Parr Closing in On Move
Friday, 8th Jan 2016 16:15

TWTD understands that Blues full-back or midfielder Jonny Parr is closing in on his move to Norwegian club Strømsgodset.

As reported last Saturday, the Blues have been in talks with the Norwegian top flight side regarding the 27-year-old Norway international, who has been left out of the starting line-up for tomorrow’s FA Cup tie against Portsmouth, although we understand he was initially pencilled in to play.

In addition to Strømsgodset, other clubs in Norway and elsewhere in Europe have also shown interest in the Oslo-born defender or midfielder.

While understood to be happy at Town, Parr has had limited first team opportunities with the Blues this season, having started only three times for Town in the Championship.

Despite Josh Emmanuel having returned from his loan spell at Crawley, the Blues seem certain to bring in cover at full-back and manager Mick McCarthy may want his new addition lined up before Parr’s exit is confirmed.

Parr, whose Town contract is up in the summer, joined the Blues following his release by Crystal Palace in the summer of 2014 and has made 29 starts and 14 sub appearances, scoring three goals.

ArnieM ....... totally admire your dedication to the man and cause - but you cannot really deny his HOOFBall style - is his trademark.

As for some of the players you mention - HOOFBall cannot be played by them in their positions otherwise you know where the ball ends up ... !!!

Equally so, how often are these players played to the best of their capabilities - or indeed allowed to - because of the said 'style of play' ..... ???

Who was that wanting us to sign Johnny Williams? He must have shares in the company that sells treatment tables

Williams - great little player, but lightweight - and will always occupy the treatment table more often than not.

Not a sensible option for anyone really.

A lot of people have overlooked the fact he is choosing a club nearer to home, almost certainly with a hefty wage cut so that they can accommodate him. To me it seems he is unsettled not so much because of the lack of games, but about playing in England/abroad as a whole. Otherwise he would be looking for another club in England.

If this comes through, then Strømsgodset will have their deal of the decade.

Has there been a sinister hate campaign orchestrated by Mick McCarthy and his cohorts using dirty tricks? Are the Irish contingent a bunch of classroom bullies? Has Parry never quite proven his fitness and the club is being nice helping him find a new club whilst a fullback is lined up for the summer?

I have nothing against parr. In fact I think he's a decent player, but the best full back at the club? Not sure about that. Why u may ask? For 1, he's supposed to be a left back but IMO looks better at rb(where I have to add is where I'd play him), but is also always injured. And there's the biggest problem. U need to have a settled defence and u can't do that if a player is injured every couple of games. This, I think has gone against him.

I like Parr and would agree he should have played more.
But, like Bart, certain fans wear rose-tinted spectacles when assessing their abilities.
Players mysteriously become better the more they don't play.
If we're being honest, Parr is a reasonable Championship player, no more, and has a below-average fitness record.
He's probably on decent money, so maybe McCarthy wants to free that up for other additions.
I'm surprised he hasn't had more of a chance since Mings left but either something's gone on or his injury record has gone against him.

It's hard to deny that we are Hoofball specialists, but without it we would be in League 1 by now. MM has done brilliantly with this style of play, even if it is awful to watch at times. This is a results driven business. Would we prefer to be a passing team in the bottom 6?

That's probably not as silly a question as you think Guentchev. If the team was built on good football but floundering in the bottom 6, the foundations are laid and it's simply about investment and bringing in quality because good football always rises to the top. If you're playing a direct system and you bring in quality you'll either have to change the system to accommodate or risk losing out on some players because of the style of football. Direct football rarely succeeds or sustains itself for any period of time in the premier league.

Everyone wants success but there's honour and integrity to it as well. Our football integrity has definitely declined under Mick but our success has risen so it's an interesting debate.

Fulham have played good football and invested heavily over the past few years and haven't risen to the top.

Whilst it is sad that Parr is leaving some of the comments on here border on the delusional.

For me the most pertinent comment comes from Abujablue who rightly points out the proposed destination as being his home country and the reduction in income that will follow. [But then wasn't Delaney off to USA once upon a time?]

Football is a results business - if Parr was better in the MM world than Chambers he'd be playing week in week out. If it'd take 2 or 3 other player changes to accommodate him over Chambers would that upset the balance of MM's team?

Given that we were barrelling headlong into 3rd tier of English Football when MM arrived and now we dare to dream of play offs [or higher!] I think gives him licence to do it his way.

Good luck JP wherever your future is and thanks for your service.

I realise this might be a bit controversial but I have come to the conclusion that McCarthy is a lot like Keane in that both make strange decisions that supporters cannot understand both are arrogant and opinionated the difference being McCarthy smiles whereas Keane used to snarl.
Unless there has been a major attitude problem with Parr it makes no sense at all not playing him when we have so clearly been vulnerable not having a proper fullback on the pitch over the past 2 seasons.
There are many other similar issues with other players and positions that leave many supporters baffled and whilst no one would expect a manager to tell all most supporters have been watching the game long enough to know when something isn't working or a player isn't comfortable and there is need for change.
Most teams have ever present players who the manager seems to rely on but no one should be un- droppable and managers who plough on with the same players and tactics when they are not achieving the necessary result are doing a disservice to supporters and club.
The longer a manager is in place the more the club will become like him and personally I don't want Ipswich Town to be known only for being a strong physical hard working team. It would be nice to hear someone say we play good attacking football keeping possession and moving the ball quickly through midfield.
I will be at Portman Road long after McCarthy has been and gone and can only hope the next manager is more cultured.

One small difference between Keane and McCarthy.
Results.
Neither play the beautiful game though.

A victim of McCarthy's closed door selection policy. A real shame because he's a much better player than Knudsen.

Tractorshark - My mate's who are season ticket holders at Fulham reckon it's some of the worst football they've seen down there in 18 years so not sure the foundations are that of good football. My point was that the right investment on top of a good football base will see you to improved success rather than the other way around.

I think you naturally play better football with better players. But that takes serious investment.
Do you think McCarthy would still play long ball if we had Messi, Ronaldo and Iniesta in the side?
His Wolves team was pretty exciting with the two wingers.
Bottom line is we have perhaps two or three players who could make it in the Prem, the rest are hard-working, solid Championship players.
It ain't always pretty but he's never been given proper investment to bring in a better calibre of footballer.
Bournemouth and Brighton have played good football but they've spent huge sums both in fees and wages.
By the same token Leicester got promoted, spending loads, without being pretty and it seems Middlesbrough might achieve the same this season - and they're fairly attritional.
