Tuesday, 18th Aug 2015 15:16

Town strikers Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick have been named in a provisional 37-man squad for the Republic of Ireland's Euro 2016 qualifiers against Gibraltar and Georgia next month.

The final squad will assemble on August 30th before the Gibraltar match in Faro, Portugal on Friday 4th September and then the Georgia fixture at the Aviva Stadium Dublin on the following Monday.

Manager Martin O’Neill, who was at Portman Road on Saturday for Town’s 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday, said: “These are two very important games in our qualifying campaign and we are looking forward to them. The players are all now back in action with their respective clubs and will be ready for these games.

“We will be training at the new FAI National Training Centre in preparation for the trip to Faro to take on Gibraltar and the home game against Georgia at Aviva Stadium.

“The facilities are very impressive and we look forward to making this our training base for all future international camps.”

Think Murph has looked a bit off the pace so far this season.Martin O'Neil I understand was at our weekend game;so couldn't have picked Daryl on strength of that game but presumably on what he did last season.Of the two think Dids has looked the sharper..

Similarly note that Mick has said he will play Chambers whatever, wonder whether he can therefor have several poor games and will still be in the team, whereas others like Emmanuel can have a good game, get dropped and looks like will be farmed out, surely Chambo doesn't have to play 90+ minutes of every game this season.

Same with Murph and McGoldrick surely does not have to play Daryl every minute of every game?Think Pitman should play in place of Murphy tonight for some of the game and Didsy behind front two,as I can see David getting fed up of being on the bench for every game, and its a long season so think there should be a bit of rotation,or at least substitution for the likes of our centre forward and our erstwhile captain!
But what do I know, will probably be told now to go and support another team, trouble is have been supporting this one for over 50 years so don't really want to travel all the way to Norwich lol.
