Town left-back Tyrone Mings is understood to have agreed a four-year deal with Bournemouth after Town accepted their bid of £8 million, with Brett Pitman and winger Ryan Fraser both set to move in the opposite direction.

Mings has agreed the terms subject to a medical, having held talks with the Cherries this morning, after being given permission to speak to them yesterday.

The deal, which it's understood could potentially rise to £10 million after the usual milestone clauses and includes a sell-on, is expected to be confirmed on Friday.

While Bournemouth striker Pitman is, as reported earlier, expected to join the Blues in the next couple of days in what's a separate deal - a free transfer according to local media on the South coast - Scottish U19 and U21 international winger Fraser is also due to move to Town on loan for the season as part of the Mings move.

Fraser, 21, started his career with hometown club Aberdeen before joining the Cherries in a £400,000 deal in January 2013. Last season the 5ft 4in tall midfielder - who operates on either flank, primarily on the left - made 11 starts and 16 sub appearances, scoring two goals. He is contracted until the summer of 2016.

News that the Cherries were targeting Mings broke yesterday when SkyBet slashed the odds of the 22-year-old making the move to 1/6.

Mings was watched by most of the Premier League last season with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea strongly linked.

Crystal Palace had a £3.5 million offer turned down last summer, while Newcastle were reported to have made an enquiry last week when they were said to have been quoted an initial fee of £8 million, rising to £10 million, again once further clauses were taken into account.

The Bath-born full-back joined the Blues from non-league Chippenham for a now-famous fee of £10,000 in December 2012.

Former U18s coach Russell Osman brought him to Portman Road for a trial on the recommendation of his son Toby, a team-mate of Mings, who had been released by Southampton as a schoolboy.

The one-time mortgage advisor made 49 starts and 15 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring once.

Town manager Mick McCarthy and owner Marcus Evans have both said that they are determined to keep hold of the Blues' key players this summer, however with the Blues' spending power again limited by the Championship’s Financial Fair Play rules, selling a player for a big fee will give McCarthy far greater scope as he looks to strengthen ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.

The Mings and Fraser and Pitman deals are likely to be completed on Friday, while Arsenal youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles is also expected to have his season-long loan confirmed.

So, is this REALLY £8M or a deal "up to" £8M based on lots of conditions spread over several years? Do we think it is £8M PLUS Fraser and Pitman, or are the latter two valued and taken out of the £8M? I realise we probably won't be told the detail, but good to speculate.

mutters added 16:03 - Jun 25 As sad as it is that he's moving on (he does seem like a decent chap), the price and the overall deal is right for ITFC. £8m, anohter couple of decent players is a really good price for us. If this allows us to keep the rest of the squad then this is a great deal. I have every confidence that MM can find defensive replacements and if he cant he can train somebody to do the job. Keeping the chaps up front, even adding a couple, makes more sense. So long Tyrone, you'll be missed. If all goes well then you will be a superstar one day and if all goes well we will use the money to get us into the Premiership.

naa added 16:04 - Jun 25 I've no problem with Mings making the move to the Premier league, especially to a club he's likely to get a game with. But it's sad that as soon as we get a player who is decent we lose them. Mings only played one season for us. It's very hard to build a team when you're constantly having to replace your best players. Eventually the quality will slip. It'd be nice if we could hold onto players for at least 2 seasons. But £8m is a good price, just a shame we won't get to reinvest it - it will just go to service the debt.

With all that money MM can buy a goal scoring midfielder and a right back. No left back needed with Parr already here! Good news!

This deal sends out the right message in every way - turned down a decent offer for him when he had not been here that long and he continued to show his ability/promise. Now 6 months later we still can't offer him Premier League football and a better offer comes in and we give him his chance. Every ambitious young player now knows that they will be given a chance under MM and if they are properly rated by the top flight we won't continue to stand in their way. Money to spend now is far more valuable than similar or a little more to spend on the 30th August. Good luck to Mings. I certainly don't expect the same impact as Cresswell next season but in another couple maybe.

He's put the club in good light a few times and deserves his move. However, to get £8m plus Pittman and Fraser sounds a very, very good deal to me. I hope we invest the rest of the money to get a few more quality additions!

I think he'll become a very good player and Barcamouth's style of play should suit his development. Good luck to him. If we can hang onto the Murph, McG and Bish we'll be in great shape. And I'm sure there'll be another addition or two to come.

Jimmy86 added 16:12 - Jun 25 Good luck to Mings, he is a decent guy who has a lot of potential, but for the time being, potential is all it is. I think he has blown hot and cold this season, which isn't suprising, bearing in mind it was his first season as a professional. He has looked too lax at times defensively and has also played with the breaks on too many times. 8 million, with Fraser on loan is an outstanding deal and simply couldn't be turned down. Now hopefully this money will be reinvested in the playing budget properly and could fund a promotion winning team
