Lloyd Dyer to Join Town
Monday, 8th Feb 2016 10:26

TWTD understands that former Watford, Leicester, West Brom and Millwall winger Lloyd Dyer will join the Blues on a deal to the end of the season. The 33-year-old’s contract at Vicarage Road was terminated by mutual consent last week.

Birmingham-born Dyer began his career at the Hawthorns and spent time out on loan at Kidderminster, Coventry and QPR before signing for the Lions in 2006.

He moved on to the MK Dons for two seasons before signing for Leicester in 2008 and helping them to the 2013/14 Championship title.

The 5ft 8in tall wideman moved on to Watford that summer, signing a three-year deal, but made only six starts and 10 sub appearances for the Hornets last season, scoring three goals.

In January last year he went out on loan to Birmingham, where he made eight starts and 11 sub appearances and netted once. Having not been involved at all this season he left Vicarage Road last week.

"We understand Dyer will put pen to paper on a deal to the end of the season on Tuesday.

Blues boss Mick McCarthy was looking for an additional left-sided winger even before Ryan Fraser suffered his hamstring injury during Saturday's 1-0 defeat at QPR with Tommy Oar having left Portman Road at his own request last month.

Former Arsenal and Charlton man Jerome Thomas spent a week training at Playford Road but wasn't offered terms. Town are likely to announce how long Fraser will be out of action today.

I guess my memory is not so good as others but I guess he's must still be preaty quick as I hear Birmingham are spitting feathers that we nipped in so quick before they could sign him on a permanent contract.

Cornishblu why would we get ambitious young players, if we did we would have a good shot at the premier league then MM would be out of a job, so bobbing along just above halfway with the occasional flirtation with the playoffs is where we will stay until MM is gone in 2018.

what an exciting signing this is.
33 year old who never really did much in the game.
lets get him in the squad to play a few mins here and there.
pathetic, uninspiring and massively lacking in ambition.
has MM forgot that you need creativity and flair players and a little bit of quality as opposed to just hard work and ball sloggers.
p1ssed off

Not a bad signing if replacement for Tommy Oar, but still need another replacement for Fraser. Incidentally, what's happening with injuries over the last couple of years, symptom of the way we play and Championshion slog? Lengthy absences - Didz(three times), Teddy, Hyam, Fraser(now twice), Murphy, Douglas to a lesser extent etc. Going to be an even bigger ask to get promotion now. Really should be building a team to get to the Prem and stay there. Clear out the squad in the summer and start involving done of the youngsters. They need to be tested, not just in the FA Cup but ad part of the first team squad. Also 2/3 quality signings and we could be on our way. Hmmmm.

Jeeze, what do you lot expect in the loan window? We cant affotd to splash the cash in a Jan window, when players, agents and Clubs can ask what they like.

There seems to be an astounding lack of understanding about how Clubs like ours, in our situation actually have to operate in the game. Like it or not ( and , I like you , dont like it either), ha e to accept this is what MM has to work with. He tookmthe job on in the FULL kmowledge of what it was going to be like, and hes never said anything other than that.

Oh dear. Another past his best, cheap option. Nowhere near good enough now to be a replacement for Fraser. Unlikely to be match fit. Poor spell on loan at Birmingham last year. Evans really is taking the fans for mugs. Significant funds should have been freed up for quality additions last week. Not panic buys for sub standard players now we have a couple of injuries. Still, no doubt this will fit MMs budget ... Or lack of it. Underwhelming.

Anyone who still thinks we are aiming for the premier league needs to change their glasses

Seems as if he's wanted by no other Club - so we'll have him ...... as per normal.

Would like to think otherwise, but honestly cannot see him being anything other than another journeyman, grasping at straws seeing the rest of his career out.

Exactly!
Also look how Tottenham are struggling by playing their youngsters.........what they need is some experience!

Bloody hell. I guess you can't be too picky with loans and freebies but this is scraping the barrell a bit. Would've been chuffed if we'd signed him 5 years ago. Hopefully Fraser's injury will be better than first feared...

That'll send shockwaves thru the league! I can see the teams above us all moaning that we are strengthening while they sit still and watch

Who do people really think we would be able to get on a free at this time of year? All things considered, this is not a bad signing, although a premiership loan would be a good idea.
