Bishop Still on Sick List As McCarthy Looks for Keeper
Thursday, 15th Jan 2015 14:28

Midfielder Teddy Bishop remains on the sick list ahead of Saturday’s visit to Millwall, but Cole Skuse and Jay Tabb are back in training having also suffered with the virus which has hit the squad in recent weeks.

“Teddy Bishop’s not been in today, he’s still suffering,” manager Mick McCarthy said. “There are one or two just sniffling and what have you. I hope it’s not going to prove to be any worse than that.

“The good news is that Tabby trained and Skusey trained, so we’ve got a couple coming back.”

Kevin Bru, impressive against Southampton last night, looks set to partner Skuse in the centre of the midfield at the Den.

With Dean Gerken ruled out for a month with a hip injury McCarthy says he’ll be looking for a more senior keeper as cover with Michael Crowe yet to make a first-team appearance.

“We’re looking for back-up, no doubt about that,” McCarthy confirmed. “It’s all right putting Michael Crowe on the bench, but he’s never played a league game. I can sit on the bench as long as I’m not called upon, it’s not going to matter.

“Given the position we’re in we need a bit more experience and a bit more cover than that.”

If Bru and SKuse play together in the middle then in my opinion we need two out-and-out wingers like Anderson and Stewart or things just get far too static resulting in hoofball.

Just my opinion- MM opinion is obviously superior

the lack of suggestions for Fred Barber in his mask is concerning me.

For goodness sake, there is such a thing as a player who is developing and isn't yet up to the grade. He may never make the level or he might impress the keeping coach enough that he convinces said coach to reccomend he is the backup. That hasn't happened in this case so here we are looking for a backup keeper. It's really is more difficult to misconstrue MM's comments than it is to just read and accept them. He is the straightest talking manager I can think of and Crowe will have known well before he was on the bench that he wasn't the immediate back-up to Bart. Also, pointing out that we need striker or attacking midfield cover more than a keeper doesn't stop us needing a keeper. If we are looking for one of those I guess you'll have to wait for another story to hear about it.

Phil....I apologise wholeheartedly for lowering the tone of seriousness on the forum. If required I will go to the 'children's corner'....and promise not to throw my toys out of the pram!!!

Yeah there was also a time, 6 days ago to be precise, when everyone seemed to be behind the Town. Now most have resorted to the usual moans and groans just cos we're not winning every single game. Don't forget could be top by 5pm on saturday!

Childrens Corner? Not childish, just tired of your boring, vitriolic sounding off blueboy. And, unlike several excellent TWTD'ers on here (thanks people — I like reading your insights as much as the articles), you blueboy never actually say anything of worth. ‘Serious/sensible debate/discussion?' All you do is constantly slag off a manager who spent 10 grand and took us from bottom to 2nd, and other contributors (sometimes IN CAPITALS), and bombard us with your management brilliance. Eg:

‘Wordsworth is potentially totally different class - problem for him is Mick would prefer a Suffolk Punch to a Silky Race Horse every time…' Blueboy, he's just signed for Crawley. That's Crawley in L1 (only just).

On Cresswell: ‘…a decent/good player - yes, without doubt - but, there are some good left backs around in the Championship and lower Divisions that could easily be his equal... Blueboy, he signed for WHU a few days later and plays every week….

‘Children's Corner' Warktheline ??

While I'm at it, here's one of your typically astute postings:

‘Mm iS an idiot'.

You seem to be already there.

This bloody virus is a real worry !! We haven't been anywhere near our best the last two games and I'm guessing the illness in camp has a lot to do with that !!! Now more of the lads have the sniffles !! We can't afford to drop more points at Millwall or Brighton , or derby and Bournemouth could be well away !! Bournemouth have had a 3 million pound offer turned down for Birmingham's new star , everyone is spending ,EXCEPT US !! we need players so come on ME let's have a real go at it !!!!

Interested to know if anyone's seen Crowe play? What sort of standard does he appear to be?
