Town Closing in on Malarczyk Signing
Wednesday, 26th Aug 2015 15:26

TWTD understands that Town are hopeful of completing the signing of Korona Kielce defender Piotr Malarczyk before the end of the week.

The 24-year-old is understood to have been at Portman Road earlier this week with the Blues keen to get the formalities relating to the deal - which are more complicated as he’s being signed from an overseas club and requires international clearance - completed before the weekend.

In June Malarczyk signed a new contract with his hometown club, where he is currently skipper, but had a nominal release clause of 50,000 Polish Zloty, just over £8,500, included in the deal to allow him to move on if there was interest from a foreign side.

Malarczyk, who was previously interesting another Polish side, Jagiellonia Białystok, has been with Korona, who play in the Ekstraklasa, the Polish top flight, throughout his career.

He made his senior debut in 2009 and has now made 131 appearances, scoring eight goals.

Malarczyk has been named in this week’s Ekstraklasa Team of the Week for his performance in their 2-1 win away against Legia Warsaw.

The former Polish U17, U19 and U21 international plays either as a centre-half or a right-back with manager Mick McCarthy revealing that he was targeting a player in that mould earlier in the month.

The Blues made multiple offers for Hearts youngster Jordan McGhee before moving onto Malarczyk.

Excellent. This has all the makings of a good signing. Another player signed who has captained his side, and 8 goals from 131 appearances for a defender is good going...we have a considerable goal threat from our defenders.

I genuinely cannot believe how things have gone this season...signings, contracts, performances, results, cup run, a decent 2nd string, emergence of youngsters....now we just need the crowds back...come on everyone...make the dream happen and do your bit!

I haven't felt so excited about Town since we got relegated from the PL in 2001!

From what I understand the deal is done, but there will be a fortnights delay whilst Mick learns how to say his name for the press conference.

Surely Mick will insist on calling him Mally or Malarky or some such pet name!

Another captain on the pitch when he plays. Character seems to be the most desired quality that Mick looks for.

Hopefully it will help Billi having a compatriot at the club after the loss of his father.

Last time it said "before the end of the week" was Douglas, and that took less than a day. Fingers crossed for the same again!

The delay should just be a formality. As he is Polish he must not need a work permit.
