Mings: Town Will Always Have a Special Place in My Heart Friday, 26th Jun 2015 18:38
Departing full-back Tyrone Mings has thanked everyone connected with Town and says the club will always have “a special place in his heart”. The 22-year-old completed his move to AFC Bournemouth earlier today for an initial fee of £8 million rising to £10 million with top-up clauses.
“I’ve had a lot of well wishes from loads of people at the club and plenty of my teammates,” the £10,000 December 2012 signing from Chippenham told the club website.
“Obviously the captain and senior players such as Cole Skuse, Gerks and Luke Hyam have all been in touch.
“These are not just guys I speak to in the dressing room but also they have become lifelong friends, so it’s nice.
“It’s a move I’m really excited to make, although with a hint of disappointment to be leaving Ipswich as I’ve loved my time here.
“I must thank the manager and Terry Connor for giving me a chance from non-league and everybody at the club has been so supportive on this journey.
“The fans have also been great and I just want to say thank you to all the Town supporters. It’s been a learning curve for me but they’ve always stuck with me and I’m grateful to them for that.”
He plans to return to Portman Road at some point to give his old team-mates his support: “Of course I’ll be back, it’s the first place I’d head for.
“This club will always have a special place in my heart and hopefully one day I can come back here and play at Portman Road again to give the fans a proper send off. That’s as long as they give me a good reception of course!”

Normally when we sell one of our top young players to one of the so-called big teams or, in the case of Rhodes, simply down to stupidity, I am always left disappointed. There is a sense of regret and what could have been etc. Even if the transfer fee is sizeable - in the case of Wickham for example - I still feel that way.
With Mings it is somewhat different.
The £8m - most of which is apparently being paid up front - and the subsequent extra potential £2m, add-ons, sell-on percentage etc, I feel we have got a tremendous deal. Yes Mings has had good games for us. Yes he has undoubted potential. But he has also had a fair few mistakes along the way. I fully appreciate this is down to age and experience, and I must not forget where he came from.
His final ball is normally, without fail, dreadful. This isn't having a go at the lad, just stating a fact. The odd assist he has had is more down to luck than judgement - he most certainly is nowhere near the Cresswell mould in that regard.
We already have a ready made replacement in the form of Parr. He is a player who, in my opinion, deserves to play more regularly than he has anyway. It has surprised me somewhat at the amount of stick he has had on this forum recently...
With the addition of Fraser - albeit on loan - and Pitman - a fantastic signing in my view - we now have a good squad taking shape. Throw into the mix that we now have about £8m to play with, things are looking good. Maybe that attack minded, goal scoring, midfielder can be found.
Before anyone moans in the event that the whole £8m isn't spent on transfer fees, bear in mind we have to pay wages and agents fees also. And it must not be forgotten that Marcus Evans ploughs multi millions annually into the Club to keep it afloat - not to mention his commitment to the academy.
All in all I think today has been a massive success for the Club.
I sincerely hope Tyrone has a long and successful career in the premiership and, hopefully, Internationally.
I do, however, have my doubts. The jury is out in my mind...

You have been our best signing for many years, coming in for £10K, waiting for your chance, playing brilliantly and helping us get into the Play-Offs, doing the club's reputation proud off the pitch, then moving on for an astonishing £8M to £10M. You will be remembered fondly and, who knows, maybe we can cheer you on one day as an England player. Best of luck!
It appears that both ITFC and yourself are both in a wonderful position. ITFC get to bank a serious wad of cash and an ROI which would make most PE funds quiver with excitement. You are, I assume, happy to ramp-up your income on the next phase of what we hope is a good career.
You leave behind a very large bucket full of cash and are heading toward the same.
obviously, we'd all have liked to keep him, and anyone who says they're glad to see the back of him is lying, and bitter. £8million is a great bit if business for us, and can seriously strenghthen our squad for the upcoming season. tyrone seems a great bloke, and has a good, bright head on his shoulders, so i wish him every success!!

Great move for the club and hopefully for himself. From everything he's said it does sound to me like he didn't really want to leave us for Bournemouth though. I hope we do see him again at Portman Road in the future in some capacity. All the best to a humble young man!
What a lovely lad. It'd be a pleasure to see him back at Portman Road one day! I don't particularly like Bournemouth and their arrogant fans but I like them a lot more now. I hope he hits the big time and play for England one day. Anyone know if we have a sell on fee if he leaves there?

Good luck Ty, it's a sad day for Town supporters. I for one think you are a great talent & I have enjoyed watching you play. We shouldn't be selling our best young stars.
Now it's over to Evans to do what in my opinion he still hasn't done with the Cresswell money, and reinvest the cash from this sale into the squad. Not just wages but fees.
Why waste cash on transfer fees when Mick has a great travk record of bringing in free transfers We got Pitman for nothing but a decent contract and no no doubt wage and he had a year left on his AFC Bournemouth contract. I fail to see how people don't see the business sense in this.
Tyrone, thanks so much - you are a real class act in every way, and I look forwards to watching your career go from strength to strength. Although this is a good deal for Town, time will also show its a good piece of business by Eddie Howe. Stay grounded and maybe one day we'll see you pull that England jersey on.

You've been a breath of fresh air throughout this club following on from the three disasters that were an embarrassing GBH case , a hapless gambler and a manager that combined both of the former.
I seriously hope you continue with those masquerading runs forward from deep , where you open your legs and show us your class ( c Brian Johnston).But don't forget what Uncle Terry has taught you and remember to finish properly , 'cos one day you're gonna rip the net, not only off the goal, but into the adjoining street.
Also, if anybody had kicked my glass over in the bar I wouldn't have been as honest as you were that evening and said that it was empty.Your parents should be exploding with pride right now , but all credit to them for knowing how to bring you up in the first place.
You'll be the first name in my FFL team for next season.The only shame being it won't be in a Town shirt.
This move just makes so much sense for player and club - we're selling to a club that, if Mings has a great season, would not be able to push away offers when the big boys come calling. Meaning we would relieve a tidy sell on fee. Also, if town were to get promoted and Bounemouth lose their PL status we could potentially resign him at a reduced fee as there wouldn't be a sell on fee. Mings is joining a club closer to where he is from, so should be more settled and is joining a team where he'll play the majority of matches.
