide cheerleaders when he runs onto the pitch?

It worries me slightly that we appear to be looking at big players who work hard rather than creativity or goals scored .
MM stated himself that Nouble was selected a number of times last season for his defensive abilities at set pieces and physical presence , if we want to kick on this year we need players who can create and score

"Campion-y, Campion-y, ole, ole, ole."
That's the chant sorted out.
Just need the goals now.

Achille Campion didn't play in Sweden fourth tier: He joined Norrby IF- Sweden in late March to play for them in Third Tier, which is League one Sweden.
Apparently he is trying to play at a higher level, taking advantage of the summer break and going through try outs in UK.
He is also reported to have graduate from UC Santa Barbara - Calirfornia just three weeks ago; he was captaining this Div I NCAA Team.
So he was a college soccer player, not a pro player.
That's the explanation of his age and the lack of pro-games under his belt.
As for his football level, the only clue we have is that Sheffield Wednesday gave him 15 days, which is a lot for a try out... although they didn't sign him....!
As for Yeovil, his try out seems to be a success and he may have left early to come to town... http://www.westerngazette.co.uk/French-Striker-Campion-trial-Yeovil/story-216617

Although Campion scored against Reading for Yeovil, the Royals didn't post his goal on their website... Still they made available one of his attempt with a fantastic save from the goalie.. Soft touch for a big striker...

I actually think he looks decent, can't knock the level he was playing at, you can either score goals or you can't

The fact that we are looking for strikers suggests to me that McGoldrick will not be fit for some time which is very worrying. Just hope the injury is not career threatening but is must be a concern.

Sheff Wed didn't want him because he wasn't tall enough to cope with their hoof ball tactics.
