Derby Chief Removes Tweets
Monday, 12th Jan 2015 18:40

Derby chief operating officer John Vicars has removed the tweets he made regarding Town in the wake of the Rams’ 1-0 defeat of the Blues on Saturday and has apologised to Town supporters.

In a statement, Vicars said: “Regarding comments I made on Twitter after Saturday’s game at Portman Road these were meant to be lighthearted and aimed primarily at Derby County supporters.

“It was not my intention to cause offence to Ipswich supporters and I apologise to any home supporter who thought they might have been disrespectful to their club.

“Saturday was a magnificent advert for the Championship and both clubs more than played their part.”

Quizzed on the comments earlier this afternoon Town boss Mick McCarthy was typically forthright.

“You know I call it ‘Twatter’!” he joked. “I actually don’t know the chap.”

Reminded that the tweets revived a debate about his team and route one football from earlier in the season, he added: “But not with anybody who actually knows anything about football. I said I think he’s probably lived up to the name I give that social website.”

I have to say living in Peterborough it close to £100 to watch town play because of petrol car parking pie and a drink programme plus ticket and yet for £7 pound you got a sky place for 24 hours, which I did, so I can see why the gate was down for such a big game.

Frustrating game watch town pumping the ball forward to see Derby pump it back up to watch us huff it back again, felt we would have hurt them more if we had played it on the ground a bit more as McGoldrick was struggling to get a head on the ball and when he did there was no runner to pick up the loose ball.
Felt too much tipy tapy football on the touch line between 2 or 3 player instead of getting in crosses which seemed to cause Derby problems.

Town are doing well and far better than I expected this season expected to make play offs but never pushing for top 2 so think it was an off day, shame really as Derby were there for the taking.

Nice use of mispelwin.
So how appropriate the goal was scored by an ex-Budgie c.unit

Unfortunately the guys comments are quite right how ever, it was a bit foolish to go on Twitter. It has provoked a lot of really stupid comments here. Our midfield was lacking on Saturday & it was a dour match which is a pity as it was a chance to showcase ITFC Sky. Hope we give a better performance tomorrow although it is less important than the Millwall game.

A long ball is a hopeful ball just lumped up the pitch. We don't do this with play direct, but with a purpose.

Sounds like jealousy to me - it usually is or you'd just keep your stupid thoughts to yourself.

Knob.

Get these printed off and place them in the home changing room along with any others we get and that will provide plenty of motivation.

I still think we will finish in the top 2.

michael99 - The problem seems to be that the centre of the North Stand is at odds with Section 6 in the corner? If they both sang the same songs then the atmosphere would be generated all round the ground not fractionalised. I agree it seems the same songs from the 'middle section'. Maybe because they are an older set who have not moved away from the same seats they have had for years but thats a problem with all seated grounds. For me, and I have served my time in the North Stand, the Corner seems to have more atmosphere . Interested to hear other views from those in the North Stand. This is not looking to pick a fight just to understand the rational in the thinking. By the way "S*** Boris Johnson" was quality!!

Michael 99, callmeted - the problem is, because of all seater stadia, you can't stand with your mates and are therefore less likely to spark up a new song in the presence of strangers. I've tried to get some different songs going, but no-one's interested and just look around, embarrassed...

Back in the day I bet you met with your mates in the pub, came up with some funny songs, stumbled onto the terrace and sang together! Now we all part ways at the entrance of the ground. Bring back the terraces, fer chrissakes...

Slambo - my point exactly but also feel that if the two got together the atmosphere would be a lot better. I agree that the 'natural migration' that standing allows would let the whole thing be a lot fresher than the predicatable songs that we hear from behind the goal at present. There is very little chance that any other part of the crowd will join in with them. Crystal Palace seem to have got it right recently !!

Slambo yeah bring back the old North Stand, or at least the atmosphere when we could all stand & be with our mates. Always hated seating.
A good omen _ in 1968 our last game was at home to Blackburn, result a 1-1 draw which meant we went up as champions above QPR, look at the fixture list!!!!!!!!!!!!!
