Town Advice to Fans Travelling to Norwich
Thursday, 26th Feb 2015 06:04

Town have issued advice to fans making the trip to Norwich for the derby at Carrow Road on Sunday (KO 2.05pm). The Blues have been given 2,000 tickets for their visit to Norfolk, which will be shown live by Sky.

There will be no designated ‘away’ fans' pub at Norwich, the pub that has opened previously has decided that it does not wish to open on the day.

The Riverside Hotel opposite Ipswich station will be open from 9am, while the Wetherspoons pubs in town - The Cricketers, Golden Lion and Robert Ransome - also open early.

Coaches will be escorted from Ipswich by Suffolk police outriders, who will escort the coaches directly to their destination near Carrow Road and will need to co-ordinate their arrival with the special train.

All supporters are to be encouraged to go directly to the stadium, which will open at 12 noon, earlier than usual, so that people can get a drink/food from the visitors' section.

There will be no ‘bubble’ and supporters will walk freely from/to the coaches/trains/car parks to the stadium. However, there will be a large police presence to guide and protect fans along the way from the station and coach parks.

The special train will be departing Ipswich at 12.35pm, calling at Stowmarket only. It leaves Norwich at 4.20pm, again calling at only Stowmarket, which will only allow supporters approximately 20 minutes after the match to get back to the station. Obviously there will be normal service trains running which supporters could catch if required.

Fans advice to clueless police

Instead of having us in Norwich with nowhere to go for 4 hours before kick off in little groups all over the city, give us a pub and keep us all in one place together! Easier to police and you won't have to work as hard for your Sunday overtime wage!

Note to Station Hotel

Don't open your doors for Norwich fans in future. I'm sure plenty of Town fans will be happy to see them arrive whilst having a pint across the road!

Just for once why cannot us Town fans be treated as normal human beings!
To be polite, it really gets on my man boobs that football supporters are still being treated as mindless hooligans.
We and Norwich fans are similar, we passionately follow our respective teams and yes both clubs have a few who will not behave in a responsible manner but it really gets me that each time there is a local derby, supporters have to be treated as two year olds!

Pathetic. I wont go on the special train and be treated like cattle. I will make my own way there thanks.

I'm on the "special" train, no way will we return to the station at 4:20, not forgetting the game will end at 4 and you get kept in the ground at the end of the match...

This "treatment" of Town fans but anything connected with narwich us precisely why i stopped going to that shytehole over 30 years ago. They (the establishment)really ARE scum towards us.

Now against my better judgement i have agreed to go there this season, and Im really begining to regret this decision. Its hardly likely to be an "enjoyable" day out for an away game, and I've done fair few of these.

Usual lazy and inaccurate comments about police. None will be on overtime instead they will have day off cancelled and they cant force pubs to be away fans only.

Newdawnagain - if you are inside the police you will know as well as I do that many will be on overtime though not all. The problem is not with the rank and file but the senior officers who treat this as a war and have done for years. I haven't been to Norwich for over 20 years because of the way it is policed when I was marched from the stadium to the station then left in spite of the fact I had parked in the police car park at County Hall.
So far as having an away fans pub - this can always be negotiated - they just don't want it. Finally 20 minutes to get to the station is impractical and will leave the police with a built in excuse when things go wrong.

Why do the nor fick police act like little hitlers toward law abiding Town fans though?

I don't know why we bother to go out of our way for the norwich fans/ open places for them to drink when they come to our place as the "treatment" we get from their lot at the away matches is pathetic. Basically treated like a mix of cattle & children. Yes, its a derby match, but our fans are hardly troublemakers. I was at Millwall earlier in the season and not an ounce of trouble, assisted hugely by away fans having a pub to congregate in at London Bridge. Different scenario of course, but norfolk police year on year seem to show us town fans a total lack of respect in this fixture.

My first reaction (as I live in Norwich) was to get in some Adnams and open up my front room. But sensing a few problems, I have abandoned that idea.
My advice is as follows : Arrive early and head into the main shopping centre for food/drink. Avoid the Riverside and Prince of Wales Road areas. Avoid the 'special' train.

They treat us the way they do because they have an inferiority complex. What a load of tossas they are : Norfolk scum, and always will be. Bloody hate em .

Why not have a fans park? Surely it can't be that hard to arrange and police. Just a thought.

How are Norwich police beimg hostile? They are letting us walk freely from the station and go wherever we like. Don't act like a prick and you'll be fine...

Why are we treated like animals? With cuts in police funding I find it ludicrous that we are to be escorted 40 miles to Norwich. Surely more sensible for Norfolk police to meet say 5 miles out and take us in.This used to be the norm on all away trips before cuts.. The only people who police escort on this route are prisoners from Norwich prison on route to courts in Ipswich. We are not hooligans, decision completely OTT.

The Police won't be on overtime, their rest days would have been cancelled months ago or they would choose officers already working that day. Otherwise the cost for them is massive because the police normally tend to only get any form of payment from clubs for how many officers that are inside the ground. People shouldnt be moaning about being treated like so called cattle. For one if you didnt want to be treated this way you wouldnt go. Secondly the only reason its like this is that throughout the years the small minority of idiots ruin it for the majority. If there was no trouble at football inspite of rivalries then this type of policing wouldnt happen. But its a part of football so if you're going sunday have a drink enjoy the game and cheer us on (hopefully to victory) why worry about everything else?
