Fulham Again Linked With McCarthy
Wednesday, 8th Apr 2015 10:42

Championship strugglers Fulham continue to be linked with a summer move for Blues boss Mick McCarthy.

The Cottagers, who are 20th, eight points off the relegation zone despite receiving lucrative parachute payments following their relegation from the Premier League, were previously mentioned in connection with McCarthy last month.

According to today’s Irish Independent, Fulham owner Shahid Khan is willing to meet Town’s compensation requirements to land the 56-year-old with a four-year contract worth €10 million (£7.3 million) - including a promotion clause - and a big budget on offer at Craven Cottage.

McCarthy, whose family home is still in Bromley, signed a new three-year deal with the Blues last summer.

Current Fulham manager Kit Symons took over, initially as a caretaker-boss, following the departure of Felix Magath in September and is contracted until the end of next season.

Looking at his Man Management ability...i want him to stay. Looking at his tactical abillity....i want him out. Looking at him handling our finance situation....i want him to stay. Looking at his match day team selection....I want him out.

With or without Mick ,things do need a freshen up. They will get that if get into play offs and gain promotion. They would get that under new management. Also Mick is not stupid is he ,he will see all the weaknesses we have across our side in the same way we do. So under Mick things will change next season as they have too. I don't want Mick to go ,i just want him to play a balanced team ,no more than that in reality.

Hit the nail on the head clint_eastwood. It is a balancing act. I am unfortunate in that I don't get to see many games (being an exile in the west and having football playing sons to support too) so even though I abhor long ball football and negative tactics I don't have to put up with it week in week out (the level of youth football I watch is predominantly pass and move, creative and attacking). But it does make the trips to home matches (e.g. Reading) fairly depressing. I'd probably give him another season but if he continues to make the same mistakes he'll have to go.

Good to see some reasoned comments on here. Of course money is a motivator as is a challenge with MM, he took us on after all and has, and is still on course to go from relegation form to play off team in a couple of seasons with no real player investment. As many say on here How many Managers would take on the role without any transfer budget. Of course if we do not go up and sell Mings (Bishop?) will that money be made available? Whatever happens I see a summer of change ahead. Let's believe and there will be many more twists in next 5 games Derby vs Brentford and us vs Wolves huge. Wigan can play a part as well!

Wouldn't blame him, might fancy working for an owner with a bit of ambition.

I think best deal he did was Jonny Parr - a really decent footballer, am surprised he has not featured more as a starter - plus to me this stage of the season calls for passion! Remember Jim Magilton - Stephen Hunt has that inner passion - he will get players pumped

I just wished MM would play with a creative mid.

Mick said earlier in the season if a team came in for him closer to home he would be intrested and it would turn his head. I think he may go if Fulham offer him a good budget and wages.

" Remember, Royle had money until the end of his reign.
People criticise the football we play - I agree it isn't always pretty. But was it any better after Royle. "

Royle was very much like Mick, his first cash signing from memory was Darren Currie over two years into his reign.

Yes, the football played under Royle was a hell of a lot better than under Mick from a footballing point of view, we played superb stuff under Royle. The problem being his inability to sort a defence out proving quite a headache....!

I am very much in the pro Mick camp. Wonderful job sofar, keep it going Mick.

IF mick wants to stay on whether we make play offs or not, then I have no doubt, ME wouldn't object.
No matter what many are saying about team selection, team tactics, and style of play, the owner has to weight up the whole picture.
1, The club, and owner were in free fall, on the pitch and financially.
2, McCarthy arrested slide, and got shot of players on high wages, who returned nowt on pitch.
3, McCarthy stabilised club.
4, McCarthy has turned club into potential promotion candidates.
5, Apart from current wage bill, small amount of money has been required from owner to accomplish current trend.
6, owner will envisage season 15-16 to be highly successful, financially ,if we somehow gain promotion, or on the pitch, if we start season in Championship.
*People who rattle on about Warburton.... He inherited a fine footballing Div1 side, well established who had been knocking at the door of Championship, with the German at the helm, prior to forced management change!

It's all well and good saying not a chance, but unless ME finally realises that we are one of only a handful of clubs sticking to FFP, then these type of offers will be appealing. There will almost certainly be a clause in Micks contract which forbids him discussing budgets and Evans cash flow etc. hence the 'I'm cool with what I'm working with comments'. In reality, having a proper budget elsewhere is likely to be appealing. Mick isn't daft. He'll know a small investment was required this year, especially after Cresswell was sold for millions. Yet ME opted for frees and loans. It would seem we will find out the hard way that you need more than just that to get out of this league. Fulham will offer him that.

Well said Tractorshark. Fans must becareful what they wish for. It is always pretty but in Oct, Nov, Dec we played decent football and got results. Mick knows it, thats why he has brought in the likes of McG, Bru, Bish, Ambrose & Williams - we just need those top playmakers to stay fit & then a system can be worked on.

Best season for 10years and its done to MM & TC. Letrs get behind the Blues, there are still 5 games to do and all above us have games they can easily lose. It is not ovet yet!

I want MM to stay and not get his head turned but I can see why Fulham would want him. They have seriously under performed this season and their owner would want promotion before the parachute payments run out.
Regarding Warburton the only reason he is leaving Brentford is a disagreement with the owner regarding playing styles.
The owner who is a life long Bees fan and has made his fortune in the betting industry is a "stats" man and has decided that the game is all about possession - the Spanish "tippy-tappy" style. It was rumoured that he has his eyes on a Spanish manager whose team's possession stats are even better than Barcelona (without the big stars and money of course).
Warburton doesn't agree and thats why he is going. Most of the fans I know (I live in SW London) are extremely down that he is going and think he is one of the best Managers they have ever had.
If MM was to go I don't think we could do better than Mark Warburton but I don't think he will be short of job offers. He was voted Manager of the Year by I think the journalists.

MM has taken us as far as he can.Time to move on old chap. the problem is that M.E. has on every occassion picked a crap manager or someone who is not right for this club.
Hate to say it but he should take a leaf out of the scums book who now are what we used to be. A family club with directors who understand the supporters and appoint managers who are inexperienced but up and coming. (with the odd failure)

What were we supposed to do at Huddersfield - give them a rapturous round of applause?
I think not. Praise when good, grumble when poor, just like any other profession. Wake up you lot.
