McCarthy Sad For Collison That Spell Hasn't Worked Out
Thursday, 11th Dec 2014 14:49

Town boss Mick McCarthy says he’s sad for midfielder Jack Collison that his spell with the Blues hasn’t worked out. Earlier in the week, the Blues manager revealed that the former West Ham man wouldn’t be kept on once his short-term deal comes to an end later this month.

The 26-year-old has suffered from a succession of injuries while at Portman Road - he is currently sidelined with a knee problem picked up in the U21s - and has been unable to break into the first-team squad.

“I’m very sad for him but it’s what happens,” McCarthy said. “I thought he was really well worth a chance because when he came in he looked the part in training and he’s a great lad to have around the place, a really good pro. But it hasn’t worked out."

He says he’s yet to speak to Darren Ambrose, who like Collison signed a short-term contract in September, regarding his future: “I’ve got to do it soon but I’ve not got round to that yet.”

Real shame, obviously been a good player but looks like his knees are shot now. Wouldn't be surprised to see him take a medically enforced early retirement and go into media. Best of luck to you Jack, whichever direction your next move takes you

Sounds like Ambrose will be on his way out aswell then. If MM wanted him to stay longer he probably would have sorted it by now. Shame for them both

Such a shame for Jack. His open letter to the WHU fans was a real tearjerker. At least we gave him a chance to get back into the game. Good luck Jack.

Such a shame,I think he had the potential to be something really special but his career has been cut short due to injuries. When he signed I instantly thought mick had found another class player under the radar, which he is,but it just wasn't to be.Wish him all the best in the future whatever it may hold!

Shame, but we can't carry injury prone players. Wages better utilised elsewhere.

........ predicted this with Collison - totally injury prone for whatever reason. Not the slightest surprised.

With Collison going, I would definitely keep Ambrose.
