Morphew to Return for Trial at the End of the Month
Wednesday, 17th Feb 2016 16:41

Needham Market's Keiran Morphew is expected to return to Town for his trial at the end of the month, a groin injury having prevented the versatile 22-year-old from linking up with the Blues last week.

Morphew impressed boss Mick McCarthy while playing at centre-half for Town’s U21s in the 1-0 victory over QPR a fortnight ago and was invited to return the following Monday to spend a week training with the Blues first team.

However, two days before the trial was due to start the defender or midfielder suffered a groin injury while in action with Needham in a Ryman League Premier Division fixture at Lewes.

Since then Morphew, who previously had a spell on trial with the Blues back in 2013, has been undergoing his rehab at Playford Road with the Town physios as well as with Needham and he is set for a return to action when the Marketmen take on Kingstonian at home in 10 days’ time.

If he comes through that game OK he is likely to spend the following week with the Blues.

We badly need something good to come from the scouts and the academy. Hasn't been this bad since the late 1980s and even then Kiwomya, Dalian Atkinson and the Gregorys came through. We need something, anything to smile about. I am Marcus Evans, king if kings. Look upon my works ye mighty and despair.

I too hope something good comes out of this but if this lad has real aspirations of playing pro football he would do well to steer clear of Ipswich until McCarthy is gone. We have other centre backs and midfield players who probably thought they would have had a chance by now but can't get in ahead of the favourites.
Please God things change but don't hold your breath.

Good luck with your trial Keiran and welcome to the club(if all goes well) I hope you prove to be a good addition,
Just a general question to all on the site do you have problems with freezing and pop ups(one of which was a nasty virus!!) it has taken me over 1/2 hour to type the above and it is peeing me off

As we've not had any other similar reports I would guess it's a local issue. Try clearing your cache and seeing whether that makes a difference, maybe running a virus scan.

It's a big step up but let's hope he earns a deal. We could really do with some quality younger players at the club.

Is it just me feeling underwelmed by the hype surrounding this player. I'm excited for him and I wish him well but this is exactly what we were fed by the club on the numerous players that have been signed so far for defensive roles but as carsey says and rightly so, none of them have made it or indeed been given a chance. It is always one for the future but their future never comes at ITFC. They are farmed out on loan to get experience and then never quite good enough. I too think if we signed John Terry he would not get a look in defence. The way we recruit needs a bl**dy good shake up, if we are expected to support a team made up of second grade players then let us pay what lower league supporters pay at the gate. Stop ripping supporters off. The U21 players and coaching staff are hardly ripping up tree's are they? Beaten by Colchester U21's a short time ago. Colchester who's 1st team look like being relegated from League 1.

Not sure why all the negatives to my post it's a point of view that no one can really disagree with. The Polish lad must have thought he would be in with a shout but apart from the cup and a couple of late appearances from the bench nothing and it's not like we are solid in defence. If we're saying he's not good enough why sign him.

This lad deserves his chance and I hope he gets it. On the wider picture, this club has to have some serious investment in younger players this summer otherwise we can forget seeing itfc anywhere near the top 6 of the championship for many seasons to come.

therein61.Yes I have also been having probs with typing on his website.
Phil-not sure whether it is a local problem as you put it.I live in Clacton and have high level of security on PC;but will run scan as you suggest.Think it is something to do with adverts?

Carsey agree with you,and Muccletonjoe,I have also mentioned this recently;pointing out that in 3 1/2 years Mr McCarthy hasn't BROUGHT A SINGLE PLAYER THROUGH FROM YOUTHS TO PLAY REGULARLY IN FIRST TEAM.Yes Teddy Bishop was last season;but because of shin splints and other assorted injuries hasn't featured this term. The only two currently playing is our longest serving player Tommy Smith(Joe Royle or Jim Magilton),and Luke Hyam(Roy Keane?).Both Cressey (Paul Jewell) and Tyrone Mings(MM)were purchased from Tranmere Rovers and Chippenham Town respectivey, the latter I believe on recommendation of Russell Osman who I don't think is with club now.

Furthermore Mick has intimated that he wont be doing so,whilst have a chance of playoffs!

I almost (almost) wish that Mick didn't have the success that he did in finding Tyrone Mings. Now it seems that Marcus expects Mick to find other diamonds in the rough, when the reality is that Mick might have hit a million-to-one shot.
