Rotherham Keen to Sign Hyam on Loan
Monday, 23rd Nov 2015 15:31

TWTD understands that Championship strugglers Rotherham United are keen on signing Blues midfielder Luke Hyam on a month’s loan.

On Friday, Town boss Mick McCarthy revealed that he wants to send the 24-year-old out for a short spell in order to play games having been sidelined since January due to a knee injury which eventually required surgery in the summer.

Hyam, who returned to action for the U21s in Friday’s 1-1 draw at QPR, is very much in McCarthy’s long-term plans but is unlikely to play first-team games for Town as he continues his recovery with plenty of other central midfield options available to the Blues manager.

“If he comes back having had all the time out and gets fit and then he doesn’t play and he travels with us and he doesn’t play, travels with us and doesn’t play again, he loses all the benefit of all his rehab,” McCarthy said.

“If we can put him out for a month, which I think we probably can, and he’s happy to do it, then that’s what will happen.”

Football League clubs have until Thursday at 5pm to sign players via the emergency loan facility.

Speaking on Friday, McCarthy said that he had no plans to add to his squad before the deadline, while he was also open to the likes of Josh Emmanuel and Myles Kenlock going out on loan to gain experience.

Watched him v QPR U21s. Nowhere near 100% fit as yet. 75% at best.

Remember when we were in the running to buy Vardy? One club splashed the cash, can't remember much about them, don't think they've done much since.

Even if he was fit, MM would prefer Skuse and Douglas for the holding role. If we had all our midfielders fit it would be interesting to know who our best CM pairing is.

If Hyams barely 75% fit he would only start as a sub for Rotherham most probably for the first few matches. A month wouldn't then give him alot of game time but better than nothing

How many players to have spent time with us have ended up at Rotherham in the past couple of years? I'm losing count!

Love Hyam but when he comes back from injury he needs a few games before he's at it. Will he play every week at Rotherham? Cause that's what we need him to do.

Even a 75% fit Hyam has to be better than they currently have available so I would expect him to start every match and McCarthy would likely make that part of the agreement even if he didn't say so publicly.

MVBlue- just had a look through that Vardy piece you put on this thread. Incredible looking at some of the comments on how it would be crazy spending £1 million pound on a 25 year old who had no football league experience. I imagine some of them poster may cringe a little if they look back at their comments of 3 years ago.....although who back then would have imagined his incredible rise to the top of the Premier League scoring charts?!

He would probably do better in a league 2 team. Not as much chance of him being injured again and would probably get to play most games at a slower pace.

Why did you downvote that DaveU? Perhaps you can make a suggestion!

Yeah I was chuckling at the expert comments below the Vardy piece. I do like it that comments are retained on old news pieces.

Is it just me or is the whole Rotherham squad there on loan?

I agree with posters on here, 1 month doesn't really seem worth it. Could we not find a club closer to Ipswich as well? If it is a short term loan he'll have to commute, won't he? Or stay in a hotel?

As for Jamie Vardy, let's all just calm down a bit. He's had a very good couple of months. If he finishes the season on 25, then does it again next year, I'll be convinced...

Probably the best move for luke, he will be playing at our level. Personally I would play him ahead of Skuse and Douglas when fully fit

Can someone more informed than me advise of any player once sent out on loan by MM ever gets back in the first team? I find this development worrying. Do not trust MM's judgement - think he would sooner play his favorites and the fringe jokers he signed close season to the likes of Hyam and Bishop when fit

Penguin - can you please tell me who cm wise Hyam - yes all of the below are different types of CM - he should possibly be ahead of the team in place of?

Skuse - No
Bru - No
Douglas - No
Bishop - No

Especially after a year out.

I'm not getting carried away - he's not that great and certainly no better than what we have already.

Agree with your list 100%. But surely he should be ahead of Giles Coke? (who is often on the bench)

Hyam will make a good impact at Rotherham and it will prove a wise move for him. He must go on an emergency 24-hour recall just in case.

He will struggle to get into the first team ahead of Skuse, Douglas, Bishop and Bru. We have some very good midfielders in our squad now including the 4 above. Oar, AMN, Fraser, Parr, Mcdonnell, Connolly are all capable players. Stewart and Henshall could come in if desperate. Even Varney and Mcgoldrick can drop back into an attacking midfield role. We do have more than enough players in this position.

Coke reminds me of Amir Karic. Similar type of player.

Except Karic was bought as a left back when Hreiddarrson was sold. Money was utilised on Karic and Ulrich Le Pen. I'd say Coke is better than either of them. He puts in good effort and tries hard to succeed.

Carsey

A 75% fit Hyam is not better than Bru,Douglas,Skuse etc.
Wonder how many posters are still here from the Vardy story days.

Its worth looking at the Vardy story. Love the comment on the end from RoyKeanesDog.

Hyam is a MM type of player, hard in the tackle and exceptional work rate off the ball.

If he gets fit and finds a bit of form, he'll be back in Mick's plans. Worth remembering how old he is, he's been around so long, we expect more from him than is possibly fair.

He'l be back at some point.

Message for aspiring youngsters joining our academy: Work your nuts off, be on the verge of the first team, then we'll probably sign a 37 year old carthorse and you'll be loaned out to Rotherham. Good ethos that!

Surely Giles Coke, who is incredibly poor should be sent somewhere, full time, well away. He may be a very nice fella, but players like that are not going to do us any favours short or long term.
