Shrewsbury Youngster Linked
Wednesday, 22nd Apr 2015 12:32

Town and Celtic are amongst a number of clubs reported to be showing interest in Shrewsbury’s 18-year-old midfielder Josh Ginnelly (pictured right).

Despite having made only three senior sub appearances, Coventry-born winger Ginnelly, who was with Aston Villa as a schoolboy, is attracting the attention of a lot of clubs with Nottingham Forest, Newcastle, Sunderland and Stoke all previously linked.

Shrewsbury have offered their youth player professional terms but he is yet to sign and seems likely to leave at the end of the season with compensation due to the League Two side.

Coventry-born, with Villa as a schoolboy, and now playing at Shrewsbury. Sounds like it would be a bit of a tough ask to tempt this lad away from the Midlands. Advantage Stoke/Forest, methinks.

They've had a decent season so he could be a good prospect. Nocanaries makes a good point though. Maybe no more in this than the romoured interest for Bishop

With MM's track record of not playing young tricky wingers, can't see why any would come our way.

Unless, of course, Henshall and Stewart are really that far off the pace.

I trust our MM and TC, but feel maybe less tricky and more effort is required from his style of winger.

MM clearly does like wingers i.e. Jarvis and Kightley to name but two but Stewart and Henshall are just not up to the plate at the moment. They may improve but they have had long enough now and reckon they could be out of the door sooner or later.

Shrewsbury's not really Midlands, being some 60 miles west of Coventry.

Re Guthrum - down to interpretation really. Shrewsbury is considered part of the official West Midlands region, but it's way outside the West Midlands county/conurbation.

Either way, it's far closer to his hometown than any of Newcastle, Celtic, Sunderland or Ipswich!

Shrewsbury is classed as West Midlands, within Shropshire. We have BBC Midlands Today here!…and contrary to a lot of rumours, we are not in Wales!
As for Josh Ginnelly, he is highly rated by Shrewsbury and manager Micky Mellon. Cant see it being good for his development moving to another club.
Not seen him play (i do get to watch The Shrews a few times a season), but he's only had 3 appearances to date, and so quite unproven.
