Murphy Has No Concerns About Pressure
Saturday, 6th Dec 2014 06:00

Top scorer Daryl Murphy has no concerns that being second in the Championship table will create additional pressure on Town as they pursue promotion back to the Premier League.

Murphy, who will be chasing his 12th league goal of the season against Leeds at Portman Road today, said: “I don’t think there’s going to be pressure. It’s just a case of keeping it going, the run we’re on and the performances we are turning in, maintaining the consistency and staying hard to beat. If we can keep it going until the end of the season who knows where we’ll end up?”

The Republic of Ireland striker recalled the dramatic stoppage-time clincher netted by fellow Waterford man Noel Hunt, making his debut on loan from Leeds, to earn a 1-0 win at Charlton last week.

He smiled: “It was brilliant. I thought both teams had a lot of chances in the game but we kept going right to the very end. We wanted to win the game and for Noel to come up with the winner was absolutely brilliant.

“In the past, maybe, we could have been on the losing end of the 1-0 result but with the team spirit and the determination we have this time round, plus the players we have brought in, we just look more assured and want to go and win every game, no matter who we are playing, and I think that showed on Saturday.”

Having also drawn at high-flying Bournemouth a fortnight ago, most fans will be anticipating a seventh home win of the season for Town when 15th-placed Leeds are the visitors to Portman Road, even if they come to Suffolk having beaten leaders Derby last week.

Murphy said: “At home we’re always confident, no matter who we play, and Saturday will be no different. We’ll be going all-out, as usual, to win the game.”

And win the game we shall. He will not only get his 12th goal of the season today, but also his 13th and 14th.
