Town Increase Season Ticket Prices
Friday, 4th Mar 2016 09:41

Town have announced an increase in season ticket prices for the 2016/17 campaign, the third rise in three years.

If purchased before the early bird deadline of midday on April 11th, a lower tier seat going up from this year’s price of £411 to £417. Last year most prices rose by three per cent.

Overall, 97 per cent of season ticket holders will pay around 1.5 per cent more for their seats with fans in X Block, Y Block and D Block facing a larger increase.

As previously, any supporter purchasing a season ticket before the early bird deadline won’t pay any more for their seat if Town are promoted to the Premier League for the 2016/17 campaign, while season ticket holders will get a free Premier League season ticket for 2017/18 if the Blues have gone up by then and they are an Academy Friend - £10 per month - for both 2016/17 and 2017/18.

The Blues are again running their 12-month zero per cent interest direct debit payment scheme.

Meanwhile, Town have scrapped the grading of matchday tickets with adult prices set at £27.50 for lower tiers for all home league matches if tickets are purchased in advance.

The club are continuing with their under-11 season ticket priced at £10 for a ninth season, while season ticket holders are set benefit from a new link-up with local and national companies providing discounts on goods and services.

“Attracting youngsters to come to Portman Road and watch Ipswich Town play remains one of our priorities and we have seen an increase in both our Junior Blues membership and those under-11s and under-16s attending games,” Blues managing director Ian Milne told the club site.

“We are continually looking to increase our matchday activities for families in the Co-op Stand and the feedback from supporters for this initiative has been very positive.

“We have retained the £10 season ticket for under-11s and while there is a small increase for adult season tickets, in line with the retail price index, we feel at just over £18 a game, it represents a competitive price.

“We have listened to supporters who wanted us to simplify our matchday pricing and acted on that. We have been trialing one price this season and it will be implemented for 2016/17 with the price falling in line with what supporters have being paying this year.”

More details can be found on the club site here, while a full list of season ticket and matchday pricing can be found here.

Whilst the increase is minimal I tend to agree that in PR terms a nil increase would have been well received given the relatively poor entertainment. However, the club are right to grow the U11 support as the evidence points to the fact that attending becomes a habit. Concessions at age 60 are also good ( 65 at some clubs ), abandoning the pricing strategy is good and having occasional promotion for selected matches is also good. Hiking the price for walk ups is not so good. On balance for a town that is not much bigger than Colchester, the club is well supported and gets gates well above many city clubs like Bristol.

Football the working man's game. Ha not been that for years and all they're doing is alienating the last few that do go. Can't see the prawn sandwich brigade filling the ground.

If you don't agree with the price rise then don't buy a ticket next season.

I think the major factor is not that it is a relatively small increase in cost it is the big fact that we have the most expensive season tickets in the whole of the division as an average in the first place ?
Or the fact every season before the season tickets go on sale we are told money will be available for signings but no transfer fees are paid out only received .
I will not be renewing any of my season tickets as my children no longer want to watch what is being served up at Portman Road and will pay as I watch as the enjoyment for going every game is long gone at present .

With the currents grumblings and the games I have watched at PR this year the entertainment value and atmosphere has definitely gone down.... its a small increase on the scheme of things but just seems a bit of a miscalculation by the powers to be.

Scrapping the nonsensical grading system is a good move. I go to watch Town, not the opposition. However, the cost of a match day ticket is still too high given the (lack of) quality of football, our position in the second tier of English football and the overall prosperity of the Ipswich area. Keeping the season ticket holders happy is fine but we need 10k match day ticket attenders to get anywhere near filling the ground. The 'product' on offer just isn't good value at a minimum of £27.50.

Disgusting. The club will spout the usual spin that Evans puts in money to run the club. But as a supporter I would expect him to do this. prices should reflect the product on offer and as one of the highest prices in the championship, the product is poor and doesn't reflect. This is another example of Evans taking us for mugs. The quality of football and entertainment is league one at best, as is the transfer budget / quality of signing. The prices are too high. I've stated before but Evans shops at the 99p Store, but sells his product at John Lewis prices. It's shocking.this season we sold our best player in Mings, saved thousands on players like Taylor leaving, but brought in the likes of Coke and Toure. January saw a real lack of ambition and remarkably a weaker squad with two poor players signed with four leaving - one for a fee. I'm sorry but any rise was unjustifiable. Mark me down as much as you like but I refuse to give Evans another penny of my money. I won't be renewing. Disgusted.

I am in favour in principle of scrapping the match day ticket price bands, but am I not right in thinking there have been many more Band C (cheap) games than Band A (expensive) games over recent seasons? So by making everything Band B, is that not in reality a fairly large price increase overall given we lose the cheap Band C matches?

Inflation (CPI) is 0.3%. I don't see the justification for a 1.5% season ticket rise therefore, especially given the perceived lack of investment in the team as we look mainly to free transfers and loans.

An insignificant price rise, but at a time where many are contemplating not renewing due to the quality of football being served up, a price increase may well be the straw that broke the camels back.

Just another sign that our club is out of touch with the will of the supporters.

Truckerblue's comment that it is no longer a working mans game just shows that some supporters are stuck in a time warp. Thankfully the club has been good at attracting women and U11's which we should be proud about. Other than a certain part of the BR stand, the ground is populated by many who would not share the view of Truckerblue.

The sale of Mings balanced the books for 1 season. No business can spend what they have not got indefinitely. I would have thought that you would have called for a £100 increase to fund the £1,000,000 player you so desperately crave.

I think you have over reacted but it is, of course, your choice to make.

Nothing to do with prices but shall not be renewing unless club comes out with a believable statement of where we are looking to go and how as at the moment its nowhere with no sign of anything different happening only feeling I get from the club now is emptiness shame first game in75 season ticket holder since all seater stadium but enough is enough

Agree 100% with tractorboyjim's comments.

Scrapping grading is an overdue but nevertheless very welcome move. I believe £25 rather than £27.50 would be fair for lower tiers - in fact IMO it shouldn't be more than £25 for upper tiers either. I live near MK Dons who charge £25 for entire stadium except sections on halfway line. Large, comfortable padded seats with lots of legroom, in state of the art stadium, and an attractive style of football (even if struggling a bit with the step up to C'ship this year).

I think the lack of "uproar "reported by the supporters club this morning can be put down to the fact many season ticket holders have already made the decision not to renew based on the dross being played under the current coaching staff, & the total lack of ambition being shown by the owner !

@bert.
It's not being stuck in a time warp at all. If you're happy to go pay £27.50 a time to watch the drivel that's being served up then fair play to you. The rise in season ticket sales for this season was because of some optimism that we may actually do something this season. Alas we've been found out and I'd put a tenner against a dog biscuit that they'll not sell anywhere near as many for next season. I'd say well struggle to get 16,000 at games next season. Would like to be wrong but can't see it .

After the negative boring football on offer this season and the total lack of ambition shown by the club, this is a massive own goal. After 15 years, I had already decided not to renew my season tickets.

So much complaining about the club but not one single comment about the outrageous amount of money given in salaries to the players.

If a player gets £8K a week that's £416,000 a year!!

So you demand we pay more if fees & wages, all of which you want one man to pay. i.e. Marcus Evans

When you're asked to contribute £6 to the cause it's a disgrace????

I think you should focus your wrath elsewhere.

I am concerned that the club has called this one wrong. There is a tremendous amount of despondency amongst supporters at the moment and any increase could be the catalyst for many to walk away. Counter productive.

butleymallard added 13:28 - Mar 4
I think the biggest issue here is £27.50 flat cost for all games. That is the current Grade A price. Considering there was a grading of three tiers, what a surprise the highest price one has been selected. Season tickets are not viable for some due to work commitments or other reasons (for me, it's a time thing, I have a young family), so for the 13 or so games a season I make, it will cost me near on £360. It's a clever move by the number boffins, certainly makes the season ticket price per game, and small rise, much more attractive

Yes, I agree with all the disgruntled supporters on here not wanting to renew their season tickets due to the terrible football we play and the lack of signings,BUT,can you all really turn your backs on the club you Love and have supported ,some of you for a very long time just like myself.I have thought long and hard about this, but feel that in the interests of the club I Love I will be renewing for next season.MM did a great job when he came to the club after the damage left by PJ and RK.But I feel the club is not progressing as it should and I don't accept the fact that the owner cannot put his hand in his pocket to bring in a better class of player. These are ONLY my personal views,so please don't knock me for that because I will still be buying my season ticket for next season, and I shall be driving to Bolton next Tuesday.COYB.

essexboy Spot on. Good points from both sides. I don't agree with the price rise but I would never turn my back on the club I love and thats ITFC! If some don't renew thats there choice, but they will be back if we have a good season. Be loyal and show your support.

It's not the increase but the lack of investment in the club which stop me renewing. I'm disappointed that the money gained from Cresswell & Mings has been wasted on the likes of Coke, Digby. Think back to Dwyer & the signings of mcgreal etc

I think there comes a tipping point for a lot of fans and I think I just found mine. I was debating whether to renew mine and my son's season tickets and keep doing the 250 mile round trip and that's just decided it! There are many more fun things to do than watch Ipswich play, as most opposition managers seem to want to say after playing us! I'm not fickle but I just can't justify the time and money for the terrible football. Football is about dreams but any dreams I've had have long been crushed by the workmanlike performances and the tedious drivel from the manager.

I agree with you, almost. I think our owner could argue that he has speculated enough and a spell of sensible financial management is required going forward. I understand that many will not agree with that though and it's a debate that will go on and on.

I will be driving to Bolton next Tuesday also and to Cardiff on the following Saturday in what looks like the most challenging week of the season travel wise. Not complaining though, I love it! COYB
