Former Town keeper Craig Forrest has been named amongst this year's inductees into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame. The 47-year-old will be officially inducted at a ceremony in Toronto in October.

Forrest joined the Blues in 1984 as a 16-year-old and made 312 appearances before moving on to West Ham - having previously had loan spells with Colchester and Chelsea - in 1997. He retired in 2002 having overcome testicular cancer.

The keeper, who is now back in Canada working as a television pundit, won 56 full Canadian caps and was in the team which won the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2000, where he was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and top keeper having conceded only three goals in five games in which he saved two penalties. He was inducted into Canada's Soccer Hall of Fame in 2007.

At a press conference where Canada's Sports Hall of Fame's Class of 2015 was announced earlier today, Forrest praised that side who were skippered by ex-Town centre-half Jason de Vos.

"I don't know if I'd be standing here if it wasn't for that 2000 Gold Cup team," Forrest said.

"So I just want to share that with the rest of those guys, with the Canadian national team, as well as all of my team-mates that I played with around the world.”

Have to disagree on the kits, as a GK in my youth, I loved them, still have the Yellow Umbro one with purple stripes in the loft, much better than the horrible skin tight things these days. sirbenofmorlingshire added 12:07 - Apr 23 ... Slightly off point, but remember well Craig getting injured and Clive Baker was number 1 for pretty much a season. Bit of a blast from the past that name - seemed to think Clive did well between the sticks, but was no Craig Forrest!

nhabo added 13:56 - Apr 23 Deserved - one of my favourite Town 'keepers. Good to see Clive Baker mentioned in the above comment. I seem to remember Baker was nicknamed 'The Professor' by his team-mates because he had a degree.
