Lloyd Dyer to Join Town
Monday, 8th Feb 2016 10:26

TWTD understands that former Watford, Leicester, West Brom and Millwall winger Lloyd Dyer will join the Blues on a deal to the end of the season. The 33-year-old’s contract at Vicarage Road was terminated by mutual consent last week.

Birmingham-born Dyer began his career at the Hawthorns and spent time out on loan at Kidderminster, Coventry and QPR before signing for the Lions in 2006.

He moved on to the MK Dons for two seasons before signing for Leicester in 2008 and helping them to the 2013/14 Championship title.

The 5ft 8in tall wideman moved on to Watford that summer, signing a three-year deal, but made only six starts and 10 sub appearances for the Hornets last season, scoring three goals.

In January last year he went out on loan to Birmingham, where he made eight starts and 11 sub appearances and netted once. Having not been involved at all this season he left Vicarage Road last week.

"We understand Dyer will put pen to paper on a deal to the end of the season on Tuesday.

Blues boss Mick McCarthy was looking for an additional left-sided winger even before Ryan Fraser suffered his hamstring injury during Saturday's 1-0 defeat at QPR with Tommy Oar having left Portman Road at his own request last month.

Former Arsenal and Charlton man Jerome Thomas spent a week training at Playford Road but wasn't offered terms. Town are likely to announce how long Fraser will be out of action today.

This maybe the only type of deal we can do right now because of the finances, however read what Shane Supple said about players and ambitions at Ipswich. Players of a certain age not wanting promotion and knowing they would be cast aside if we went up!

I've nothing against Lloyd but he is 33, we need to be looking for hungry up and coming youngsters, who want to go up with Town and become Premier League players, I fear this is not team building for the future, just another sticking plaster until the end of the season.

Appears to of lost his way recently.....and as per normal McCarthy will make him jump through hoops, and if that doesn't work, as per normal, he'll send him packing! That's the reality of supporting Ipswich Town presently! Past blaming whoever, the upside is McCarthy remains to keep us competitive!

Well Mr McCarthy said he had a very strong squad well let's see how he copes with this .signing a 33 year old is not the answer McCarthy has made himself look an idiot by what has happened since fielding a terrible side against Portsmouth instead of treating the FA cup with respect it deserves.
The man is an idiot or just a mouth piece for Evans

I wouldn't say he has lost his way recently ? Played the full season for Leicester when they won the title and played over half the season in the championship last year part of that for another promoted team .
This is nowhere near the standard of Thomas who hadn't played for years , think he may prove a useful addition , certainly going to let him have a chance before criticising

very underwhelming.

Nothing to get excited about.

Yes he's getting on a bit, but the window is closed - we can't spend the Mings money now!!

I remember a couple of years ago when he destroyed us with Leicester, a couple of performances like that and he'll be well worth the chance.

Or maybe he'll be a good luck charm - I mean :
2013-14 Leicester - Promoted
2014-15 Watford - Promoted

My Leicester loving mate is a fan, reckons even at 33 he has pace to worry defenders, promoted with the Foxes, Promoted with the Hornets so must have something.

Certainly every addition of FIFA that hes ever played has involved an early move for LD to add pace and attack.

At the end of the day hes cover, he has to do a job when called upon. I quite like this as a short term option

Beattiesballbag-Love your first post, when things get like this we gotta have a sense of humour.
Arnie M.This signing has nothing to do with the loan window as he is a short term signing of a player without a club, just like Kevin Foley & Jerome Thomas who was not deemed good enough even by our low standards.

Things seem to be going from bad to worse with transfer policy as now all we seem to be able to afford is players who are free agents and are therefor desperate for a club and cheap.

Other managers have brought players through from youth team;but despite utterances by Milne about having half the players from youth team, all McCarthy has managed is one player in three and a half years;and he is injured most of the time. This doesn't include Mings who was purchased from Chippenham.

This is becoming like Jewells reign where we had lots of loans of players who are past their best, and if MIck gets us promoted with this policy, then he is a better Manager than I think, and better than most.

Still its only a bottom club this Saturday;so even with this squad should stand a chance of winning.

The usual meltdown on here and we've not even signed the lad yet! Apparently he's bottom of the barrel, useless etc. Seem to recall the exact same reaction to Hunt last season along with Varney, who did well LAST season at least until injury.

Wood and Fryers were both raved about and we " showed ambition " etc - well neither of them did sod all of note for us and would have cost a lot interms of wages so I'll back Mick over some illogical comments.

Two things for me though - at 33, age does tie in with pace, so does he still have it. Also, he's not played this season so that's another concern otherwise lets see what you've got Lloyd.

I think he'll prove to be more than a decent signing - rather have him than our other wide options, now we're left with sicknote Toure / Niles.

At least this means we don't have Jay Tabb LM any time soon!

Are we likely to get another in too?

I was actually quite pleased when we signed him 2 years ago as he was a proven Championship winger...

Trouble was he quite clearly fell out with Sannino very quickly and very publicly criticised him after scoring a goal at Rotherham.

I think the issues was he got guaranteed games with us but then we started the season with 3-5-2 and Dyer was left on the bench.

Sure he will do well for you guys.

Good luck.

Just need that creative central midfielder now Mick, I think Gazza is kicking his heals and would fit into our new club policy of signing players over 30! Where are we heading, scratching my head here. Reminds me of Paul Jewell purchases towards the end of his tenure. No hungry talented lower league players around?

Good player or he was anyway!
Still has a couple of good seasons in him & think he will do well for us if he gets some game time.
I was there when he ran our defence ragged when Leicester beat us 6.0.
Let's hope he does it for us, welcome aboard Lloyd.

Welcome to ITFC Lloyd. Hope it works out but at 33 this is very much a short term solution. Mick seems to have a knack for picking up freebies, players out of contract are generally out of contract for a reason....

I remember him ripping us to shreds for Leicester on a couple of occasions. If he can find that form he will be an excellent addition.
Is worth the risk although it does seem like a bit of a Jewell signing in the way that it's someone who used to be good!
Let's hope he still is good!

Can someone remind me of Murphy's age last season when he got 27 goals?
If he's properly fit there is no reason why he should have lost too much pace and maybe the fact that he hasn't played this season and obviously wants to play could mean that when other players are beginning to feel not quite 100% having slogged through the Christmas/New Year period he'll be as fresh as the proverbial daisy. At any rate he's got bags of experience playing in Championship promotion chasing sides. Could be a very useful signing.

What's the difference between itfc and dads army answer . Nothing they are both a bunch of freebies loanees and old has beens the only slight difference is dads army is meant to be seen as comedy itfc should be seen as serious promotion candidates . No change that not a slight difference itfc promotion candidates is also a comedy very sad for a great club come on ME put up some serious cash because on current form you are also a comedy.
