McCarthy Looking For Taylor Replacement
Thursday, 14th Aug 2014 19:45

Town manager Mick McCarthy says he’s looking for an additional striker now that Paul Taylor has moved on to Rotherham United. The 26-year-old has joined the Millers on a half-season loan.

“With Tayls there until January, I hope to bring someone in as a replacement,” McCarthy told the club site.

“My stance hasn’t changed from last season and Tayls needs to go out and play games.

“If he plays regularly and gets some momentum going, then he may get back whatever it was he had before.

“Let’s hope he does, for him and for us. If he does then there might still be a home for him here, although I doubt it very much under me but we might be able to sell him on.”

Taylor’s departure has triggered perhaps inevitable speculation regarding the possible return of ex-loanee Jonny Williams, the Crystal Palace man having been spotted watching Tuesday’s game at Crawley.

Speaking after that match McCarthy said nothing should be read into his presence at the tie: “He’s come to watch the game, I’ve not had any discussions about him with anybody else. He’s come to watch his mates play, I would imagine.”
