Hunt and Hyam Miss Bolton Trip
Thursday, 11th Dec 2014 14:40

Town will be without Stephen Hunt and Luke Hyam for Saturday’s trip to Bolton Wanderers. Hunt has been ill, while Hyam is not yet over his achilles problem.

“Luke’s still suffering with his achilles, he’s not fully fit yet,” manager Mick McCarthy said. “A grumbling achilles is not easy to get shot of.

“And Stephen Hunt has got a bit of a virus and has been laid a bit low so he’s not ready yet.”

Hunt’s younger brother Noel is available again having been ineligible against his parent side Leeds last weekend.

McCarthy says winger Cameron Stewart came through Tuesday's 3-2 U21s victory over Brentford in which he score the winning goal.

It was the 23-year-old's first game since he suffered a hamstring injury but the Town boss says the former Hull man has a battle on his hands to win a place in the side.

“I thought he did much better in the U21s the other day and is looking fitter," he added.

"He’s just got to keep going. It’s not easy for him to get in the team at the minute, they’re playing well.”

Bolton have a concern over striker Craig Davies who has a hamstring problem with on-loan Cardiff man recall Joe Mason his likely deputy if he misses out, while youngsters Conor Wilkinson and Zach Clough are other options. Full-back Kevin McNaughton remains out with a hamstring injury.

Veteran Icelander Eidur Gudjohnsen, who rejoined the Trotters earlier in the week 14 years after leaving the club, is expected to be on the bench.

The 36-year-old was targeted by Town in the summer of 2000 after the Blues had beaten Bolton to a place in the Premier League - his last game for the Trotters was the first leg of the play-off semi-final - and was also linked on a number of subsequent occasions.

Tough game away to Bolton.

Not taking anything for granted and simply hope we maintain the momentum we have. Win lose or draw on Saturday and we're still in a fantastic position.

It's good to have some depth to draw from.

Phil, have there been any updates on Jonny Williams' recovery progress lately?

Think he's still a few weeks away, was still injured rather than back in training as of last week.

Hunt has been playing well lately. Definitely a big loss. Bolton is gonna be a tough one. Would take a draw.

Bolton could be a potential banana skin in my opinion especially with players missing. That said we smashed Leeds last weekend with a team that didnt look that strong prior to kick off so hopefully im wrong and we can grab all 3 points again saturday. COYB!!!!

Why do they let Bolton know that Hunt won't be playing? They would have been preparing for him to take most of the set pieces .

id like to think this will be a comfortable win but i doubt it. still think we will sneak it 1-2

bennettrdblue, Bolton have won their last 4 at home since Neil Lennon took over and are unbeaten in 5. If that's 'not going well' then I am not being real as you suggest. I'm not saying we shouldn't be confident in our vein of form but there are easier places to go than their bleak, cold, windy ground. Must admit, I'd settle for a point and, I suspect, philosophical MM would too.

Hyam's having a real stop start season, mainly stops. Opportunity for Bru, Tabb etc tho

Hopefully it'll be a chance for Cameron Stewart to maybe get a place on the bench and show his qualities if he is called upon. It seems he may have just moved ahead of Henshall in the pecking order for those wide positions.

Do we know if he'll be travelling with the squad for the game?

Games arent going to get any easier just because we are 2nd. Whilst we are capable of winning this game a point will be more than acceptable. An away draw anywhere in this division is decent. Arrogance towards other sides is likely to leave us with egg on our faces. I believe we have 1 of the best managers for ensuring that complacency doesnt creep in and with that in mind the good run should continue.

Hunt is a big miss as he has been excellent when he plays. But he is injury prone and I wonder if it's his last season with us for that reason? No disrespect to Hyam, but we don't need him and Skuse in the sane midfield.

Got 0-0 written all over it.

I can't see Stewart ever getting in this squad as we don't play with wingers at the moment.... we're 433 and hard to beat :)

Hyam has become a real injury prone player..seems to miss almost as much matches as what he plays, as said Hyam and Skuse don't really blend but think I'd rather have Hyam in rather than Skuse. Agreed Hunt has done ok of recent times and always puts in a handy free kick delivery which is more than can be said for Tabb.

Hunt is injury prone? Has he tripped over his virus then?!

Time for St Leger to step up to the mark? i,m really curious as to how good the man is, his name has always been somehow linked in my mind to a town career!
Just how good is the man?

Can't wait for this one!

Notlob hate us. They're going to try get stuck into us (do an Ipswich on us so to speak) but I think we have enough character for that battle, and enough quality to win - prediction 0-2 (Skuse for his first goal anyone?)

@bohslegend

I'd Skuse scores then Bolton should immediately walk off the pitch.... It really isn't going to be their day!
