Quartet Linked With Williams
Sunday, 7th Sep 2014 11:17

Town face competition from Bolton, Watford and Fulham for the loan signature of Jonny Williams, according to one of this morning’s papers.

The Sunday People reports that the 20-year-old Crystal Palace man, who spent a successful spell with the Blues last season, is interesting the four Championship clubs, who are able to sign players on loans of up to 93 days from Tuesday.

Town are believed to have been offered Williams on a half-season loan as part of the proposed Tyrone Mings move to Selhurst Park on deadline day, but Palace manager Neil Warnock subsequently indicated may hang on to the Wales international to give him a chance to prove himself with the Premier League side.

Elsewhere, The Sun is linking the Blues with a loan move for Sunderland striker Danny Graham.

The 29-year-old is out of Black Cats manager Gus Poyet’s plans and last season was sent out on loan to Hull City and then back to his first club Middlesbrough, for whom he scored twice in the Teessiders’ 2-0 victory over the Blues at the Riverside in March.

The former England U20 international striker was previously reported to be interesting Charlton and Wolves.

Graham, who joined Sunderland from Swansea for £5 million in January 2013, is paid a reported £30,000 a week at the Stadium of Light and if the Blues are interested they would be looking to pay only a fraction of that wage.

The Gateshead-born striker, who is contracted to Sunderland until 2016, has also been with Carlisle and Watford and had loan stints early in his career with Darlington, Derby, Leeds and Blackpool, as well as an initial temporary spell with the Cumbrians.

Not worried about competition from them other clubs. Think he enjoyed himself enough to choose us over them. The Danny Graham link is an interesting one as he's not a typical McCarthy kind of player.

No thanks on the Graham link same as we already have Mcgoldrick apart cant see the barn door let alone hit it. Williams would be a worthwhile addition if it happens which i doubt.

So Sunderland paid £5M + £30,000 a week for a striker who hasn't since scored a single goal for them? It shows how crazy the transfer market is. He did have a good record before that though, so could be worth bringing in if Sunderland are willing to continue paying most of his wages. We certainly do need more fire power.

I don't know what factors are taken into account when a player decides where to move on loan, but surely we have positives over the other three teams mentioned here.

He is virtually guaranteed a starting place in a stable and settled club, having played here before. We also have a manager and assistant manager who will work on coaching and developing his skills, especially his goal scoring. That strike against Derby didn't happen by accident.

It is wishful thinking, I know, but there are genuine question marks against the other contending teams. Bolton are struggling. He may struggle to get a regular starting place at Watford and Fulham isn't exactly an ideal training environment at the moment.

Re Harry: Not to mention of course that he's already acquainted with us, and supposedly enjoyed his previous spell here. Going anywhere else is stepping into the unknown by comparison - especially given all three of those clubs are going through comparative instability, either with recent or likely impending managerial changes...

Even so, part of me doubts he will be coming back. There's a lot of talk going on but I won't be getting excited about it until there's some action.

Sign him up now. It's almost certain he will come here as he had a great time last season.Get him in the team to play Millwall next week please MM,as for Graham,he is not any better than what we already have so why throw good money down the drain.Stick with what we have .!

Is it me or are bloody Fulham trying to get hold of everyone with a bit of quality about them? - Personally I wouldn't go there, they're a team in free fall. Would like to have seen him come here on a season long loan but that opportunity has gone and would be surprised if Crystal Palace let him go anyway.
As for Graham - well talking about free fall, a player that has totally lost his confidence between the sticks.

Of course he would choose us over the others given the choice - but the others would be able to offer to pay a greater percentage of his wages, so assuming his parent Club have a say in the matter we can't be too confident unfortunately. Fingers crossed though - from a personal and developmental perspective we have an advantage I would think.

^^I'm never confident a player would choose us over another Club, given the choice would he not want to stay in London? It's just a loan after all, so why the upheaval even if it's only a 70 odd mile upheaval..

But we live in hope..

Graham is a good player, for the right wages. Better than Sammon and Bajner in my opinion.

If we lose out on Williams, then I sincerely hope we have a plan B. We desperately need this type of attack minded midfield player.

I think Joniesta would prefer to come to us. We gave him good memories last season and the unique Town shirt with Joniesta on the back! How could he refuse us over the others?

Its in the bag (I hope)!

Fingers crossed on these two, Williams knows us so you have to have a bit of hope (Hope is of course every football fans downfall!). Graham would be an exceptional player at championship level, he's scored for fun at Swansea before he lost his mojo a bit but a spell in the Championship could well be the spark he needs (A DJ Campbell loan spell!).

Id have thought we would have the edge because he's already been here and clearly loved his time here.

Williams will go to Fulham.

The club have to bring some invention and creativity to our midfield. Lets see if the talk of using the transfer fee from Aaron Cresswell's move to West Ham was just that....All talk!!. Theres been talk lately of players dropping down a league to find their level ie Frank Nouble, so maybe Danny Graham might be proof of that.

Read that Quinn at Hull is available for loan. Decent player. Would do a good job for us.

I think Graham would depth to the squad as he would work well if McGoldrick becomes (god forbid) injured. He could work well off the shoulder of one of the big lads up front (Murphy, Sammon or Bajner) as a plan B.

Not sure if MM will try to hard for Williams as he has Dids and I don't believe he would have come here last season apart from injury , I personally don't think MM will accomadate the two in the same team . I would rather have Graham than our options up front for sure think he will be a good signing in this league , obviously both would be great .

How far we have fallen being outbid now for loan players.
Forget this market build with our youngsters may be bottom end but the future beckons. But no -looking forward to Salmon and Hunt starting !!!

I would love to see Jonny back with us but there is one niggling thought in my mind. Palace might not let him come back because we knocked them back with Tyrone Mings.
Just because Graham hasn't scored recently, doesn't mean he wouldn't try and bag a few for a loan club to put himself in the shop window again. Look at Big Frank!

Let's hope we pull out the stops & get Williams, would love to see him in centre mid linking up with McG.

As for Graham, he was a goal machine at Watford, it just hasn't worked out for him at his last two clubs, like it didn't for McG at Forest. As long as he doesn't bring off the pitch baggage, think we should welcome him. He has a better goal scoring record than Salmon.
