McCarthy: Not Too Much Wrong With Performance
Monday, 26th Oct 2015 06:00

Boss Mick McCarthy felt there wasn’t too much wrong with Town's performance in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest but admitted it was a “horrible feeling” to have taken a point rather than three from the match after conceding Liam Trotter’s equaliser in the 95th minute.

“I don’t think [there was too much wrong in the performance],” he said. “It’s bizarre that I’m stood here feeling like I’ve lost a tenner and found sixpence for some reason.

“It’s just a horrible feeling. There was nothing I could say to placate the boys and nothing that’s really that’s going to placate me until we finally win a game.

“But [I’ll be pleased with] the performance when I look back at it on Tuesday morning, because I won’t be in on Monday we’re going to watch Cardiff, me and TC.

“The lads are all in and then we’ll be in the rest of the week working on what we’re going to do for Cardiff.”

The Bluebirds, who are at Portman Road on Saturday as Town look to return to winning ways after six league games without a victory, face Bristol City at the Cardiff City Stadium this evening. The Welshmen are currently eighth, three points and five places above the Blues.

McCarthy added: “I don’t believe there’s anything wrong with team spirit, there’s nothing wrong with camaraderie, there’s nothing wrong with players, the club’s in really good shape.

“I said the other night that we’ve been having a tough time but, by the way, we played a team which came out of the Premier League on Tuesday and we’ve come [to Forest] and had a really good performance against a team of good players.

“For all the story of transfer embargoes and not being able to sign players, they’ve got a really good squad of players.”

Meanwhile, Town’s U21s are in action against Crystal Palace at Playford Road this afternoon (KO 1pm).

Penguin blue: can you name some please? The only one I an think of is jimmy Floyd, but I'd consider that a bit if a gamble. I can't think of any candidates. That doesn't mean I want MM to stay, but it does mean that the board would be reluctant.

Don't buy this Poyet-Taricco rubbish: the were terrible at Sunderland with selection, formation, signings. Plus, they'd be expensive, and we know how much MEvans would hate that

That just about sums MM up. I mean really? The performances are good? Don't make me laugh. It seems to me that he's putting spin on his interviews to try and save his arse. The sooner he leaves our club the better. If not there will be even less fans turn up to PR and we will be in a relegation dog fight.

So, it seem the knives are being sharpened.

However as always you guys claim to know best but offer no suggestions as to a replacement. I am sure you will all be applying with your wealth of experience on Football Manager.

Shut up and get behind the lads for goodness sake. As usual expectations way to high for a club who's owner wont invest any more than keeping the club running and a few pay rises. We have a TOP manager and its his first poor spell, by the way we are hardly in the bottom 3 or something, so please GET REAL. I love all the comments which were not relevant when we were winning last season, all of a sudden everything he does in wrong such as 'not sitting in the stands'. Unbelievable.

To all those people who say that those moaning couldnt do any better! I say this ! Everybody can see when something is right and wrong. Example if you have the builders im to build you an extension and they screw up, do you say oh well i couldnt do better or do you tell them you are not happy? The fact is everybody contributes to pur great club, those who pay now and thise who controbuted in the past and those who will do so in the future. The bottom line the club exists because of the supporters and we pay MM s wages. Not happy right now with this poor excuse of football, i want and expect better. Too many years of substandard football and to thise who aplaud where we are, you leave me speechless.

I want to get out of this league, but mot through the trap door.

For all that we may not have had any shots on goal, we did spend a large part of the first half up in Forest's third of the pitch. And it's not like our goal was being peppered, either. Thought our defence kept Jonny Williams very well contained. And after scoring, we didn't sit back, kept pushing up (great spell of passing between AMN, Bru and McGoldrick, right in front of us). The Forest equaliser was against the run of play at that point.

The trouble is,we,or almost all of us had great expectations for this season after MM said this was the best squad he had since joining the club.Ok,we started well then fell away due to some glaring mistakes from our defence and dare I say Gerkin.I feel the main problems lie in our midfield and un that is resolved we will not score many goals or stop conceding goals. We have missed TB this season and the he injury to Fraser has not helped.Yes,MM is a stubborn man and whatever we say he will not take any notice. We all must agree he has done a very good job with limited funds, and a few of the free players he has brought to the club are doing a good job and some are not. There is a long way to go and I'm sure things will turn round EVENTUALLY!!

Guthrum, I am pleased to see at least someone saw the same match as me at Forest. Two points dropped as a result of an individual error, again. MM cannot be blamed for this and had we secured the three points I am sure there would have been something else to moan about. As for 'several good progressive managers' being out there, the names are conspicuous by their absence.
I have every confidence that MM will achieve success given time but even when he does there will still be those not happy with the way he does it.

MM and the players said they were looking for automatic promotion or at least playoffs , the fans have not set the expectations the club has . MM stated at Christmas his squad was good enough for promotion they failed due to an average mid table performance for the second half of the season . MM stated this is his strongest squad for a promotion push so far , they are again failing .

Mowbray and Venus
Poyet and Tarricco
Alan Curbishley
Paul Lambert
Glen Hoddle
Roberto Di Matteo

I would imagine MM is on a hefty wack here

Surco72, I really wouldn't want any of them ahead of McCarthy. Possibly only Paul Lambert, who performed absolute miracles with Norwich, but that in itself would be a problem, as many one-eyed fans of ours wouldn't accept him for that very reason.

When people start trotting out names like Curbishley (what has he done since 2008?) or Hoddle (last managed in 2006) then I know they've lost the plot. You may as well suggest we get Jewell back - at least he has more recent experience.

Hoddle has been running his academy and was assistant under Harry at QPR and has stated his ambition to manage again , would be far more up to date than MM in terms of style and tactics

Yeah Mick should watch the games from the stands to see if Tommy, Luke and Co are getting the full 80 yards on their passes...I think only then will he see the lack in the teams passing ability.

I would say 3 hots on target in the whole match...none in the first half.. would suggest a lot wrong Mr McCarthy and how we can hope to win matches without trying to score is a bit beyond my ken.
The teams that are flying at the moment play to win and attack all the time. Our style is obsolete and won't win too many matches. Time for a radical change.....and to attempt scoring is one of the most important. Horrible and woeful hoofball...are we getting our message over?
