McCarthy: Taylor Can Leave
Saturday, 2nd Aug 2014 17:33

Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that striker Paul Taylor is available for transfer or loan having been left out of the Blues’ 21-man squad at Leyton Orient today.

“He’s available for transfer or loan. He won’t be playing for me,” McCarthy said afterwards. “He’s not for me.

"That was made clear at the end of last season, so I’m not saying anything that I haven’t already said and it’s not ‘shock, horror, that’s a good story’ because that was the case last season.

“I thought that I’d have a look at it, assess it. He came back really fit, he’s a had a go, but he’s just not for me.”

Taylor, 26, joined Town from Peterborough for an initial fee of £1.5 million in the summer of 2012 but, having suffered a serious foot injury soon after signing, has been unable to break into the first team on a regular basis.

I see a lot of probably maybe's it could be's about Taylor. MM doesn't like him better he's off to a club whose Manager does. I am not going to say if it is right or wrong it's Mzm's team so his decision end of. As for this in Mick we trust that is defenatly not for me. He has this season to prove me wrong and change my mind. And I hope he does.

MM has been very canny getting Taylor motivated, fit and into a state where someone else might want to take him off our hands.

The sooner he moves on, the better it will be for all parties.

He's not a team player for Town, he obviously has skill but maybe can't integrate with all the other players on the pitch. If he causes bad feeling in other players by giving them 'a look' when they haven't run for a pass or delivered a ball where he wants that's not good for the team
Good luck Taylor hope it works out elsewhere.

@monkeyblue he would got shot of Messi 'cos he din't do the "dirty stuff"
The likes of Messi and before him Zola wouldn't get a look in with McCarthy, he wouldn't know how to handle a striker with so much talent and so little height.

Unkind comments from Mick, Paul Taylor was never given a fair chance after he returned from injury, ie. under Mick, even though he was awarded man of the match at least once in his few short appearances, I saw Paul Taylor's three games with us prior to his injury absence and was very impressed by his skill, I really believed, and still do, that Mick never wanted him and used any and every excuse to not include him, for me that is not good management, I also find Mick's comments to be arrogant and rude, I really hope that Paul gets with a decent team and a manager who is capable of getting the best from him, he could well come back to haunt us.

Look at how devicive he is on here. Imagine that mutiplied and intensified in the dressing room. I think this has very little to do with being given a faur chance on the pitch and much more to do with the numerous ones bliwn off it. Last of the trouble makers gone. Good.

@bluetone. Messi performs regularly. Taylor infrequently. You're comparing apples and oranges.

@roytheboy - I think you're right in some respects (that the manager never really wanted Paul Taylor), but MM is the boss and he decides who he's going to work with. Far from being arrogant or rude (anyone who's read Mick McCarthy's post-match interviews will know he can be extremely direct if he wants to be), MM has avoided overly personal criticism and has gone out of his way to emphasise how well PT has trained in pre-season and how fit he is as well as offering a simple 'he's not for me' as the reason for the transfer listing.
So - a player MM no longer wants to work with is made available with no big drama and no suggestion of physical problems or personal animosity. Sound man management, if you ask me. Any offers?

I'll be very happy for Taylor to leave: best for him and best for us. The really annoying part is that we´ll end up "terminating his contract," having thrown away £1.5m for virtually nothing in return.

1 goal in 24 appearces plus a couple of assists. Nouble has better goal recird and a better creative one I would reckon

After the Vaselli thread, I've avoided this one so far. PT has polarised opinion on here and I can't say I'm particularly happy. Like many others I wish it could have turned out better for him but the relationship between a player and a football manager has to be based on mutual respect, trust and a professional confidence in each other as well as a commitment to working together to achieve agreed goals. It is clear that any kind of working relationship between MM & PT has broken down; how often does a manager publicly state that a player is 'not for him'? For me, that spells the end of the line for the player; after all the manager chooses the people he wants to work for him and that is the way it should be. While MM is the manager he must have absolute control over the playing staff with the final word on who plays and for how many minutes. When results start to go wrong no doubt more people will quickly join the clever dicks in claiming that the solution to all our problems will be a change in manager. However, it has not gone wrong yet and for the moment MM deserves to be supported. That includes supporting him for moving on a player however talented, that he considers to be surplus to requirements.

Yet we still keep Tabb and Nouble! At least Taylor had a bit of flair about him which a run in the team would only improve. He'll go out on loan, as no team is going to pay for him, and we'll continue to pay a percentage of his wages. What a waste.

We can debate all we like but we will never truly know if he could have been any good for us as he was never given a chance to show what he can do.
For me thats the sad part of it, we paid 1.5 mill for a player and we never got the chance to see if he had it in him, never had the chance to judge for ourselves.
I fear the same situation may happen with Hewitt and Marriott, i hope im wrong.
I believe Mick is a great man manager for the players he likes, but if you are a bit different then you might aswell pack your bags.

@thebeat
Personally I would not be at all surprised if Jack was the next player for McCarthy to say about "he is not my sort of player" just a feeling.

hardly a surprise but another thing i disagree with mick on.
taylor is a creative attacking player but mick likes to play mostly 442 long ball.
he didant like JET but loves nouble and tabb.
I cant see MM changing his style after all these years so while hes hear a cant see players like taylor flourishing here and unfortunately its long ball defensive football from here on in.
still follow the town but hate the current style and tactics

I don't understand why some fans including Mr Beattie has it in for Marriott and Hewitt, although not having Category One Academy Status does put this into perspective with a very real threat of losing our most promising youngsters for nothing in the longer term.

I hope Taylor is the last 'white Elephant' the club will sign as we can't go on spending like this :(

As for Nouble who I enjoy watching in a Town shirt and Tabb who played well against Orient on Saturday has his uses but for me the most interesting thing will be trying to predict who our favoured strike partership will be this term.

Mcgoldrick is not fit to start yet so it looks like Bajner or Nouble partnering Murph for the Season opener against the Cottages..??

The divergence of opinion on here perhaps reflects the divergence of opinion on MM, rather than Taylor...which ever way you cut it, loosing the value of a £1.5m asset, that has depreciated rather more quickly than it should have done, doesn't reflect well on MM...he has done nothing to protect the investment, whatever Taylor has or hasn't done or delivered....so yes, £1.5m down the pan...and yes Mick, I think you carry the can because you have done nowt to protect the value...when a manager of your stature says, "He's not for me" that is a damning appraisal and pretty much scares off any purchase of the asset ....foolish..

budgieplucker added 00:41 - Aug 4
I think you may find part of the fee for Taylor was based on appearances. I suspect that hasn't been reached and this decision is largely about protecting that extracash leaving the club plus trying to get the remaining big wage earner of the books. Ultimately he is a big expense for the club and if he is unlikely in MM eyes to make an impact worth that value then it really is a case of MM getting the best out of the budget he has available and trying to move PT on.

Kirbmeister added 08:55 - Aug 4
If Taylor was any good another club would have signed him by now -he's been on the transfer list for long enough!
I guarantee that the main reason MM doesn't like him is for the sort of person Taylor is off the pitch.
