Dyer: I Want to Be Town Boss
Thursday, 3rd Dec 2015 21:27

Former Blue Kieron Dyer has revealed that he’d like to be Town manager in five years’ time on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

“In five years’ time, I’d like to manage Ipswich Town, I'm a local boy, it's my local club,” the 36-year-old said as the campmates discussed their hopes for the next half-decade, adding, “Having to deal with 11 Kieron Dyers must be a nightmare and stuff, but Ipswich Town because I was there from 10, that would be the ultimate."

It’s not the first time Dyer, who was coaching Town’s U16s until Christmas last year, has declared his managerial ambitions.

Speaking to TWTD in 2013, the midfielder said he wanted to be a manager in the style of Pep Guardiola.

“That’s true!” he laughed. “I want to have a cool suit on exactly like him and just look cool like him on the touchline.”

Dyer is donating his entire fee from his appearance on the show to Ipswich-based charity The Jude Brady Foundation.

Why not. If he proves himself to be a good coach and he works his way up the ranks, then good luck to him. I'd love to have an ex itfc player as manager.

Maysixth - Why so negative or is that just your normal disposition?

He's learnt under Sir Bobby and George Burley so if he progresses with the youths why not promote him to assistant and then manager One Day !

On one level it's irrelevant if he's qualified to do it or not, the thing that does it for me is he's said that's what he WANTS to do, he obviously loves the club (we walked down Portman Road with him after the Ipswich / Norwich play off). He supports our club and wants to manage us, surely that means a great deal?!

Nice one Kieron! Refreshing to see that he hasn't forgotten his roots. Give him Mark Kennedy's job as U21 manager. Still not sure why he got that job in the first place.

Five years isn't realistic. Needs to manage and prove himself in the lower leagues first, but one day Kieron. One day.

Top guy. Left for Newcastle when I was playing for the yoofs, always had time for the youngsters and often came back to say hi. Since then he's put up a lot of his own cash to fund the academy, as has Titus. Good guys who want to give back to the club that gave them so much. I'm proud to see an Ipswich boy passionate about his roots, it's a shame more people aren't like him. Good luck to him.

Michael 1 - totally agree. Kennedy is a terrible choice for the u21's. Their results are Dyer ! See what I did there...I'll close the door on the way out!

He would spend pretty much all of the time in the physio room.

Headline day 1; "Dyer signs 5 year deal...."

Day 2; "Dyer out for the season with mystery injury"

The End.

I would love to see him come and manage one day, but to convince me that he is up to the job he should stop poncing about in that jungle and learn the trade in a proper managerial position. Like Jimmy Floyd and Teddy Sherringham and many before them, start managing in the lower leagues, non-league wouldn't matter as long as he was getting experience.

It's a Yes from me.
It's been said already but his heart is with us and that is a big plus. He also has plenty of football experience at the very top level.
Management skills can be leant given time and with the right people being around him.

MM will still be our manager in 10 years time, while we are playing in Europe year after year.. :-)

Growing up as a kid Kieron Dyer was my hero - balled my eyes out when he left the club!

Have alwasy thought one of the biggest strengths of this club, is the coaching staff from the kids up having so many ex-players - they understand the club the fans and the ideology - whether he'd be a good manager or not time will tell - but I'd love to see him back involved!

A bit off-topic but is Mark Kennedy actually a good coach? Years ago I used to watch the reserves quite frequently but haven't been in a position to do so.

Not sure how he got the job or if he is quite cultured in terms of his footballing outlook.

If by then Kieron Dyer has a promising track record in management I can see that might be a good idea.
