Murphy Misses Out on Award
Sunday, 19th Apr 2015 22:13

Town striker Daryl Murphy missed out on the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Year award at this evening’s Football League Awards with Middlesbrough’s on-loan Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford carrying off the gong.

Murphy, the division’s 24-goal top scorer, was shortlisted alongside Bamford and Watford’s Troy Deeney after a vote by Championship managers.

The Football League Awards were handed out at a ceremony at The Brewery in London. Former Town striker Jordan Rhodes was named in a Team of the Decade picked to celebrate the Awards' 10th anniversary.

Murphy, who was named the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for December, has already carried off the Town supporters’ Player of the Year, Junior Blues and Platinum Members awards.

I think this award should only be open to players whose permanent club is in the Championship or below. A Premier League loanee doesn't seem the type who should be winning Championship POTY.

Murphs unlucky to miss out, personally think if his season was the other way round he would have won this!

Absolutely ridiculous- Bamford should not have even been in the top three. Matt Ritchie or Murph deserved it.

Player of the season awards should be at the end of the season. We have two games(hopefully more) left, what if murphy scored two hat-tricks( I wish)!! He would then have scored 30 goals in a season. To not be awarded it then, would be totally absurd.

Murph deserved it for his overall contribution to the team, let alone scoring more than Bamford.

But of course we are the ugly sisters of the Championship............

Murphy is so much more than just a goal scorer for us, but as it was between 3 strikers whos main job is to score they gave it to the worst player, who is clearly playing in a better team based on league position, and the championships best player plays for Chelsea (best team in the best league in the world)

Bamford's OPTA stats are way higher than Murphy's.

Let us put some perspective on this.

Who gives a rat's backside who won.
This is simply another method of self congratulation is a deeply shallow world.

What matters is that WE recognise our players success.

I really don't care what the manager of 'who ever' fancies' player A more than player B.

Bamford should not have been a contender ?? a premier league striker WHAT !!!!!

Jordan Rhodes being in the team of the decade indicates the lack of credibility in the selection process of the Sky awards. Murph wont be too upset about missing out on this.

Well done Murph for getting yourself in the running for this one. Don't worry - we all know you were Number 1.

Winning yet another award would just be getting greedy. Nice of Murphy to let one of the also rans a bit of a chance to win something.

Just want Boro in the play offs next so we can show them who is the better player.

Disgraceful decision..Murphy's been consistent ALL season.
Bumford's only been scoring since February.
