Taylor Joins Rotherham On Loan
Thursday, 14th Aug 2014 17:58

Striker Paul Taylor has joined Rotherham United on a half-season loan, subject to the paperwork being ratified. The 26-year-old was made available for transfer by Blues boss Mick McCarthy at the end of last season.

Millers manager Steve Evans told their club site that the switch came about very quickly with other sides after the ex-Peterborough man: “I only heard last night that Paul was in talks with two fellow Championship clubs in relation to joining them on a long term loan.

“I quickly spoke to my chairman and within minutes our chief executive spoke with Marcus Evans at Ipswich Town. Within an hour I was given permission to talk with the player as a financial arrangement had been agreed with both clubs.

“After talking to the player it became very evident to me that he had a preference to join Rotherham United. In turn I asked the player to sleep on his options and I was delighted to receive a call first thing this morning to say the player still wanted to be a Miller.

“I am not going to say what this player can bring to our squad, in simple terms his performances will demonstrate that to our supporters.

“He is a lad who like every other player we have signed in recent times has a point to prove and from my conversation with him he cannot wait to get started.

“I would expect us to add further to our squad within next few days, I will add nothing else.”

Taylor added: “I am delighted to have signed for Rotherham United and I am really looking forward to this exciting challenge.

“After talking with Steve Evans and [assistant manager] Paul Raynor it became clear to me very quickly that this was a club going places and I wanted to be part of what was happening here.

“I’ve been down to New York Stadium this afternoon and I was extremely impressed with what I saw which made the decision to sign even easier.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for me to join a good club with fantastic support and I just cannot wait to put on the Rotherham shirt and do my best for the club.”

Taylor was signed from Posh for an initial £1.5 million - potentially rising to £2.5 million - in the summer of 2012 but missed virtually all of his first season at Portman Road after suffering a serious foot injury in his third game for the Blues.

Following his return, he found his opportunities limited under McCarthy's management with the Town boss saying in April that he's "not my type" and that he was not in his plans.

Overall, the Liverpudlian, who spent time back at Peterborough on loan last season, has made just nine starts - the last at Crawley on Tuesday - and 16 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring once.

Taylor, whose Town contract is up next summer, joins ex-Town keeper Scott Loach and former loanees Paul Green and Frazer Richardson at the New York Stadium.

Good luck Paul - do well and find a club that appreciates you and gives you a proper task.

The next one to be told "he is not my type of player by McCarthy? Jack Marriott. Never mind we still have the threat of Nouble. :)

No one knows what goes on in training. Maybe Taylors application to work and train and turn up on time does not exist.

Personally glad to see him go. There is ability in him but for some reason he did not want to bust a gut for the team and can we really afford to have passengers in the side.

Think MM has something up his sleeve as a replacement. Would love it to be Williams and I think he would come back given the chance

Our small squad getting smaller by the week and I agree with above Marriott will be next because he is not up to championship level yet.No goals Nouble still here I rest my case.We need to strengthen our squad as I assume we have saved a bit on Taylors wages but I wont hold my breath .

Hope there is a clause where he cannot play against us.Otherwise mm might get his bum burnt.
Nouble next please.

Good Luck Paul, and at this rate this Rotherham match is looking like a tasty occasion where we have given all our cast offs to the newly promoted side. I am sure the gaffer knows what he is doing and I stay confident that a few additions will make their way to Portman Road in the next few months

Silly lad for doing what he did, it certainly marked him down in my book, but it may have been so different if he he had not had that injury so early on in his ITFC episode.
At that time he looked the breath of fresh air, to breathe life into a stunted team, but never mind the motm awards he got when he did put in a shift and got a chance to play. Maybe that he's a right knob of a man and player, I don't know him and neither does a vast amount of people on here.
If he had no application in training does that make him a bad player.
Who in their right mind would have loaned out and got rid of Alan Hunter because of non application in training, Not Sir Bobby Robson, but Hunter was pure gold on the pitch.
With the amount we paid out for him and several other players fans should expect to get a fair return, but perhaps the people you should be venting your spleens at are the managers who brought them into this club, and were happy to spend/waste ME's millions.

..said my piece plenty of times ...so no more.....let's hope he now rips the championship apart and come January we at least get some money for him....is this the last big expensive player that we see no return on????....even a couple of hundred would pay for a years salary of a decent championship player......and for goodness sake get a sell on clause!!!!!!

"Taylor was signed from Posh for an initial £1.5 million - potentially rising to £2.5 million"

I didn't know / had forgotten / had blanked out from my mind that the fee could rise to £2.5M! That explains a lot, as giving Taylor more of a chance could have cost us another £1M then if milestones were met. I somehow think Mick could better spend that money!

As for the Rotherham match being tasty, surely Taylor will not be allowed to play in that one.

As mentioned not surprised he's gone out on loan but to another Championship club!?! - please. We struggle enough against the 'smaller' clubs in this division as it is without sending a player who will try his all to prove McCarthy wrong.
Interesting too to note that 2 other clubs in the division apart from Rotherham were interested in him, perhaps they are more attack oriented than us?

Lets see how Taylor does between now and Christmas, the way a lot of you big him up he should get at least 7 goals.

Bedsitfc say exactly the same as most, albeit more to the point, and gets negged. But we get him gone ASAP or use him, from mm I assume it's get shot

The best of luck Paul, you have been given a rough time by MM, damm shame as you have so much talent,
Just cannot believe we have let him out on loan so a flair player gone and we keep Nouble, Big Frank should be arrested for being a con man! fraud as a footballer, nil talent, nil flair, and cannot hit a barn door at ten paces, yes he runs around alot but so does my dog! but at least he can read a ball in flight! lol

The comments where people are saying Taylor doesn't work hard enough it seems that they haven't seen him play, everytime he's played he's been one of the hardest working out there, always tracking back and is one of the fittest in the squad. Taylor is gone purely because MM and him do not see eye to eye and is most likely a bad egg. Nothing to do with his work rate or ability.

I don't wish Taylor ill, hope he goes on to have great success in his future career.

BUT

I'm quite glad he's gone, because things clearly weren't working with him here. Bags of energy, but no end product. Only the one goal in 25 appearances (over 1,000 minutes of football).

Better he goes on elsewhere and tries to fulfil his potential.

Mark posted above about the gap between £1.5 and £2.5 million. I have made reference to this on approx. 4 other occasions on this topic when posting. I believe MM's decision is highly influenced on the basis that he doesn't want to spend another £1 million on Taylor should milestones be reached. Yes the player may not be in the MM mould, yes he may have been a bit of a bad boy - this baggage came with him blame Jewel for that. The lad has talent and he does try, its just that the financial circumstances and him being a top earner now mean this is largely a business decision. Whatever the lad tried to do he wasn't going to succeed here. I don't blame MM, it must have been really frustrating for the lad as he probably had no real idea what he needed to do to get his career back on track. Like many of today's footballers he might not be the brightest of the bunch but I wish him well as I think he is as much a victim of circumstances rather than the lazy to**er that many want to portray him as.

One thing for sure the truth will out one day and then you,ll all know what the real reason was with him I,m 100% with MM leave big frank alone .Without McCarthy & Connor and Mr Evans this club would be in a very sorry state . Let's hope we get some reinforcements soon I,m sure the club is trying hard to make this happen

Quote "Who in their right mind would have loaned out and got rid of Alan Hunter because of non application in training, Not Sir Bobby Robson, but Hunter was pure gold on the pitch."

Alan (and Kevin Beattie) used to sneak away for a crafty fag during training and this was turned a blind eye to by Sir Bobby I know 'cos I saw it happen. McCarthy would have them both out for non application in training and not being his type of player. That's the difference between Sir Bobby and a run of the mill manager.

Very glad that's sorted! And I reckon MM will bring in someone else instead, probably on loan. If so, it's a win-win situation for all concerned.

Is it the rising to 2.5 million clause along with the ABH, wages etc that stops MM giving a run of games.
It will be interesting to see how he gets on.
