Town Submit Plans for 3G Pitch
Tuesday, 16th Feb 2016 10:34

Town have made a planning application for a “UEFA standard 2* 3G artificial surface pitch” at their Playford Road training ground.

The proposed new pitch would be surrounded by five-metre stop netting on all four sides and illuminated by floodlights.

It’s understood that an artificial pitch is a requirement for all academies at Category Two and above. The application can be found on Suffolk Coastal District Council’s website here.

Wow, we are so cutting edge. The boys football club I coach for had a floodlit one installed 3 years ago. AND we pass the ball better! (JOKES)

I think the type of pitch planned is what is required for Cat 1, a 1* pitch (which we don't have anyway...) is sufficient for Cat 2.

Heard same thing re questions over it being possibly cancer-causing, OwainG1992. Basically it's chopped up car tyres, the constituents of which include all sorts of known carcinogenic chemicals. Small particles can then be breathed in, or rubbed into the bloodstream via small grazes, cuts etc. Wish there was an alternative.

Is the 5 metre high netting there to stop the hoofing going out of grounds

Think the ball would be outside the pitch more than inside if MM was coaching.

3G artificial pitch - interesting, just a shame the ball won't be on it.

Sounds like reasonable long term thinking to me, but I'm sure the numerous short termism thinkers on this site will disagree.

I'm surprised we didn't actually have one, nearly every school has one, and nearly every military base! I thought 4G was the way forward, the nearest thing to grass?

I hope it's not carcinogenic... I play on a 3G pitch several times a week. Its a pretty good surface to play on actually, but you do end up grazing your knees a lot if you go in for sliding tackles. Plus its a bit harder than grass and mud, so end up a bit bruised sometimes.

The report on Sky Sports News suggested that the Carcinogenic Issues are not the case in Europe because we have more stringent methods for disposal of car types

Cancer scare is only in US because their "tires" are made from a different compound, but anyway who eats plastic grass?

Can we get a new sort of sky/air system to play football in? If we could somehow reduce the drag that 'normal' air imparts on the ball then there is every chance we could kick it higher/further.

Very little chance of that wearing out with the type of football we play, clearly the ball will be in the air most of the time

thats it then ,Magilton wont be returning, you cant grow Magic mushrooms on artificial turf.Reckon there will be increase in injuries now ...so and so ''out for two weeks with carpet burns'' . Seriously ,is this going to make a scrap of difference, we dont use academy players .
